Good. I wouldn’t want my fiancé to risk her life entering the City of Jackson. The fewer dollars we have to give for Lumumba to squander, the better.
Not really an excuse, but I'm sure those folks can't afford to stay on a sinking ship (the USS Jacktown). Their customer base is likely no longer in Jackson, so they are moving where the business is and somewhere their customers feel safe going. I guess the only question that I have is why it took them so long?
Lumumba… you are a total disaster and all people know it. NE Jackson hates you as does Belhaven… basically the people that are educated and pay the taxes for you to squander. All think your incompetence is at an all time high. You walk into Char like you own the place but all the people there think your a fool. You can’t produce anything.
@9:57: I concur completely.
Lack of water service on a regular basis probably didn't help as well.
Get out now- while you can.
Yeah, y’all are right. Businesses don’t expand into buildings with more space anywhere else. After all, there is an entire paragraph in their release on how the move is a political statement against Lumumba or Jackson in general. Silly me for missing that the first time.
It really takes a special person to root for failure like y’all do. I’m sure that’s gonna get y’all far in life. And kingfish, I’m having a hard time following why this is a news story—other than feeding the trolls.
10:15 : Lol, his next Char visit should be interesting. Does he even pay when he and his gaggle roll in ? I bet he doesn't tip either.
10:15
Too bad none of you have the courage to pelt him with rotten food and dung like the old days.
There goes the rental value of Banner Hall.
I am sure Chuckles performance at the Garbage Town hall makes this decision even sweeter.
Watching him man-splain that all of these "minor problems" occurring are just to be expected as Richard's takes over the garbage routes.
Such confidence, that one instills. What a buffoon.
Just because people are getting shot outside of your business, there is no potable water, or enough water pressure to flush toilets, garbage is piling up and you don’t know who to call, you tear up tires trying to navigate the streets, your property and other city taxes are out of the roof, you might as well leave your car unlocked to keep from having to replace a broken window, I don’t understand why you want to move.
For all the other rubes out there like me, the Bridal Path is on I-55 North in Jackson. Though I've never heard of it until now, the place sounds like it has been a Jackson institution for a very long time. Once I Googled its location, I understood the comments.
Businesses and other tax payers who remain in Jackistan are, as Vladimir Lenin said, "useful idiots."
They're moving because:
1. Jackson's weather
2. A dog ate their dresses
3. Too much sunlight
4. The perception of crime
10:36 : ??? I pelt him with stink eye every time I see him and his gaggle strutting around downtown. Looks like Drake video about to break out down here when The Mayor is doing his thang.
@10:36
He basically goes into char and greets old money NE Jackson gray hair ladies that are senile and support him. All others in the right state of mind smile kindly and then think what a smug idiot. He’s the emperor with no clothing. Love how he actually thinks he’s doing a good job. If it weren’t so sad it would be comical.
The Mayor and Law Enforcement know who the dope boys are and allow them to operate. If you cut them out and put them away for a long long time. Things will begin to look up in Jackson. For the time being I just avoid Jackson!
This shit ain’t rocket science! However I guess y’all know what you are doing!
April 27, 2022 at 10:28 AM; not sure how many times this needs to be explained, but none of us, not even those of us living in the 'burbs, want jackson to fail. we want jackson to succeed. the better jackson does, the better things are for everyone.
i'm sure these ladies would have liked to have stayed in jackson, if they didn't have to worry about the high crime, shitty schools, highest per capita murder rate in the united states, shitty water service, high taxes, bombed out roads, and the safety of their customers.
but when you have all of those things weighing on your mind, then deciding to spend god only knows what on a plot of land, architect, engineers, designers, and the construction of a new building is a sort of political statement against chowkey and jackson in general. do a little bit of research as to why puckett machinery is in rankin county now in a new facility instead of expanding the one they had in jackson.
this dumbass of a mayor, and multiple mayors before him have presided and are presiding over the absolute decimation and destruction of jackson. if i'm wrong, please prove it, cause i would love to be proven wrong on this. there is no way, an administration can be so inept, and incompetent. this is intentional.
and i'll answer your question as to why this is a news story, even though you should already know if you've been reading this blog for a while. this is another example of another business, basically a jackson institution that has been here for decades, that is moving out of the city, for greener pastures, because of all the reasons i've already mentioned. they are taking with them all the taxes they pay, the taxes they collect from customers, what they pay for the food they eat while at work, the gas they buy from gas stations before/after work, the groceries they buy from grocery stores after work on the way home, and all the other dollars spent by their customers that do the same. all of that is going to madison, the city. which further contributes to the decline of jackson and ascension of madison. that is why it's news.
