Judge Closes 2 Jackson Hotels

Jackson won a round in the fight against blight this week as  Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeff Reynolds shut down two dilapidated hotels Tuesday.

Judge Reynolds closed the Regency Hotel on Greymunt Street.  The court order states mold is pervasive throughout the hotel while the roof is in a state of disrepair and in danger of collapsing.  The plumbing is in a serious state of disrepair as well.  These conditions existed while the hotel has tenants.  .

Baka, LLC owns the Regency.  Ketan Patel is the managing member of the LLC.  The defendant was Zhu Juan Ping. No one appeared in court for the Regency. The Court gave the hotel 72 hours to close and eject the tenants.

The Oyo Hotel on I-55 frontage Road by Northside Drive suffered the same fate.  The site has been the scene of numerous shootings and is a known drug haven.  JPD busted the managers for drug dealing out of the hotel several years ago. Earlier post

Judge Reynolds found the defendant, Bharat Parchal, to be in contempt of court as he closed the hotel. He said the hotel was missing fire extinguishers, elevator had not worked for years, six rooms were not secure, and there was excessive debris in rooms.  The building did not meet the electrical code and is a major fire hazard.  He ordered Parchal to serve 30 days in jail for contempt of court.  Judge Clay had ordered him to repair the property over a month ago.  Parchal did not comply so the Court enforced the order.

Judge Reynolds gave the Oyo 72 hours to remove all tenants from the premises.

Funny how “the rule of law” is expected to be followed by everyone in Jackson…errr..except for the criminals and the Mayor.

Thank you, judge. That's two steps in the right direction.

Yet crickets on your boy Phil and his boy protector Shad. You’re a sellout, KF.

Their plumbing is not working correctly. Please tell me one place in Jackson Ms. where the plumbing is working correctly.

yeah right. Believe it or not, I've been drinking through a fire hose on this water crisis. I'm going to get caught up on the DHS thing within the next few days but as I've told you before, I'm not playing following the leader and just republishing MT's stuff except for when they break something no one else has. In this case its court documents so I will read and post about them. Just as I did when Pigott was fired. I told you the same thing, not that you listened because you obviously didn't, The tv stations are all just reprinting their stories this week when their own reporters could read the same court filings and do their own versions.

I'm one man, they are several. you want water or DHS? You can't have both at the same time here.

KF has no credible source on the DHS matter. If he did, he’d be all over it. He jumped in Shadrack’s camp early on and appears to think it’s safer to just avoid the subject for the most part at this time, unless he’s trying to make a big deal out of someone selling their house or some minuscule fact like that. The recent reporting is absolutely not in Phil’s favor and Shad can’t avoid being linked to the “whistleblower” anymore. The water deal is low hanging fruit, and Anna Wolfe will run circles around KF on that topic in time too.

Closing these drug den hotels is a step in the right direction for Jackson. Hopefully, the properties can be completely re-developed. In the case of the Regency maybe the State of MS can purchase the property. Essentially, this eliminates two large drug hide outs that are located in what should be ‘nice’ areas of Jackson.

Both hotels need bulldozer therapy.

I hope the Luv tub/ Sam’s lounge extended stay is closed next.

So the buildings will close to business, but will remain standing and physically open for vagrants, at least until the next cold snap when they will be lit on fire; a la Ramada at 80 and Ellis.

Next up Best Value Inn Jackson across from Canton Mart Road.

This is big. Those hotels are a real problem.

Where will all the people go?

Anonymous said...

The state has been attempting to 'purchase' the Regency for a while now, ever since Cowboy Andy got the legislature to give him some money to do so. But they have had problems getting the deal done with the owner - whoever that actually may be. Bet that this move by 'da Judge was a step toward that process. Then, despite some of the comments here, the property will be demolished and it will not be a blighted abandoned property.

Now, the one located on Northside? Yeah, it probably will be left to the vagrants just like the office building on Briarwood and the hotels in South Jackson on Ellis and 80. There, the City of Jackson is in charge, and they won't get around to doing anything for another dozen years or so.

