dead possum-
I like the plain one in the RFP.
How about backwards Mississippi quit issuing new tags every year. That is stupid and wasteful but probably lines some pockets and certainly creates busy work for some bureaucrats.
AND...
.Must accommodate dark tag cover to conceal numbers
.Must leave space so stickers, logos, mascots can be added
.Must include one NASCAR number and pride logo or flag
I remember when we went to 7 digits and the DOR explained that we would run out of availability if we didn't. I guess somebody showed them the math.
Well since we couldn’t get a mosquito state flag perhaps we can get a mosquito 🦟 license plate!
The current plate is ugly. Whoever designed it should be disqualified from submitting anything new.
@9:35 the seven digit plate was to avoid duplication with prior tag issues. The tags will alternate between six and seven digits on reissue years.
The problem is—who selects the design to be used? May be some great designs , but the selector(person or group) likes possums or mosquitoes or armadillos or Picasso and picks an awful something.
A limiting factor for the design is that the letters must be dark and therefore any part of the design that extends behind the letters must be pale and "washed out", in order to maintain sufficient contrast with dark letters/numbers.
The dark letters/numbers may be necessary to enable cameras to image them readably for law enforcement. White letters, with black outline, would permit a more striking, darker and larger design to extend under the letters/numbers.
The previous lighthouse design was readable and dark enough to see because that image was centered between the letters.
Can't wait to see the Phil Bryant (USM) inspired mustard (baby shit) color tag retired.
Just be like Delaware and have the same plates from the 50’s and just replace the stickers.
I'd like to see a Magnolia used again since it has been out of rotation for a while. An updated graphic of the flower or tree, but a Magnolia theme non the less.
I want a confederate flag, a garbage truck, with a bust of Tate Reeves and Chokwe Lumumba, the leaders of our state.
All kidding aside, Can we we just use the "black out" tags that have been being issued lately? I hate the "artwork" used on our tags. Plain and simple, not ugly yellow with a magnolia or even close to it.
@ "How about backwards Mississippi quit issuing new tags every year."
They don't. They issue a new sticker to go on the tag every year.
@ "A limiting factor for the design is that the letters must be dark"
You must not know that there is currently a white letter on black tag vanity option called the blackout tag.
Going to require "In God We Trust" somewhere on the plate like before? That was the sole reason for putting the state seal on the current tag.
@12:32. That's cool but the Contest requires to accommodate dark letters, hence my comment.
@9:22am
Yes, keep it black on white simple and possibly afford an extra pittance for a second plate at front, the better to identify criminals' vehicles and make theft of plates harder.
Oh no we mustn’t issue license plates that defeat the unconstitutional license plate scanners that law enforcement uses to facilitate their unconstitutional civil asset forfeiture!
How about a plate that says "Mississippi, last in every category," or "Mississippi, last but not least."
@3:06 PM
How about this-
Mississippi: A State of Ignorance
I like my specialty MDWF "duck" tag,
It's worth the extra thirty dollars.
I hope those tags remain an option.
So much more attractive than the generic piss yellow tag with an offset "Great Seal".
@3:00pm
Video evidence can condemn savage thugs around MS, even if from private cameras, where no forfeiture laws apply. Having a plate front and back increases chance of reading the car's ID.
That evidence is powerful for law enforcement timely resolution of crimes and for prosecutors for effective prosecution.
We have a history of choosing ugly politicians and ugly tags and now we have an ugly flag. If you really want to see ugly, take a look at that Delta State tag.
We could go with cardboard like so many of the Tennessee tags I'm seeing all over north Mississippi.
Whatever design is approved, stamp it out with just one, centered screw hole, making it easier to switch it from car to car.
I would like the old Luney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweetty Bird, Black Jack Shelach, Sylvester and Elmer Fudd. Or the Sesame Street characters since hell they were invented here.
@6:51
No thanks. I prefer to not give up my constitutional rights so that the police state can have an easier job. This is America, not Chairman Xi’s PRC.
I swear they made those swamp stain color tags so ugly, just to force us to pay for Special License Plates to avoid those abominations.
When I saved up and bought a new white suv, I caved and bought a collegiate tag because it felt disrespectful to put that standard Dipped In The Rez color tag on my shiny white ride.
Don't overthink it. Bring back the Home of the Blues tag. It is something that the state can be truly proud of. Then, there are also of the options for vanity tags.
How about a scene of the Pearl with raw sewage on the surface?
They say you must be a Mississippi resident.
Well hell, they let a girl from California design our state flag.
Look apt Tennessee’s new tag. Dark background with white letters. Very easy to read.
Picture of the Rez pump house with a hole in the roof.
Phil Bryant and his merry band of Christians tried to shove "God" down our throats in the last go around. And they succeeded. Of course, while he did it he also tried, successfully, to shove welfare dollars down to his wife's friends pockets. That fits.
Get "In God We Trust" off our plates. There are a large number of atheists in this state and we don't like this kind of crap forced on us. Might want to just change it to "In The Easter Bunny We Trust."
Religion has no role in what the state does. And we can all live happily with some other words on the plate.
2:02 PM on November 3rd. May I respectfully submit that you are living in the wrong state.
The lack of religion being exercised lately is the catalyst for rampant bloody murder.
@5:49 What "Constitutional right" do you think car tags violate? Cite us an Article and Clause.
@Bill Dees
Take some remedial reading comprehension courses.
License plate scanners and civil asset forfeiture are unconstitutional.
