The Jackson City Council voted 4-3 yesterday to sign a confidentiality agreement with the Justice Department. The agenda stated:
The Council discussed the mater behind closed doors. The Justice Department and EPA recently notified Jackson it wanted to "negotiate" a settlement over Jackson's violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
Councilmen Vernon Hartley, Ashby Foote, and Kenneth Stokes voted against the measure.

So Banks broke ranks - not surprising.
Wonder what it took to get him on board with the Mayor
Does Banks now have greasy palms leading to his breaking ranks?
837....don't you mean "how much?"
Any chance the boy wonder, mayor, vetoes this?
@8:37
This is about race and saving face. They must present a Black/Democrat Unified Front. It is too close to the midterms. This came down all the from the White House.
What happened to Chokwe's most transparent administration bullshit he spouted? Seems it's all on the hush now.
Virgi the Turncoat voted for this.
4-3 Hmmm, only four sets of palms got the grease while three sets came up dry. Oh well.
All hands got greased, they voted 4-3 to make it look good. That will, also, be the same vote to pay Richard's. Somebody better stand up and help Jackson.
Is this a violation of the open meetings act ? How can you go into executive session if you are not discussing personnel matters or pending litigation?
It doesn't seem legal to keep confidential legal settlements using tax money and relating to public health...
I guess the covid vax set a precedent.
Somehow I doubt we'll hear one iota of frustration relative to transparency and open government out of the LaddFraud or the Barksdalers or that pompous ass LeMaster.
This allows Mayor Laughingstock to spin anything and everything however he sees fit and then hide behind the confidentiality agreement when asked for specifics.
Jackson is so f*#ked.
This is pending litigation. You got a notice from feds they are intending to sue.
Here is written proof of the crooked things that have happened and are still happening in the city of Jackson. We, the tax payers, are going to have to put up the money for everything they agree to behind closed doors. We already know how crooked the leaders of Jackson are. Now when something is done we still have no idea how crooked the leaders truly are.
Is there a single honest person left in Jackson? Are the people in Jackson willing to provide cover for the same people who have poisoned the water they drink. Does the color of a person's skin really mean that much to them?
Someone should interview Roy Fur. He did a great job back in 2006 (ish) hosting a meeting between feds and city of Jackson at mdeq office to discuss misuse of fed funds meant for water back before then.
This ain’t new! Anyone pretending like this is about Harvey Johnson’s second run as mayor is missing the boat. Melton, to his credit, cleaned up HJ’s mismanagement (which is generous characterization) of funds.
"How can you go into executive session if you are not discussing personnel matters or pending litigation?"
Doesn't have to be pending litigation. Can be ongoing litigation with pending outcomes for ancillary or peripheral potential legal avenues. In other words, they can go into royal session to discuss legal unknowns or to make phone calls for advice and can vote in consideration of those unknowns. They also discussed the personnel matter of Chokwe remaining in possession of the purple robe and voted unanimously to keep the circus in town.
The Mair helped me draft the bolded part.
The United States had already stated they intend to sue. This letter says they might not if the city engages with them in an enforceable agreement. Therefore, this is not 'pending litigation'. It's just a followup threat that succeeded. It's better to succeed than to succumb, don't you C?
If the FEDs sue, can’t Antar just veto the lawsuit???
Virgil to Virgi: she who is fickle and leftward, ought read Virgil:
"Yield not to evils, but attack all the more boldly." and
"Fear reveals baseborn souls!"
Desperate Lil Choke is on the ropes, finish him!
Virgi has nothing to fear, Krustayr. No one will actually run against her so she'll be elected in the primary.
I will hold my breath and wait for ADAM GANUCHEAU and ANNA WOLFE to pen a blistering article about how the democrat city leaders are hiding and cutting backroom deals. NO TRANSPARENCY article in the MS Today should be forthcoming soon. I am sure of it. You know since they are SO concerned about public integrity, and they are "journalist" and everything.
I thought the Mayor's democrat friend in Biden's administration came to Jackson under cover the help the Mayor with a cover up defense. Is not the fix in place?
Guess someone missed the Keep it Public thing they were talking about.
10:46, apparently there’s no such thing as an enforceable agreement.
Look out the state of Mississippi. Choker has already faced the city council down. The state is next on his list. Tater, you better watch your step.
It doesn’t make sense to me that two government entities can reach an agreement and not allow the public to know what it is. Seems shady (& probably is).
We now must be living in china or Russia . This is not Amirica . To keep this secret from the citizens and tax payers is criminal and just to protect the Democrats and criminals that are the deep state of politics in this country. Chunky is rumored to be Bennys boy and the next in that seat. They must protect him . We all need to Pray these midterms and the 2024 Presidential are not Stolen, Time is running out on our American dream !!!
