Now Hiring

Unlike the city of Jackson, MEMA is taking the bull by the horns and advertising job openings for the O.B. Curtis water treatment plant.  MEMA posted on its website yesterday:

No "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" for the perpetual Chowke insiders, thus no palm greasing, rebates, and kick-backs, right?

I'm so thankful that the adults are back in charge of the water plant.

E) It's not clear whether we're talking about an Independent Contractor or those who meet the definition of Employee.

In either event, to whom will they directly report? That's the most critical element of this whole thing. And if 'they' say, supervision and oversight will be a joint responsibility between the City, MEMA and other parties, that's a no-go. When everybody is in charge, nobody is in charge.

MEMA likely has a prospect or two lined up, which is probably a good thing.

Hey, Jackson. This is how things work when actual leaders are in charge of things. Take notes and use them in the next elections, please.

So, but I won’t rest easy until I see MEMA and/or the State post permanent job openings.

Sadly, it apparently DOES take a village to supply potable water to a democratic city. The mayor is so incompetent, he is underwater.

"I'm so thankful that the adults are back in charge of the water plant."

Maybe they can take over garbage collection when this is finally working.

Now do the airport.

10:14 AM, good idea. Jackson does not really need a mayor. Whoever they would elect would only get in the way.

So the state of Mississippi gets to foot the bill while Jackson perpetually gives us the 'ole "check's in the mail" excuse, and Lumumba flitters away to Miami. I've said it before and I'll say it again: for democracy to work, you have to be willing to walk away from losers (and sorry to the people of Jackson, right now that's you). If people can be bailed out from the consequences of their poor decisions/votes, then the incentive for change is completely ruined.

Lumumba and hinds co board of supervisors are constantly talking about how the water plant is outdated yet it’s newer than many places water plant. Nothing wrong with the water plant except the people that are in charge

So they need a Contractor's license to not actually do any construction?

"to provide project management and/or construction coordination personnel to facilitate the response at the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Facility, assistance with identifying potential treatment plant vulnerabilities, and assist with the preparation of a resiliency plan."

Sounds a lot more like a manager, operator, or engineer. Why are none of those licenses required?

It’s going to take a Contractor to run the water treatment plant. There is one on my mind who I feel is very qualified and is local ….then there is one who always somehow seems to slide in and use politics, as they have for many years, and will sub contract nearly all of the work. And there goes the issue of honesty.

There are newer water plants, but they were not neglected for decades. Nor has anyone seemed to compare the costs FEMA and EPA think are needed to "fix" all that's broken or told us which pump you'd fix first and how much revenue lost from meters you would tolerate.

You pretend the water plant was in great shape until when? The last white mayor?

I've had with Jackson's city government and the county's and the State's.

When so many bad decisions and so much corruption can occur throughout the organizational structure, you best start looking at the organizational structure.
Remember why you liked Mabus as Auditor? Remember how many legislators had federal charges...so many that the State legislator made it ok for a federal felon to hold office here.

Or you can all keep pretending ( despite even recent evidence to the contrary that was a smaller nationally noticed scandal) that your political party is virtuous and the other party is evil.

And, you can continue to compare apples and oranges as if level of the office and facts in evidence don't matter. YOUR party's guy is being politically " framed"...that's your "story".

And,the rest of us, who aren't blind have had it! You broke the lid of the "cookie jar" long ago and act shocked that those who followed couldn't resist. How naive is THAT?!

Someone mentioned here about a documentary called “Empire of Dust” on YouTube. I checked it out and it really does demonstrate the fact that neglecting inherited infrastructure is a common denominator all over the planet. They had all the same problems as Jackson. Crumbling roads, failing water system, crime, corruption, etc. They even blamed the “colonizers” for their problems even though they had been ruling themselves for decades. The Chinese man in the movie just couldn’t hold back. You’ve really fucked up when you are getting lectured by a Chicom!

I guess this RFP can forego the usual however many days worth of advertising in the Jackson Advocate?

You can’t post job openings when you’re jet setting across the country. Did you hear about my major award from Harvard? No? Call me in Miami.

So Jacksonians have no drinking water. Let them sip champagne… like me.

Right?

Jokeway Lumumbles
Mayor of Jackson Kush

There's no way, no way I'd go to work for MEMA. They're known for getting rid of employees once the jobs "disaster's" are over.
At least FEMA is honest up front about hiring contract employees.

Spoken from someone who's seen it.

September 13, 2022 at 12:37 PM, what in the hell are you ranting about? You are roaming from save us with Mabus, to somebody broke the cookie jar. Deeamn.

Maybe you should wait until the Adderall kicks in, or are you the guy from one of the other articles that does the shrooms? That mushroom tea will mess you up, I'm here to tell you.

Either way, I can tell you're liberal by the way you can't stay on topic. I know it's hard that your guy is just screwing it all up. What did you expect to happen? Yeah, I don't know what you expected either, but you seem unhappy with what you got.

As for the cost of this repair project, it doesn't matter. The citizens of Jackson, Mississippi deserve clean drinking water, no matter how shitty their mayor is.

Chok's already announced this in one of his press conferences. Along with all the other things that are quickly being fixed since the state and feds stepped in.

With all this progress that he speaks of at his pressers, won't be long until Chok finds himself in demand to sepeak at infrestructure conferences.

Ol' feller is really committed to public servcie.

12:37

You are either on drugs or not very smart. The citizens of Jackson deserve better whether your drugs come from Jackson or you were educated in Jackson Public Schools.

@ 12:37pm: Wasn't it Socrates Garrett who said, during Tony Yarber's colorful regime, approximately: "You whites ran Jackson for two hundred years, now it's our turn."

Lumumba is a marxist radical, he never deserved a turn.

It doesn’t take superhero powers of deduction to realize that MEMA is looking for qualified people who can successfully navigate the transition from the emergency relief stage to wherever the hell this ends up. FEMA, ACOE, and loaner experts from out of state can’t stay forever. In fact, on day 1, McRaney said the federal emergency declaration was of the 90 day variety. Beyond some very early “we’ll never abandon y’all” feel good sentiments, I haven’t heard any solid or credible assertions that this effort is destined for perpetuity. That sucks for me and the rest of the tax-paying citizens of Jackson because we have very little other hope. But, it’s not 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina.

Anonymous said...

You know things are bad when it takes MEMA, FEMA, ACOE, and loaner experts to “identify” and “replace” frigging burned out lightbulbs. If that’s not an indication of gross neglect and ineptitude, nothing is.

Anonymous said...

This is unfortunate. I don't think they will find who they proport to be looking for. I don't see there being anyone out there who has the specialized knowledge, skills and abilities they need who also has a contractors license. And a bond. There's a difference between a contractor and a consultant.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
