Tate Calls Chokwe's Bluff

Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

After consultation with the leadership of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi State Department of Health, I am extending the State of Emergency regarding Jackson’s water system until November 22, 2022.

Since I first declared a State of Emergency on August 30, the state has invested nearly $13 million to prop up Jackson’s failing water system, distribute water, and restore clean running water to the residents of the city. Over this time, the state of Mississippi entered the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant, identified the rampant issues that existed due to years of neglect, and immediately began repair operations.

Jackson’s mayor has announced that the city will have a private operator in place by November 17, stating, “we anticipate having a contract in place by November 17th.” Recognizing this, I have decided to end the emergency on November 22, to allow for a five-day transition period between the state’s management team and the chosen private operator.

At that point, the State of Emergency must, by statute, end as the water system can be managed solely by local control, as has been insisted upon by the City of Jackson. The State of Emergency must only exist when a situation is beyond local control and the City of Jackson has demanded local control.

I am incredibly thankful for the continued role the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi State Department of Health have played to fix the many issues found within Jackson’s water system.

What a chess game. Tate just put Antar in check. Your move, mayor.

Thank you for taking my call. I'm a long time caller, and a first time listener. I do believe my question is pertinent to the article.

Seeing that the city has a bad reputation for not treating contractors well, what happens if no one takes the position? I'll hang up now and listen.

Where was this set of balls when Delbert and Gunn buried our state flag?

Travel the state alot on business. Nobody gives a shit about Jackson nor wants their community shafted so funding can be diverted to Jackson. Period.

I can’t stand my mayor mr LuDUMBa… but, how did Tate put Chokwe the crybaby in his place? I hope your right

In other words, Lumumba is going to have to come begging on hands and knees next time. And promise not to blame the people who are helping him. No way the city miraculously gets this house in order in less than a month.

Will Socrates be able to put together a competent and qualified team in time?

When can we call UMMC bluff and hire the administrators! Out of network with BC/BS and fighting with Medicaid.
Need new leadership!

Even if the city hires a contractor to run the plant, they won’t be there long because the city averages 6 months to pay invoices. Not everyone is so tolerant of long delays to get paid.

Kingfish, Just wanted to compliment you on your job guest hosting for Kim on the Kim Wade Show today, it was very interesting and informative.

I bet you're a redneck. And you are proud of it.

God help the innocents that can't afford to move out of Jackson.

This crap has got to stop. Please Mayor and Governor, we don't care if you like each other or not. We, the citizens of Jackson are still TAX PAYING MISSISSIPPIANS. Y'all need to act like GROWN MEN instead of playground bully's. I don't give a hoot about who did what, FIX THE DAMN WATER.

Anonymous said...

MEMA should pull out now!!! Why wait 3+ weeks? That would shut the Mayor’s mouth!

The Child Mayo wants everything to come thru Jackson,Ms City decisions Gov elves just set a date and respected that request by the Child Mayor I doubt the State of Ms will come back to help the people of Jackson with such an asinine Mayor mouthing off The people of Jackson are gonna be on their own after Nov 22nd I believe Suppose Socrates will be in charge?
They're getting what the Mayor demanded- nuf said We'll see how this goes-

1021 - the Governor (State) did fix the water. After the Mayor let it go to shit.

The Governor is not supposed to be in charge of municipal utilities - he doesn't have to "fix it" for any of the other cities/towns/counties/whatever in the state.

Why do you include him in your bambast? He (the state) has already stepped up and 'fixed the water' but the Mayor wants him out - Mayor says he is supposed to be in charge and is NOW ready to do so.

Can't complain about the Governor in this one - he has done what legally he is able to do. Mayor now says he can handle it (although he hasn't for the past several years) and today it is operating as it should. So, Governor steps away.

Wish the State would take it over - then we wouldn't have to put up with this incompetent Mayor. But since Chockwe says "hey man, step aside - I've got this" all the Gov can do is give him the rope. (And I would say, let him hand himself, but since now every time anyone uses such a phrase, they are called a racist, as if the only way that could apply is in a racial sense, I won't say it.)

