They just want their loser scum bag gang friends to stay gang bangin. How dare the state appoint judges that will punish gang violence properly!!
Boo hoo judges should not be elected.
Oh, yeah, walking, that’ll get ‘er done.
I am one of Chowke's "dope boys" and I approve this message. Right?
I’m no law school grad or anything, but isn’t it “en masse” as in a collective group whereas “in mass” refers to weight? Is Latin the official language of “Plantation politics” thus requiring the misuse of an age-old phrase?
Asking for a friend.
It's just a damn shame our State capital, our main medical facilities and some very good and important old schools are located in Jackson. Otherwise it could just be abandoned completely for the lost cause that it is.
This is Kim with the ACLU of Mississippi. HB 1020 would create a new State Controlled District that takes voting, political power, and tax dollars away from the majority Black citizens of Jackson. It would expand the Capitol police and transfer power to unelected judges and prosecutors, who wouldn't be held accountable by Jackson voters.
Please call Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn today at 601-359-3300
and ask him to oppose HB 1020.
When you reach the receptionist or voicemail, you'll have to remember to do two things:
☝🏾 Tell them you want to leave a message and give them your name and address.
✌🏾 Tell them to oppose HB 1020.
Once again, call 601-359-3300 and tell them your name and address and tell them to oppose HB 1020.
Reply STOP to End
I doubt the voters in Ridgeland oppose the legislation.
And not a peep from the media about the racist language used. But if it were the other way around….
"Run by white officials"
Maaaaaaaan if the tables were turned, she'd be screaming bloody murder
I guess proofreading the release would have been too much to ask?
They lost me at “in mass”. The correct term is “en mass”. You’d think with all the attorneys and Ivy League educations someone would have caught that.
At least she's engaged in the community she's truly g to represent.
Their complaints, along with the Judges of Hinds County, seem to totally ignore that for the past several years - six or seven, maybe more - the Chief Justice of the Sumpreme Court has been appointing "special judges" to help clear the backed up docket of the Hinds County Judiciary. Granted, the dockets are backed up for a number of reasons; the failure of the judges to work a full eight hours a day, five days a week; the failure of the prosecutors to bring the cases; the attempt by defense lawyers to put off the trials for their guilty clients, hoping that they can be postponed until one of these appointed judges, like former Justice Dickenson will dismiss all the cases for the length of time that the case has been on the docket.
Hell, this goes back to the 2008 or so period, when the legislature - in a similar piece of legislation - created the Rocket Docket Judges for Hinds County. Again,to do the job of the Judges in Hinds County that weren't doing what they were being paid to do.
The Rocket Docket Judges were the same - appointed, not elected - and took the cases trying to clean up the backed up dockets in Hinds County.
BUT NOW, the Lumumba Mafia Family, wants to bitch. They want to stop justice from continuin in the Kush. And those that are elected to do justice are now bitching - ignoring that today there are not two, but FOUR, appointed Judges trying to clean up their dockets.
My opinion - ALL judges, everywhere - should be appointed, not elected. Justice is not the same as representation. Justice should be based on blindfolded individuals that don't make decisions based on politics but on the law. But today, we don't have that.
In the meantime - why not continue in Hinds County what hsa been the status quo for a decade and a half (at least since 2008, I can't remember beyond that point, and I don't care enough to Google it to see if it has been longer).
Yes, Ms. Lumumba, you might be the queen of the RNA and watching over the kingdom that your brother is acting King. But on this matter, you don't have control. And when you lose your special election to try to become a back-seater in the body where your voice will be equal to that of AOC - we won't care anymore. But for this issue, I'm for seeing some real justice in Hinds County. Judges that aren't looking to the aisles in their churches, the lines at the next election precinct, and don't give a damn about when the next qualifying deadline is
Yes, lets start the movement toward justice. Justice as the constitution promises us
Rep Blackmon of Madison county is a constant race baiter. Plus only the poor peoples group will show up as NE Jackson and Fondren area citizens are working and therefore they won’t participate bc they pay the damn taxes in the city. Sister Lumumba is a total fool and uses this as a way to get her face in media
You know. Why don’t they doo ok like the water bill proposal that people with more property value pay more in water rates… let’s apply this to city services too the people in ne Jackson get more police patrols and better services 😀 think she would riot?