Didn't he also order the Select 7 closed a while back? That one never shut down.

Where the Loose Ladies going to go now??

Now go after places like Rainbow and Star Motels. A motel that charges by the hour on Hwy 80?? Gee wonder what clienteles they are catering to?

If I pay $29.95 a night for a hotel room, it’s because I’m paying $29.95 a night for a reason. Fuck out of private business.

all I need is a BILLION dollars to clean up the Hotels in JAX!!!

Brings back memories of the old Admiral Benbow hotel in Jackson. My mom would take us kids to Jackson just before school started every year to buy clothes and we would always stay at the Benbow. Big ol' swimming pool and a restaurant that made the best club sandwiches. No shootings, no drugs. About the worst thing that happened was one of the patrons would get a little tipsy out at the pool.

We've really lost something when we lost Jackson. I feel sorry in a way for younger people who have known nothing else and think this is normal.

In the 3 weeks since Tater was forced to take over the water situation, COJ suddenly tended to long neglected little things like mowing the corn fields at the High St and Fortification ramps, half-ass filling some potholes, and making a show of installing a few new water meter in Belhaven. Antar can run but he can’t hide.

Thanks judge. Please looks at some of the other hotels that need to be shut down. As an added shut down Walk Ons bistro in Ridgeland.

I despise Antar Lumumba as much or more than the governor does. When he said “I don’t read the city’s daily reports and neither should you,” I was hoping he had the fortitude to go with it all the way.

12:44 "Yet crickets on your boy Phil and his boy protector Shad. You’re a sellout, KF." Is this your only source for anything considered news on Phil? Has the new firm even had time to review what went on prior to their taking over? I would imagine it will be some time before that hits the fan.

For those of you hatin' on KF, it's real simple.

Don't read JJ.

He's fried me and failed to post many of my responses over the years but he is the only TRUE source of info I believe.

Where will Chowke's dope boys ply their trade?

This just in: Socrates Garret bids $4.35 to tear down both hotels for the city.

With these properties closing in a few days there’s going to be a lot of druggies and hookers on the move over the weekend

Cheap hotels have been around for a long time but the issue is from what I was told by a source close to the owners of the foreign owned hotels is that Katrina changed the landscape in more ways than you could imagine. When the refugees came North there were no places for them to live or stay temporarily so a deal was cut to give the hotel owners government housing subsidies to house them. That allowed a new group come in and purchase the older hotels while the old owners were out raising funds to build new franchises hotels from investors from their home country who would come here on an expedited Visa. The members of the families were charged $500,000 each for their investments and after a short period would blend in. As I said that’s what I was told by someone close to a hotel owner. He told me it was faster and cheaper to do this than to build apartment complexes in a short period of time.

What about that big empty run down Episcopal church property off High Street and NS Street? If there's not vagrants in there I dont know. And cant we cart these panhandlers out to the city limits somewhere?

Ten days ago I submitted a rejected-post regarding The Cartel that exists in Madison County. My post was in answer to a thread presented here by Kingfish regarding law violations. Kingfish got his drawers in a wad assuming it was racist. Now we have two more examples of businesses owned and operated by the same Cartel-larger-cult violating rights legally granted to the public.

These people could not care less about your health, safety or comfort. All they want is for you to pull into the hotel, convenience store or eatery. Do so at your own risk.

What we (collectively) need to realize is we have more to be concerned about than Jackson water, garbage and crime and...well...If you read this blog, that's all we need to worry about.

One way to help start the turn around of Jackson is to have all the properties that have been "donated" to churches dealt with. All of these abandoned eyesores where people are dwelling need to be completely torn down and all debris removed. Plant grass seed and a few trees and let it go. If this occurred all over Jackson where there are abandoned houses and building things would slowly start to get better. Get rid of the structures used for illegal activities.

Owners of these dilapidated buildings, Call Kamala Harris, she will fill these hotels up. Once it is full, in lieu of rent, put the illegal immigrants remodeling and fixing deficiencies. After fixing it up, Biden will pay you to retain these illegals.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