10:25pm I’m confident history will look at this event and judge it was only the Mayor acting like a petulant child.

Anonymous said...

Looks like taxpaying Mississippians that don’t live in Jackson and already paying for their own water system still gonna be paying and subsiding Jackson residents water system to me.

Anonymous said...

Guess we’ll be dealing with this shit again in a few months. Tater, drill a state well and put all the government buildings on it, ala Andy. Let Jackson rot until the citizens finally wake the F up.

Anonymous said...

So, Jackson citizens get to suffer because of the pettiness of the Mayor and the Governor. Just wonderful. I know the Mayor doesn’t care about Jacksonians and doesn’t know when to shut the hell up, but I expected the Governor to ignore the tantrums of the childish Mayor and do what’s best for the State and citizens of Jackson.

Mayor is a repugnant person, wholly lacking in respect for anything save his marxist ambitions. He uses Black dependency as a victim class for his race mongering lies and exhortations, in part to hide his record of incompetence.

Good for Tate. The mayor asked for it and Tate obliged. Good luck to the mayor. No one to blame but himself from Nov 22 forward.

Sweet Tater will go down in history as being the friendliest governor we have ever had.

I live in NE Jackson and I can tell you that this mayor is one of the dumbest people on the planet
Stupid in many ways
He likes to hear himself speak and that’s all
He is a clueless small minded moron. I can’t stand him
I bought him a drink once at Char
Long ago no thank you or kiss my a$$… he likes to hangout at places with money but is a pure leech and can’t
Make it on his own. He supports from low self esteem it seems like to me.

For the residents of Jackson's sake, I hope he gets it right this time. Lumdoobie needs to quit toking and get his ... ... act together. For the Flag people, WHO CARES WHAT IS ON IT, It could be an outline of the state with the word LANDMASS on it for all I care and yes I am a long term resident and saw how MS kept re-electing a demented dud called stennis, who was LONG past his expiration date, into office. At the end they were having to roll his drooling carcass into the senate so they could vote for him. Who knows how many elected officials are like that right now. I have my suspicions. Since we are the landmass between Louisiana and Alabama or shoot, just put flyover country on it because our major airport is in the third world country of Jackistan. We have a bunch of entitled crooked thieves and criminals in office that are just in it for themselves and the heck with the population. Just look at the border, inflation, all the woke crap, the pedophiles pushing "Family Safe" transgender twerking events and book readings at libraries. God help us.

So, we'll be without water again soon because they mayor will hire one of his relatives or friends...great.

9:33 -- Write this down and have it carved into stone --Those of us living in cities outside of Jackson and on rural water systems pay for our water, sewage and garbage collections and do not want to pay for Jackson's water, sewage or garbage. Why should Jackson have different rules. The state is not in the water, sewage or garbage business --- and shouldn't be. If you want water then pay the piper. If you want sewage, pay for it. If you want garbage pickup, then pay for it. I don't care if you get Socrates or the Jackson Mafia to do it -- as long as residents who use it pay for it, just like those of us in Gulfport, Tupelo, Greenwood, Meridian, Vicksburg, Carthage, Louisville, Laurel, Hattiesburg, Picayune, Columbia, Puckett, Richland, Lena, and every other damn city and county in the state. Being a black majority city doesn't give you license to exploit others for your benefit. Equality means everybody operates under the same game plan.

No...more political gamesmanship at the expense of Mississippi citizens.
Money got "coughed up" ONLY when the political consequences to do otherwise were too great.
Playing "gotcha" with water doesn't entertain or please me.
The idiots should be working together not playing politics. It's hard to tell which one is more " my way or the highway" but GEEZ LOUISE this is INSANITY.

9:30 nailed it. The Governor and the Mayor are like two second-graders in a "nyah nyah" fight. Meanwhile, we Jackson residents suffer the consequences.

October 29, 2022 at 12:45 PM, you poor thing, do you need your blanky?

Anonymous said...

1:17, why should I, and others non Jxn residents, pay for the mistakes of your elected leader?
There have been zero protests against Choke.
But there’s a standing appointment for them against the Gov.

