Doe's in Ridgeland closed recently. These photos were shot last night.
Can't blame this on Jackson water.

The likely real reason - too close to Jackson/E. County Line Road.
Tough market when you have to compete against Ticos & Kathrynsm being that close to #ChokwesJXN doesn't help any
It’s because of the water in Jackson.
Never really heard people talk about eating there although I heard plenty talk about Ticos and the new Shapley's incarnation. This is the problem when restaurants branch out. The one in Greenville has really good food but a certain charm to it. The walk through the kitchen makes it different. The building has character. This was just another strip mall restaurant. It would be like putting Two Sisters in Maywood Mart or Renaissance. Just would not be the same. People don't just go to Does in Greenville for the food but the experience.
Hate to hear it. They were always known for big steaks. But not necessarily the best steaks. It was always tough to compete w Shapley and koestler and others. Doesn’t mean I want them to have closed. Best of luck to them.
It never seemed to have much of a crowd the few times I went. Might’ve done better in Madison or Flowood, but it is possible to do well in that area, Amerigo and a few others that have been open a while close by. For anyone wanting a hidden gem, the green ghost tacos on county line is excellent.
That original kitchen can never be duplicated.
(No matter the location of their "franchises")
Doe's is a Delta legend,
but so was Lusco's.

Ridgeland is spiraling down so fast. It’s sad to watch.
Ironic that a previous responder compared this restaurant to Shapley’s and Koestlers. All three were established from Greenville Ms. residents. All are really great people.
They tried and made a good product.
Wish them the best
I went once with my son to see how it was, and I thought it was fine. But only fine. You’re right that it didn’t have much character and, for me, the food didn’t overcome the lack of character. If I’m going out for steak in Ridgeland, I’m going to Ely’s. No, not Tico’s. No, not the old Shapley’s. No, not the new Shapley’s. It’s Ely’s. Still, I hate to see Doe’s close their doors.
They retired & closed back in August about same time school started. Restaurant was closed before the second week of August (I know because I called for reservations for my birthday and they had a recorded message that they had retired.) We miss it!
Never eaten there, but the Doe's in G'ville is the most overrated restaurant in the 'Sip.
Was the beagle bagel there not doing well? I always thought it was busy when I went.
If you don’t like Doe’s in Greenville there’s something wrong with you. As Mr. Fish said, it’s the experience. And that cooler by the door as you walk from the kitchen to the first room of tables has some really cold Miller Lites. Used to stop and grab one every Friday on the way home from work . Little Doe usually didn’t even charge me.
They closed about a month ago pretty sure. I heard mainly a staffing issue.
Gotta agree with 7:58. Heard about Does for years. Finally made the trip. There’s a guard who has to watch your car, you walk thru the “kitchen” to be seated at a dirty plastic table cloth table. Served over priced food. Seriously disappointed.
very few people ''retire'' from the restaurant business.......................odds are they went broke.......a resturant going broke? ...happens all the time
What's really ironic is that Shapley came to Ridgeland many years ago at the behest of the Signa family (Doe Signa's boys) and the food was catered out of Greenville. From that springboard we have what Shapley's is today. Then Shapley brought Koestler (Koestler Tile family of Greenville) on board and look how that blossomed.
Ely's in Ridgeland is also a Shapley venture that was borne out of the Doe Signa family years after Signa sent the young Shapley boy to Ridgeland. Ely Shapley was the patriarch (a builder) of the Greenville family and his son gave the restaurant Dad's name.
This is not the first Signa failed venture. There was the sandwich shop on 51 in Ridgeland. But, ventures are good things and entrepreneurs have built this country. Some make it, some don't. No shame in giving it a whirl! And some of you look down on the Delta and its people! Shame on you. You belong at Krystal anyway.
Location, ambiance, food, service....and still it's a dice roll.
Never heard of them
I thought this was a second career for the owner whose employment moved him to this area, and he retired, wanted to do something different, I do not dine out very much.
The original is great. Great steaks and unique atmosphere to say the least. And lots of history in that building. I've never seen any of the other Doe's franchises last more than a year or so. Nice try, but you just can't duplicate the original. And if I want an expensive steak, we have some great options already in the metro.
Every time I go to Doe's in Greenville, their building is physically leaning towards collapsing a little more. Still worth the experience described by KF.