Who has free time at 10am on a Tuesday?
I don’t think Public Enemy would be saying fight the power, if they saw Jackson. You have an entire mismanaged city looking for handouts and crime that’s out of control. When the “colonizers” come in and try to fix it they complain, scream racism, and other flashy words they love to throw around on tv and at gatherings for their voters.
Just remember this one thing, this is a game to them IYKYK.
The 'Scare Tactic' news release mentions the constitutional requirement for the election of Circuit and Chancery Judges. The bill she opposes has nothing to do with that. Those judges would continue to be elected as required by law.
Sadly, when she loses her race to become a legislator, she will indeed be elected a judge.
With “Kim from the ACLU” voicing action against the bill, you know it’s got to be something good in it for the rest of us.
Re: 8:45
STOP
These people want it their way all the time… sick of it. I pay alot of taxes in ne Jackson and I moved my medical clinic to highland colony recently but live in Jackson. I’m treated much better in ridgeland than Jackson.
it's just their money-making scheme. they don't really care. if they did, there would not be a need for a "capitol complex". the capitol complex is the result of the mayor and his "supporters" failure to be somewhat of a responsible citizenry.
I think the capitol complex area should form a new city. let them have "their" Jackson.
Whoever wrote this should sue the schools they attended. It was illiterate.
Leave it to the Mississippi legislature to find a way to gift-wrap a victory to the ACLU and NAACP. THIS IS CLEARLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Simply because the Hinds County Circuit Court is slow and lenient does not give pandering lawmakers license to create a new judicial district not in compliance with the clear requirements of the state constitution regarding the judiciary. It would be like creating an appointed unelected board of supervisors for a county experiencing fiscal problems. IT"S BEYOND UNCONSITUTIONAL, IT'S STUPID.
This bill is not the way.
@7:17am, I love that idea! I wish it would happen, but unfortunately it never will.
Let’s look at a bit of history:
Failed Jackson schools - State nearly takes over
Failed Jackson downtown policing and crime - State takes over
Failed Jackson water supply - State takes over
Failed Jackson judiciary- State taking over
Watch out Jackson, a few more examples if failure and you are going to end up with no charter.
The State is making a last ditch effort to save Jackson and we see who is against that. Crazy people who are too left to even be liberal.
If the Mayor’s team and sister really want to solve the crime problems in Jackson, all they have to do is go to the source!
It ain’t the people coming to their meetings/rally’s.
All we want is a safe city! Work together with all and make Jackson safe. Go out and talk to the parents of these troublemaking young men and women.
GO OUT and TALK TO THE PARENTS they are being left out of this equation.
If you really care! You are speaking to the wrong people.
If I were actually trying to fight the bills (which evidently that's not the purpose here), I could probably design better lobbying materials and hire better lobbyists to try to win over two Republican controlled and overwhelmingly white legislative bodies.
I saw Sista Rukia on the news this morning. She looked totally STONED or she has a problem with her eyes in that she cant open them.
Yo Rukia, how did you get through law school? Never, mind, I know.
It's "en masse," not "in mass."
Those folks in black robes on the MS Supreme Court are JUSTICES, not JUDGES.
I would never think that I would side with this group but I live in Madison county and do not like providing services to Jackson using my taxes. The people in Jackson should be responsible for Jackson and the people of the rest of Mississippi should not have to pay for Jackson’s issues.
Grateful for Sista Rukia for standing up against those racist, Jim Crow bigots trying to provide water and safe streets to the residents of Jackson.
Because marching solves everything. Marching does nothing. The people you're trying to gain the attention of are inside the building. Here's a hint: if your pipe is leaking, go the the pipe. Marches do nothing, but go ahead and march: it will give me something to laugh at on the evening news.
@8:45 PM: Thank you for the concise explanation. I will fully support HB1020 and encourage Speaker Gunn to do the same.
