What did he say and when did he say it? Such questions seem to escape WAPT's star reporter as he fabricated a story about MDAC Commissioner Andy Gipson last week.
The Commish held a press conference about the Mudbug Festival shootout last Wednesday. Commissioner Gipson said three options are usually discussed at the Capitol when fighting crime in the Capitol Complex Improvement District is the topic. Discussed meaning discussed by legislators and state officials. He said the first option was to create a special judicial district with its own prosecutors and judges in the Capitol Complex so just would be indeed more swift than it is in Hinds County. The second option is to enhance penalties for crimes committed in the Capitol Complex. However, the Commissioner said he did not support either option, a statement ignored by Ross Adams.
The Commish said he did not support either option but instead favored a third one:
But the best option, in my opinion is the very best option, is to use the resources we already have. The judges who have already been elected, the district attorneys, I know them, they are good people. I know they are people of good will, They want to do the right thing.
In other words, Commissioner Gipson rejected using special judges and Green Zone penalties and instead supports what is already in place. Give the current criminal justice system the tools to succeed. He later said in the press conference he supported legislative and Supreme Court efforts to provide more prosecutors and judges to the existing Hinds County criminal justice system. Unfortunately for Mr. Gipson, these words fell into the cone of silence at WAPT.
Ross Adams heard the first two options and apparently stopped listening. Read the transcript of his report last that day and watch the video:
The Commissioner wants the state to get really tough and create a special judicial district and increase penalties for people who commit crimes in the so-called Capitol Complex Improvement District, which includes this area here at the Fairgrounds.Mr Adams completely ignored the Commissioner's recommendation of using the existing criminal justice system. Once he heard special judges and penalties, it was off to the races to crucify a white backwoods, tooth-picking, Bible-thumping, cowboy-hat wearing, twangy Republican redneck (Did I miss anything?), facts be damned.

Ross Adams is a hack. I wouldn't even be surprised if he was the one alluded to in a previous comment.
Typical of the media today.
Perhaps the reporter was deafened by Gipson's Bible thumping. In any event, I hope he likes the taste of crow, because it's apparently time for him to eat some.
Is it any wonder why the press, especially in Jackson, has less respect than congress? The abject refusal (not failure) to present full and truthful reports is shameful. The Clarion-Ledger is in a death spiral; local television news ought to be. But never fear, your president’s ministry of truth will keep these corrupted “news outlets” going by suppressing sites like this one.
Even bloggers sometimes omit relevant material, or misstate certain facts, and then refuse to publish comments that correct the record, or supply the relevant facts. I don't know Adams' work, because I never watch 16's local news.
TV reporters are the worst about reporting (misreporting) on a subject without actually taking the time to learn and understand the subject. Marsha Thompson was notorious for such.
@1:39 pm
Likely Ross Adams already has crow as a weekly favorite on his plate and should now be plunged head deep into a bucket of ripe buzzards.
C'mon now. Does anyone really think a third world country (with apologies to all real third world counties) like Jackson is going to have good media outlets with good reporters ? Why would they spend their money on good staffs in a place like that ?
Besides this blog, I think the only local news media outlet that's not completely in the current mayor's pocket is WLBT. They are trying to bring light to the problems of Jackson. Too bad that other news outlets are just in it for 'clicks' and 'links'
I would mark it up to him being a "cub reporter" but since he's been on the job for well over a decade there are only two conclusions to make. One, it was intentional misrepresentation of the facts or two, it was sloppy work. Nonetheless, he is a reporter to be avoided.
Delete this you fucking racist KF
pot meet kettle
Excuse me 2:24.....I believe you have KF mixed up with our Mayor!!
Trying to figure out what the fuck this blog thread is even about. Does Mr. Kingfish have a hard on for the station? For it's reporter? for The Hat? I read every word and came away feeling real, real used. The whole story is a nothing-burger.
Who cares what the Commissioner's thoughts are on safety or which version of whose version Ross Adams reported or didn't report? None of that matters since the venue is an island in the middle of a war zone, with no solution and no viable choice for safety. Can't we talk about something important like whether or not Hubcap Heaven is still open on Highway 80 near the South State exit?
David Hartman is the only reason to watch WAPT. Often WAPT spends more time on January 6, climate change, Covid, and Ukraine than on local news.
This happens way more than the mainstream media wants to admit. Journalistic integrity is long gone, much like integrity in our government. Not saying its all “fake news”, though way too much isn’t really news in any credible sense.
Thanks KF. Did not vote for the AG Commish during the last election, but his remarks came across as thoughtful and without incessant dog whistles (okay, the Bible quotes weren’t necessary. . . Separation of church and state?).
The Commish deserves better than the WAPT hack job.
Kinda agree with 2:58, but because the audio is so bad on the recording, I can't really interpret what The Hat is saying or whether Ross 'improperly reported it' as alleged by KF in his attack.
But so what? The Hat did include the other two ideas as solutions, even if they aren't his preferred solution. Did he say that they were not good solutions? Did he oppose them as reasonable choices but just not his?
