Rankin-Madison District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, announced today that Dearron Rashad McMiller was sentenced to serve 20 years for Sexual Battery by Circuit Court Judge Brad Mills.
McMiller, 30, will have to serve every day of his sentence and have to register as sex offender for the rest of his life. On February 11, 2022, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint from the victim’s mother that McMiller had been sexually abusing her child. It was reported that the abuse took place at his home in Florence. The child disclosed McMiller performed multiple sexual acts on her over a period of two years. McMiller pled guilty on November 14, 2022. District Attorney Bramlett stated, “Our office will continue to zealously prosecute anyone who commits these horrible crimes against children in our district. Thank you to the Parker Children’s Advocacy Center and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Dearron Rashad McMiller. will serve the next 20 years in prison for the terrible things he did to an innocent child. More importantly, thanks to this brave victim, McMiller will not be able to assault other young children.”

You're right, 6:15. For some reason, we never see child porn or related cases languish in the system for a year or two.
Though this would carry a 5 to 30 years imprisonment and/or a fine of $5,000 to $10,000 for the first offense. Why 20, and is it day for day?
Yes to day for day, 12:56. And 20 years is in the middle of the 5-30 range so judges discretion?
5:20 - A small point, but I believe 17.5 is the midpoint between 5 and 20. If you're in a cell, staring up at the top bunk, 2.5 years is probably a long time.
