NAACP President Derrick Johnson is trying to direct a bailout for the Jackson water system through Congressmen Bennie Thompson and his cronies at the EPA while cutting the state out of any oversight. $200 million attracts quite a few snouts. Let's not forget what happened nearly ten years ago when Mr. Johnson operated a non-profit that was in reality his slush fund. JJ reported on August 30, 2013:
The Secretary of State cracked down on a Derrick Johnson charity. It seems our head of the Mississippi NAACP is paid $120,000 a year to operate One Voice, a non-profit with the same address as the state NAACP. Although One Voice is considered to be a charity or non-profit, in reality it is a slush fund as most of the money is spent on consultants, travel, and salaries. Employees could sign checks made payable to themselves. Debit cards were issued to officers. $1.78 million a year makes for a nice little slush fund.
One Voice states its purpose is to "enhance civic engagement in the formation of public policy through leadership development, research support, training, and technical assistance for advocacy groups, associations, and community-based organizations with the purpose of improving the quality of life for African-Americans and other disenfranchised communities."
The state said One Voice did not submit audited financial statements nor was it registered with the state as required by law. The state also said One Voice tried to avoid submitting all records when they were requested. The state said One Voice paid for individuals to attend NAACP events in Los Angeles. It paid overdraft fees of $1,650. It allowed officers to use ATM cards to withdraw cash from the company's bank account. One Voice even chipped in on a trip to Paris, France for an unnamed person. Officers, directors, employees were allowed to sign checks made payable to themselves.
What is interesting is the state said "One Voice should not be soliciting funds, including submitting grant applications, to Mississippi based individuals and organizations." One Voice agreed these facts were true and waived a hearing on the matter. One Voice cannot solicit in Mississippi unless it submits a complete renewal registration and is approved by the state.
The 2012 Form 990 states Derrick Johnson earned $120,000 as the Executive Director for One Voice. One Voice received $1.78 million in revenue. One Voice operated at a loss of $122,581. It spent:
$548,684 on salaries
$164,500 on travel
$128,547 on conferences
$539,733 on consultants
Check out these grants
Kingfish note: Let's call One Voice what it was: a slush fund. A slush fund for Derrick Johnson and his merry band of cronies. Writing checks to themselves. Debit cards. Trips to LA, Paris, and Spain. Penguin, Char, and other fancy restaurants. Nothing like partying on the non-profit dime, right? Earlier post.
Nsombi Lambright now leads the organization at an annual salary of $100,000. One Voice files its 990's as required by law every year.

Let’s call it what it is. Hate and Jealousy when African-Americans have a higher standard of living than whites.
Let's call it what it is. Fraud.
@6:13 we appreciate your loyal readership and comments! your diversity of opinion is always a nice addition to the dialogue! see you tomorrow!
Many folks get Derrick Johnson and Carlos Moore confused when their names pop up.
Let's not forget the grant Toni Johnson stole was originally Derrick Johnsons money. Derrick will end up in prison for embellishment from NAACP..
Many thanks KF for informing and explaining the City water woes to me a transplant. Lived many places, New Orleans for years. Same old story in Jackson, use the blight of people to get a slice or all the pie, mostly Federal debt money. I strive to tell outsiders they are clueless on Mississippi, stuck in some Hollywood distorted version of the past.
@9:07 PM
I need to correct you. That is JUDGE Carlos Moore.
@11:04
Embellishment isn't a crime.
One Voice is evangelists for change and social justice. Why you dont go investigate how Pinelake spend they money you racist piece of crap?
If you know what you're doing representing po' folks can make you rich. It's called "gettin' over".
Derrick has a long and profitable history of this type. To wit, the Hinds/Jackson redistricting contract and the job that he and his fellow water-issue-in-Jackson-is racism litigant Harvey Johnson and the Clarion Ledger orchestrated with the Jackson Convention Center vote, despite repeated warnings that the water system and rampant crime needed attention before the viability of a convention center should even be a thought.
2004 seems just like yesterday.
Derrick’s “talent” obviously impressed and paved the way to bigger riches on the national stage.
Jackson IS the perfect proving ground.
Kudos to Kingfish for his memory bank. Please dig deeper.
@8:07
Pine lake isn’t getting government grants you moron… are you stupid? Besides pinelake cane spend money as they like since they are private.
@10:21 AM
Go ask them megachurch preachers in Rankin county that be having Teslas how they gettin over
Right, also her emails, both matter about the same, which is to say, not at all.
@11:09
Pine lake runs a school and daycare. They are definitely getting federal funds. Plus they file the exact same non-profit, tax exemption documents, as One Voice and Baptist Hospital. They all pay their executive staff very well.
8:07. What a stupid comment.
To the 1st poster, 6:13....
Some... occasionally many, get a higher $$ income but maintain the lower "standard"...
Don't be confused.
@2;39 - didn't you read ------ or is it that you just thought you would skip over it? The SOS came down on One Voice and Derrick Johnson because THEY DID NOT, AND REFUSED TO, SUBMIT THE NON-PROFIT TAX EXEMPTION DOCUMENTS.
That was a nice try for you to compare the two organizations; it is true that Pinelake does submit the required non-profit forms and make the proper reports. But, as the old JJ post pointed out, Derrick and his slush organization One Voice, didn't submit the forms and admitted that they had not submitted them and acknowledged their refusal to submit them.
Now ----- lets go back and you tell me again how they are the same?
11:25 Good point. "Gettin' Over" happens all over the place. It's just that "gettin' over" on rich folks should not bother us like hustlin' in the name of "the disadvantaged" like the News, Farve, Bryant, USM, and yes, D. Johnson.
The damn whataboutisms are 5 foot deep on this board. Are all of you whataboutist determined to use relative judgment? No wonder our country is so screwed up.
@11:25
Can you at least use proper English while on a post!!! “Go ask them preachers” that alone tells me your just on here as a troll because no one I know uses that poor of english.
Racism has been "weaponized" by those who cling to the comfort "racism" provides them.
It absolves one of any personal responsibility for their situation and provides comfort by redirecting the responsibility of their situation to someone else. For the "race hustlers", racism is the answer that answers all questions!
Could I play basketball for the NBA? No I could not. Should I demand the NBA to have a policy to "set aside" a few slots for people like me? Is the NBA discriminating against me or do I just feel that they are? Maybe I should have practiced more free throws, dribbled more and did more wind sprints. I could adorn the "victim" role and tell anyone who would listened that the NBA wouldn't let me play! At some point, you have to realize that you are responsible for your situation. Determine to do the best you can, where you are, with what you have.
@8:57 AM - Bwa, ha, ha, ha.
"...tells me your just on here as a troll because no one I know uses that poor of english."
"your" should be "you're."
"...poor of english."
"english" should be English.
Mr. Johnson should allow the Mayor to run City of Jackson , Governor to provide leadership to Mississippi without his input. He is not an elected official in any capacity. One month ago he was accusing the President of the United States of not doing enough now he is trying to use the White House leverage to put both the Mayor and Governor in check . Is Mr. Johnson the Mississippi NAACP President or the National NAACP President? He has never be effective in any capacity therefore his suggestions are useless. Always follow the money trail if Mr. Johnson is involved.
