State Imposes Boil Water Notice on Jackson

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

The state Department of Health has imposed a separate boil water notice on the City of Jackson due to high turbidity levels in its sampling. While the City routinely monitors for turbidity, or cloudiness, samples taken earlier this week were above standard levels, which increases the chance the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

Elevated turbidity levels are caused by the use of lime, which is used to adjust the pH of the water. Although lime does not affect the filters or the filtering process, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

What does this mean? What should I do?

  •            DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in water.
  • ·        Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated headaches.
  • ·       The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking the water.

What is being done?

The City continues to monitor the use of lime to ensure consistent levels are maintained. In response to the citywide notice, the City is distributing cases of bottled water to residents in need on a daily basis. We will inform residents as soon as turbidity returns to appropriate levels and will lift the boil water notice.

For more information, please contact the City’s Public Works Director, Marlin King at 601-960-2091. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.

Turbids… Yum yum!
It’s all so tiresome.

What if I add ammonia to my turbid water, does that help anything?

Damn- finally hear the name of the City Public Works Director; He has been in total hiding (or being hidden) ever since his answer to the Council last fall when asked a specific question about Hizzoner's "garbage" contract. (the contract to pick up the thrash)

Why can't MSDH force the City of Jackson to get its crap together? Sick of this. The health of people, primarily poor blacks, are at risk.

Grilled turbids with hot sauce is great.

Water samples taken 06/27-28/2022 showed turbidity levels of 7.5 turbidity units. This is above the standard of 0.30 turbidity units.

To minimize the confusion, there should be a notice that says:

"Until further notice, always boil your water in Jackistan."

However, boiling the filthy water won't get the lead out. So sorry.

But the city said pressure was increasing and we would have water by the weekend?

What happened, Mayor? Why is everything you touch failing?

wouldn't lime kill bacteria too? i'm not aware of bacteria being able to survive being douced in lime.

Enough is enough. I have written to my council member twice with no response. This has gone on too long. It’s time for heads to roll.

Where's Antar Napoleon this week? He's squandered some prime opportunities to shoot his mouth off about matters for which he doesn't possess a clue.

This is terrible for the already depressed restaurant business.

Usually when I can't get my turbidity under control, a tablespoon of Pepto-Bismol does the trick.

First 2 times I read "turbid" I read it as turdbird.

Jackson is Dead

6:52 - you can write your council member all you want, but under the form of government that Jackson has, the council member has no authority to do anything regarding the operation of the water plant, other than approve contracts proposed by the mayor and paying the bills.

If Jackson had a different form of government - or, of course, as an alternative, a mayor who actually gave a damn and tried to do his/her job - then these problems could be more properly addressed.

I imagine that your council member is just as frustrated as you and most of the rest of the citizens of jackson are about the incompetence that is provided by the current mayor and his administration.

We have a new boil water alert on top of the boil water alert we already have?

In reply to 8:37 p.m. I said...

Yeah, that's right. It's called a double boiler.

Bills keep coming said...

Meanwhile I keep getting a bill for $80 a month for contaminated water…

Perhaps Jeff Good can explain the situation.

The man is good with any national media interview.

Prisoners of war are treated more humanely than Antard treats his constituency.

Maybe y'all can get a Geneva-Jackson convention.

I live in Jackson and was wondering why none of the other cities around Jackson ever have these issues? Where do the surrounding cities have their water "cleaned"? I know Madison gets water from Bear Creek but where does it get sanitized? Same for Brandon, Clinton, etc....

In reply to 10:15 a.m. I said...

Well, while the age old question of "Does a Bear shit in the woods?" is still up for debate, we're pretty sure he doesn't shit in the creek. At least the Bears in Madison County don't anyways.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