I didn't know Nancy Pelosi read JJ.
I ate at Does in Oxford years ago. Food was okay. I guess they shuttered the does there. Went to the one in Little Rock
Came to the one in Ridgeland. Meh. Overpriced for a crummy cut of beef. Only went once. Never been to Greenville or the one in Richland.
Enjoy your retirement
Went there once, got upsold on everything without realizing we were being upsold. Food was good but didn't enjoy finding out after being asked "Would you guys like some bread?" that what that really meant was "We're about to charge you specifically for some bread."
@11:58 AM
Interesting way to tell JJ that you are poor and have never been to an upscale restaurant.
Attn 11:58 Have you ever been to a college football game? If someone gives you a free ticket, don’t buy any pop corn or even a soft drink. It may hurt you in the wallet.
The place I miss is Schimmels. One of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten.
I’ve got to say this. Don’t knock them for trying to do something great. They tried, but we have a dire situation in our country with young people not wanting to work. I’m struggling with hiring 2 or 3 new people per week and dealing with the fact they have quit school around the 9th grade. On top of that hard work was never part of their lifestyle and their biceps are as big as their wrists. You can’t make pedigrees out of mutts and I just hired one who is 21 and has his Class A license. He told me he won’t drive a truck because of the responsibility involved. Folks, this begins at home, but when parents don’t encourage kids to stay in school you have a LABOR SHORTAGE because they learn to get by on government assistance. This goes for both races. When I came up in the ranks in the 80’s I didn’t realize I was going to be facing this as a business owner. I do business with a supplier off Gallatin Street and we went to High School together and he told me that if had to give drug tests he would have NO employees. What I’m getting at is that we have not trained our young people to have a work ethic and it has caught up to us. And it’s biting us in the ass. The restaurant industry like all of us are suffering because of this…and it’s our fault. Don’t start with your boomer shit…you’re one of them and you know who you are ( directed to the poster who calls us boomers) The point is…there is no one left to hire…
5:54 - But I'll lay odds you know the name of the founder of Krystal. You see it every Saturday in those big frames on the walls when you dine in for breakfast.
Couple of snide comments on here about “poor” people. Some of these upscale places do have good food, but when you take your family out to eat and the bill could have bought a week’s worth of groceries, that’s not something a lot of good folks out there can afford, at least not very often. If that kind of bill for supper doesn’t faze you, you may be a bit out of touch with reality for a majority of the state. More power to you if you can truly afford it but don’t be condescending to those who can’t, or who choose to do more fiscally responsible things with their money that to create expensive feces.
4:10 pm
There are millions of willing immigrants who will work hard for low wages…collectively we as a country will not let them in via a legal path.
When slogging in the kitchen in the 80s and 90s or waiting tables I was able to always have $100 in my pocket. Today your need $250 in your pocket with parental help. I am sure you’ve tried but keep paying more than the next guy and it’ll happen….you’ll get better people.
Hang in there. We need guys (and gals) like you towing the line.
5:51 quit electing Democrats like Biden and we will all have more money in our pockets. Tongue in cheek, but I didn't hear a single soul gripe about money or labor shortages or supply chain issues until after January 2021.
If the restaurant industry as a whole ever starts pre-employment drug testing, that includes marijuana and cocaine panels, there won't be five left in the state. And you people bitch about your wages while some of you brag about spitting in my food. You have nobody to blame for your fate but yourselves. Nobody should or does guarantee you what you call a living wage. Your labor, just like mine, is worth what you can trade it for.
To the lady at 7:38, my starting pay is $23/ per hour and I train. Hope you gals can figure it out
If they could have hung in there just a little bit longer, the area surrounding Doe's Ridgeland would be close to being as dangerous as the area surrounding Doe's Greenville. I've eaten at all of them, Doe's Ridgeland/Greenville, Tico's, Shapley's, Ely's Koestler, all of the ones in the delta. Doe's in general is very OK.
5:51 - Madison County in general and Madison The City in particular is right up there at the top of the wealthiest counties in this state. Check out the per household income, then come back whining about who can't afford to eat out. People travel from all over the Delta (and beyond) for the occasional gathering at Doe's in Greenville. Same could be true of the one that's just closed, but it's not.
I lived in Greenville for a long time before I could afford Doe's, but, now that I can, I'm there at least five times a year.
Is the one in Baton Rouge on Government St still open? Anyone know?
Nope. Closed.
Only went once. High schoolers seating tables and not letting us meet up with friends already seated at our reservation - ok they are just kids. Very casual setting but high end prices. We treated friends to a shared steak and fries and it was over $100 for just that. The steaks were not remarkable regardless of the inflated price. I think the owners meant well but misread the market and the demographic. Decent food but high prices for a very casual ambiance.
I ate there once. ONCE.
Must be in the minority but I ate at Doe's in G'ville once. Mediocre, but big steaks in a crappy building. It rained and water seeped up thru the floor. Women had to pick up their purses from the floor. Cook in kitchen literally sweating into the food. There is a reason the Delta faded away a couple of generations ago.
If that's charm, some need to get out more.