More importantly, just how does The Hat propose to make the current Judges and the system 'better'? Did he offer any suggestions? Did he suggest something that would make the Hinds County Circuit Judges stop their Catch and Release programs? Does The Hat still think that just because he can claim the job wearing The hat is part-time and therefore he can continue to practice law that he can also pretend to continue to be Judiciary Chairman and make laws?
See that he has announced that he has cleaned out the old Armory Building on his playground and going to make it a Command Center for enforcing the law. Under what statute does he have that authority, other than maybe providing a place for LEOs to gather when patrolling his playground?
Not that I am against finding any way to solve the problems that our Mayor won't address concerning the lawlessness in the Capitol City but I'm not quite ready to turn that responsibility over to the 'farmer' from Simpson County - unless he has the ability to Sound the Trumpets to cause the walls to fall and thus kill the bad guys.
Oh and 3:10, don't forget the juvenile "Rossen reports", who at best states the obvious. That guy is probably making a killing
319 - seriously? Separation of church and state? You make a reasonable comment but then suggest that as a quesition?
Do you understand the concept- it is that the state cannot impose a religion; its not that religious comments or talk cant be made.
Commish can make all the religious comments he chooses as long as he is not making you, or more particularly his employees or those his official job impacts follow or participate.
And actually there is no "separation" of church and state. The phrase is a paraphrase of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson who said "separation between church and state". As the Supremes said several decades ago, the recognition of God does not constitute the establishment of a state church, which is what the first amendment prohibits.
I knew before I even read the story, it would be about Ross Adams. There has never been a local reporter in the Jackson area who was less of a professional or who had less integrity than Adams.
Sorry but a journalism degree is about as useful as a degree in Ancient Mesopotamia Environmental Justice Studies. They don’t do any actual reporting.
He doesn’t need an apology, no one gets an apology when republicans like Hyde smith slanders the democratic population and talk her big talk when she thinks the wrong people aren’t listening, naw fish, even you advocated for free speech when musk bought twitter, fish a good reporter has to be fair
May 10, 2022 at 2:24 PM
Is that you Ross Adams?
546, what a dumbass statement.
Free speech? Don't know how you get a free speech conversation here, but anybody that can make the statement that Hyde Smith has slandered any population I guess is entitled to make any stupid statement they choose to.
I always think about out of state people traveling through the area on business or pleasure that are here for a night or so and tune in to our local news on TV. They're probable scared to death and can't wait to leave.
Especially with all the crime, murder, and violence being reported. And- the majority of the reporting/reporters are subpar. It's just what it is. Sad.
Nothing's as easy as it looks.
310 & 524 are spot on.
Wapt's programming has taken a turn for the worse in last yr or two.
And Ross Adams is a horrible lil troll.
Let's don't forget that Mr Adams was first on the air in Jackson on WJTV. For whatever reason they let him go and WAPT picked him up. Unlike Bert Case changing stations in the same competitive market is usually a signal that there is a problem with the reporter...

I assume all reporting is biased and at best loosely based in facts.
The Ross Adams of the world have ruined journalism.
ahhh....yes, certain ''media personalities ''.......they are all just frustrated ,wanna-be actors.
in that song ''dirty laundry'', by don henley, henley sings '' i could have been an actor but i wound up here, i just have to look good , i don't have to be clear'.
so true.
As much as I dislike Mr. Gibson and consider him a proud piece of flesh that is intoxicated with the sound of his on voice I have to give him credit. He is always capable of conjuring up free press.
So in other words the hat was talking in circles (what Chokwe does), and Ross Adams still has a punchable face?
I had a friend in town from Atlanta and the news was on. She said, "my God this Jackson news looks like it is produced out of some frat house basement".
But, but, Ross Adam is "an award winning 'investigative reporter'," according the his bio that he no doubt wrote himself, right?
Discuss!
In the TV news industry the anchors are called "the talent," i.e. they are actors, just like @8:34 AM penned above. Watch them closely with all of the facial expressions. They constantly go from a smile, to a frown, to a smile, following a script while doing their best to sound sincere and empathetic, but really pathetic.
It's a pretty obvious political ploy to state in sentence without a negative, something you hope will get you the political traction to act upon.
The denial of that being your first choice is there for "cover".
The reporter made a mistake and may not have heard the cover if he was taking notes or someone talking in his ear or else saw it for what it was if politically savvy.
If only everyone on both sides were perfect like their party's politicians who only make " forgivable human" mistakes.
Suppose what you say is true, that is why you go back and watch the tape again before making the package.
All Media on TV AND Print in Jackson MS. is intentionally bias towards Republican leadership and nuthangs on Dems. It is what it is.
8:44 : Lol, spot on !
Creative Editing, lol
it was off to the races to crucify a white backwoods, tooth-picking, Bible-thumping, cowboy-hat wearing, twangy Republican redneck (Did I miss anything?)..you forgot "good old boy".....