Maybe y’all should organize and take action to improve the shit hole you live in, before you demand Tate and the rest of us fulfill some imaginary obligation to you guys who didn’t move when the leadership made it clear they would never be anything more than children.

Nobody is going to give you a blank check. We’ve seen the talentless toddlers the majority of you vote for.
So try this…Pretend Chuck is white and plan your reactions using that image.
You guys would calling for his arrest, so just stop electing and blindly protecting minorities and use merit and intelligence as your desired guiding attributes.
It’s too comical at this point to even pay this any mind.

Quit dissing on Tater. He is threading a needle here and doing a fine job. As to the Mayor, 10:30 a.m. summarized very well.

Anonymous said...

Everyone should watch this closely. Chuck got what he asked for. He will have control of water for the unfortunate residents of Jackson. He has already drafted his reason when everything falls apart again. An again the base of Jackson residents will agree when he blames everyone but himself.

Anonymous said...

At least call a special session and enact a recall law so we Jacksonians can have a fighting chance.

Ben Hadd said...

Tate will stand up to a young incompetent buck of a mair but caved when Digbart and Peter Gunn told him, purely for political reasons, the flag was gone. Some of us remember that Tater had promised three times that the decision would or should be up to...gasp...the voters. Regardless of your (or my) opinion of the flag, and your silly insults aside, that should be decided by all the citizens of the state.

It's just this simple - The gov knows the mair of Jackson is a paper tiger and he knows Digbart and Peter will eat his lunch.

Twitter is disaster.

African-Americans are tweeting the Governor is pulling out because he doesn't care about minorities.

No, he's pulling out because of the Mayor.

Reeves cannot win. It's the damndest thing I've ever seen. People cannot be happy. They cannot take responsibility. They refuse to hold accountable the proper person - Chokwe.

I'm so glad Governor Reeves stands up to the clown mayor of Jackson. PLEASE Governor, do the citizens of Mississippi a favor & continue to stand your ground. It's his circus now. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spend any more of our tax paying dollars bailing out the City of Jackson for the mess they created themselves. Thank you Governor Reeves & the many other agencies & individuals who actually took control, worked tireless hours, & got water back on for the citizens of Jackson. Let's sit back & watch what happens now without the State's help.

Everytime people are allowed to vote on something or some person there is a chance that it will all blow up in their face. Especially if the people insist on voting for a person who is not qualified to do the job. People can complain about the governor and people can complain about the mayor. Before they place blame on one or the other they should look at the job each of them are doing, or as in many cases, what they are not doing. Take a good look at the governor. Is he doing his job? Take a good look at the mayor. Is he doing his job? Do not decide on which one you like the best or what color their skin happens to be. Look at the job they are doing. Then decide.

To all you dissing Governor Tate ; He and the legislators HAVE done everything they can legally do plain and simple. It is up to the COJ citizens to change the outcome by speaking up; whether it be the illegal action of elected officials, illegal contracts or Voting the Mayor out. The State CANNOT run shotgun over any City in MS. If you know SOMETHING; Say Something! Same thing that is told to the young people in Schools! If you need phone numbers to contact any Branch of LEO ask KF and Demand the TV stations tell the TRUTH not what Chockwe is spewing as HIS version of the truth. None of us will any longer contribute water or taxpayer money if the COJ won’t stand for the truth. Right. I have struggled to pay my own bills but donated many times to help residents of Jackson. Mishandling of public funds and disrespecting City Council of JACKSON is a clear indication COJ does NOT WANT OR NEED anyones Help as the Mayor has said! Get out and Vote your conviction after praying!

Anonymous said...

Bozo just doesn't get it! This is just what mayor anticipated and wants! Everything is going to plan!

Anonymous said...

Chokwe needs to learn that you can make demands from a position of power, but if your position is weak you need to play ball, go along to get along, etc. He's no different than the Twitter employees demanding that Elon be nice. Yeah, let's see how that works out.

On another note, does anyone know when the official announcement about Richards Water Treatment service is going to be released?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