8:48 AM
A lot of these "parents" blame the suburbs.
I got a message from Kim too. Wonder what the reaction would be if the government finally backed off and let our hospitals build new facilities outside of the city of Jackson?
@8:04 They are not slow and lenient, they slap criminals on the wrist and let them go.
If Lumumba actually gave a damn about this city, this would not be happening. It's the best idea for us.
Maybe, just maybe we won't be #1 in crime anymore if they step in. The justices aren't doing their jobs.
What the Choks have said in the past 24 hours: "Plantation politics. Overseer. Run by white officials. Colonialist. Racist. Pay taxes to the king."
They are theatrical racists, never mind their absolute inability to manage the city. And that's using the most pleasant of terms.
She deserves every chance to be every bit as stupid as her brother!!
"It would be like creating an appointed unelected board of supervisors for a county experiencing fiscal problems." -8:04am
Um. They do. All the time. The State absolutely has the right and jurisdiction to "appoint an unelected board of supervisors". It happens every day. Examples like failing schools being taken over and a new board appointed, county/city municipal boards such as water and gas being reappointed, election boards which have become corrupt... pretty much anything where the State deems the municipality failed in its obligations to its constituents is fair game. In fact, it is actually very easy to do.
If you think anything you wrote in your rant is true, you should stay far away from law. The State has full sovereign jurisdictional power over all municipalities... not the other way around. If the legislature of the State decides to create a new "Capital District", it has the absolute right to do so. There is nothing Jackson's leadership can do about it. All the ACLU/NAACP screeching, organized marches, and poorly written/grammatically incorrect media blasts won't change that fact. Jackson is just plain run poorly. It can't provide basic necessities like water and safety to its residents. At some point, the grown ups have to take over. You can pretty much bet on this district being a done deal.
She's going to be so fun in the Legislature.
"This Bill seeks to create a state controlled territory inside off Jackson, run by white people."
Rukia, you are as racist as the people you accuse of being racist. Do two wrongs make a right ? Do you see that you too are racist ?
"There's discrimination in the judiciary when only the court where all 4 circuit judges are Black."
Huh ? I'm not sure this makes sense. But if you're saying that the Hind County might be racist because it only has Black Circuit Court judges, I might agree with you. Why are there no White Circuit judges ?
I know we NE Jackson types don't care if we are disenfranchised regarding judges, they don't work anyway, but seriously, can they do this, legally? I mean does not the constitution say we have to vote for these guys? Is this bill just a political ploy or can it actually work? I wonder.
@8:48 AM - Very valid recommendations, but it's PARENT, not PARENTS.
I'm voting for her just to keep this comedic gravy train rolling!
Y’all just wait until Rukia wins. This pissant blogger couldn’t get elected dog catcher in Puckett. But Rukia is starting her journey to the White House right here. History in the making!
I've never seen her opponents out in the community. She's crazy, but at least she's genuine.
@1:44, That is not true at all! Synarus is very involved with the community. Gibbs is the one that sits in the Ivory Tower and don't engage with the "common folk."
Being out in the community or even being genuine is not the primary skill set needed in Jackson.
You guys need intelligent, non-biased people who are ready to take action.
Not just hold candle light rallies.
But that wont factor in to the vote, so good luck.
I hope she "genuinely" cares and "genuinely" has a plan.
"Roughly 200 people" attended per WLBT. Meaning less than 200 people attended. What a joke.
Those ~200 people don't work. But to attend a rally that started at 10 AM they must have been paid or promised free stuff.
I wonder if they discussed what has happened to the city since Lumumba has been in office since 2017. A city in decline seems to have decided to step on the gas and hit rock bottom under his watch…….common sense would say that the incompetence and lack of leadership, let alone basic managerial duties, has brought us here……but, oh wait, that would require holding oneself accountable!……. If all they did was bitch about a bill in the legislature, and not discuss the state of JPS, violent crime, and broken homes, then that tells me this is a valid bill. One will know that Jackson is headed in the right direction when the black community tells Lumumba and his cronies, to sit down and shut up and let real people get to work
