The Madison Police Department issued the following statement.
On October 4, 2022 at approximately 11:30am, an officer with the Madison Police Department Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 55 southbound near the 108-mile marker in the City of Madison. During this stop, the officer became suspicious of criminal activity and during a probable cause search of the vehicle, the officer recovered marijuana along with several dogs that were inside multiple cages throughout the van. The dogs were malnourished and one of the dogs had injuries consistent with dog fighting.
An investigator with animal control was called to the scene and the 11 dogs were immediately taken to a local veterinarian for emergency care and treatment. All of the injuries were documented and the investigation is ongoing.
Edward T. Bronaugh, age 56, of Indianapolis, Indiana was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Transporting Dogs for the Purpose of Dog Fighting and Animal Cruelty. The investigation is ongoing and District Attorney John “Bubba” Bramlett was contacted. The case will be forwarded to his office for prosecution and potential forfeiture proceedings based upon the animal cruelty and transportation charges.

Secure him in a pit chained, then let loose the hounds. Have absolutely nothing for this type of animal.
These dogs don’t want to fight. It’s sick really. Inhumane. Claim him up and let them loose
I've seen the police dog trainers using those thick padded suits when training their dogs to catch and hold on to the "bad" guys.
They need to use this (real) "bad" guy instead... without affording him any sort of padding. Dogs could get a real taste of what they're doing.
I am glad they arrested these inhumane people. My real complaint is, why are Madison county Sheriff personnel patrolling and ticketing in the various “cities” in the county?. The cities have their own police. Why does MHP arrest people in the city limits of Canton, Madison, Ridgeland, etc.? Apparently we are paying for way to many “law officers?” Forcing them to over cover the areas already well covered by so called trained law officers. If you have been unnecessarily stopped by some of these “law officers” unnecessarily, you understand my angst.
Feed him to the pigs. I wouldn't want any dogs to catch something from him.
I wish I knew what to say about what a person who supplies animals for dog fights deserves as punishment. Anything I say might say pulls me down to his level, which is a place I have no desire to be.
I do know there are people (some purely evil and some purely insane) who would happily fight him, seeking pleasure through the satisfaction of their animal desires to inflict pain and injury.
I wonder if he would scream horrors about the demon cruelty of some humans if he were thrown into a pit with one of these people.
I guess it would be wrong to do to him, what he is perfectly willing to do to these dogs, who likely never had anything against him.
I wish I hadn't read this news story. I feel for the police. I guess they deal with such things more than we know.
6:55 pm - Madison County Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction over entire county regardless of city limits. Madison The City's Queen Mother tried to fight that fight with a prior sheriff and she didn't get her way. MHP has jurisdiction on state highways that pass through the cities you mention. I'm sure the police officers of these cities welcome the help.
If were you I'd be thanking my lucky stars for every LEO that wears a badge because the crime south of us is moving not fast and in a hurry.
If you're doing nothing wrong when you get stopped you got nothing to worry about. Its peoples mouths that generally get them ticketed or locked up.
Poor babies and to think dog lovers are rescuing dogs in Florida hopefully before alligators &snakes got them! Thank you for saving these dogs!
Zzzzzzz.
6:55, shut the hell up. You started your post with a sentence that you hoped no doubt would deliver you from, to use one of your words, the angst of those like me that love animals. When in truth, you are too ignorant to realize that really bad things are going on up and down our interstates. This officer is probably one of our highly trained interstate interdiction officers that is trying to keep this stuff out of your neighborhood. Go cry somewhere else Karen! Good job Madison LEO!!!
I remember when Hopkins was Sheriff. Cock fighting was a "protected" sport in Madison, The County regularly. I know....I saw it first hand. But only because I was there on a legitimate business reason and saw it.
animals fight all the time without humans around. I don’t see the big deal with betting on animals fighting. I guess I’m just not a bitch like all y’all.
Where are all the I-20 smuggling defenders at? Madison gets a pass but Pearl doesn’t?
Yes, 6:55, I do understand the angst of driving around while smoking dope and getting "unnecessarily stopped" by the police. They, of course, thought it was quite necessary.
The police have WAY bigger fish to fry. Too often they settle for "low hanging fruit".
9:10, what was the legitimate reason you were at a cockfight?
Sort of funny when the same people who are so sure this man deserves the death penalty are the same people who are at every football game, boxing match, and any blood sport that man is involved in.
One thing that most people do not understand is you cannot make a dog fight. If it doesn't want to fight it will not fight. It is different with man. Give them a little money are they are very willing to fight.
So 6:55
What don't you understand about MADISON COUNTY Sheriff's department???? I believe all the cites you mentioned are in MADISON COUNTY, which fall in the Sheriff's jurisdiction.
Shut up and go back to reading Jackson Free Press for all your "woke" news, also known as liberal lies.
Damn Yankee-
Let me try this way, Kingfish: A certain law firm in the metro is typically interested in dog fighting cases. Watch and see who takes the case.
to 7.48...i was a chicken feed salesman
I smell what you are cooking 5:25. And I agree.
