The feds are paying a nice price for Jackson's new water bosses.. U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate approved an interim order that pays Jackson Water Interim Third Party Grand Poobah Ted Henifin $400,000 per year as part of a $3 million dollar operating budget that is funded by an EPA grant.
The last page of the order states:
Good grub if you can get it.
Kingfish note: The Street Committee says it was Council President Ashby Foote, III who pushed for the federal takeover of the billing system in negotiations. Thanks goodness.

That makes sense as it leaves some room for Chowke's finders fee.
Socrates just threw up his breakfast after reading this.
It probably took that salary to get someone to move to Jackson. He will have a huge job cleaning up the mess in Jackson. If he is going to get Jackson’s water system in order, he will have to do some unpopular things (make people pay their bills). I wonder how that will go over.
POTUS makes 400k /yr. Seems reasonable.
That is ok... in line with what you would expect for an executive at that level- with no perks and no long term commitment- assuming he does the job.
BTW- its a heck of lot less , than the recent hire by the council for the "operators" at $10,000 per week per person- (not the $40/hour as represented to council by the administration).
Now, JSU needs to step up to the plate and pay Prime what it takes to keep him in Jackson.
9:42, he won’t be moving to Jackson, he’s already heard about the crime issues and lack of garbage service in the bold new shitty.

"Huge job" is a massive understatement, in my opinion, for the absolute tsunami of drama about to unfold when he starts forcing everyone to pay their water bill or get cut off. I'll need a dumptruck of popcorn for this fiasco.
$400K also includes living and travel expenses - not unreasonable if he's working between Jackson and his home state. It's highly unlikely he'll be investing in local real estate! Maybe he can run the airport as well?
9:47 JSU doesn't have the money to pay professors competitive salaries, house it's students, or equip it's meager facilities, what bank can they rob to compete with Power 5 budgets if those programs want Coach Prime? Obviously he's not here for the money in the first place.
If there were a price tag on "staying in Jackson" even Ole Miss could not afford it!
He has a quite impressive resume,is personable and apolitical.
He deserves every penny and we are lucky he is willing to take this on.
Of course, it should be a hint to anyone who looked at Jackson's revenues that not a small problem was having the money to pay for well trained employees at the plant or at any level of administration.
The city gets starved for revenue, hasn't the people do respond to government grant writing and requests and then you wonder why things started falling apart.
Of all public services water is the easiest to manage since it normally makes money.
That ain't near enough for what he's about to walk into.
He has excellent credentials and is very qualified. But to be honest many people could fix this problem. The key is hiring qualified people and running the system correctly. I have confidence he can do that. The problem will be if he's not ALLOWED to do that. But if they will allow him to do his job, he can turn it around, as could many other leaders. Politicians are the one thing that always gets in the way.
Don’t you know Lumumba is pissed he can’t get his grubby hands on that.
Heck, that's less that football coaches make at many colleges and I bet he doesn't event get a platinum parachute when things go awry and unfortunately in this racist city it likely will. Good luck to him.
As 11:08 said, the key here is cooperation.
The lack of cooperation from customers paying for service, the lack of cooperation from city officials in bidding out to maintenances and repairs to reputable companies, the lack of cooperation in hiring employees based on talent rather than political favor has led to this shit show.
This guy and many others are intelligent enough to fix the problems.
Will Choke cooperate or send Sis to protest?
I suppose it depends on how much funds cooperate their way into the Lamumble's personal water allocation fund while this man works to fix the mess.
Maybe the only positive thing the mayor has done is to screw up managing the water system so badly it took outside intervention to provide some hope of getting a functional water system. As long as he was in charge needed change wasn’t going to happen.
Unfortunately, this gentleman has no experience in billing and accounting systems.
He is an engineer, not a pencil pusher like Bob Miller.
I don't care if he's making $4 million a year. Fix the damn water and clean up Jackson city leadership's mess. It's been going on too damn long. The children have made their mess. Now it's time for the grownups to come in and clean it up.
@11:03 AM
"Even got a little island of my very own..."
I really believe a collapse is around the corner because of how truly bankrupt this nation is...financially, and morally.
Money out of thin air can only last so long.
@1:57 PM, if you had read Appendix B you would have noticed that there is a line item covering accounting and financial advisor.
State has not been gone two weeks and the water is already messed up. Cheer competition with 2 working bathrooms in the entire convention center and hundreds of people.
I hear ppl say "what a $hit $how" all the time but I suppose that really was?