Face it folks....nary a single area left in Jackson Mississippi that isn't in some way dangerous. Yes, even you old money hood dwellers are dealing with things. It just doesn't make the news because you are trying to keep home values up.
Next.
Why does Jackson need a bridal shop? As many as 80% of new mothers are single, according to the latest figures I read.
Councilman Stokes made reference to a potential rumor that Target will relocate NE Jackson store to Madison. Anyone got any information on this?
So, where in Madison is the next location?
basically goes into char and greets old money NE Jackson gray hair ladies that are senile and support him.
So basically the 1960s white women portrayed in the movie The Help?
Ah yes 1:02.
All of Mississippi is unsafe so we should just tolerate Jackson.
Your apathy and acceptance of sub-par elected officials played a huge part in the reason for the decline.
Keep telling yourself the whole state has it as bad as you, if makes it more tolerable to go without water and smooth pavement.
1:48 : A cookie for you.

No doubt that some people on this blog are "rooting for failure," as you say. And clearly a lot of the comments to posts like this one end up being rah-rah blather for people who are pro-Jackson, anti-Jackson, pro-Madison, pro-Rankin, etc... That said, a lot of what gets posted here is just plain facts. And most of those facts point to a clear conclusion: Jackson is a disaster. Sure, it has some good qualities, but on the whole - disaster.
Feel free to call BS on people when they are spreading it, but you can't argue with the facts.
Won't be long before the M-Bar folks open up a little "pub" in there. Jackson is a prime candidate for a space rock landing.
2:16 I agree with you. I personally wish Jackson would gentrify and improve.
Let me know if Chuckway ever forms an advisory board that includes all skin tones from the tri-county area so we can have a voice.
I would contribute my time for free to help.
Now...tell me honestly if you think he'd listen and act on anything such a board suggested?
I don't cheer for Jackson to fail, but we have no ability to help it when you elect buffoons. You also need to understand that being ignored, silenced and abused drove many residents away and that resulting resentment of seeing our city ruined is valid sour grapes.
I am a local insurance agent. I can't tell you how many claims our office has had from Banner Hall to Higland Village to Smith Wills and all parts of what is somewhat perceived as "decent parts of Jackson" due to being broken into or stolen. If you are in a Ford truck, it is like they are waiting in the bushes on you. It is scary if you look at how often it happens.
The question about Target moving to Madison -- at one time Target was going to be part of a new commercial development called the "Madison Galleria." They were called one of the anchors at the original annoucement. Location: On the north side of Hwy 43 at Grandview Drive behind the La Taqueira restaurant and the Circle K, northwest of the Burger King castle. It was never built, but I am sure it probably is still out there if needed.
Mr. Stokes has had two pretty good zingers lately that have me chuckling. On the Target issue, he noted that Madison was beating us like a drum.
On the stupidity of parking the garbage trucks out at Hawkins Field, he said we would have rats big as cats (he's right).
Stokes for Mayor....because we don't have one.
Since they will now be catering to Madison, expect the quality and price point to drop so their new customers can afford it.
5:56 If you think brides in Ridgeland and Madison are shopping at David’s Bridal because it’s convenient, you’re as uninformed as you are arrogant. We already shop in Jackson at The Bridal Path but will appreciate not having to do that for much longer. Direct your petty anger where it belongs - the city “leadership” that has failed you and led to this.
I thought the parking area at Banner Hall was safe. Or at least safer than Highland Village. That bridal shop was very crowded and they do need more room.
Target withdrew from the proposed Madison location because of the grief they got.
4:47. Just wait till the rats attracted by the nasty garbage trucks start taking up residence in the few aircraft left at Hawkins. They love to eat the soy based wiring insulation used not too long ago. That’ll total an airplane in short order. When all the aircraft have left we can then expand our wonderful zoo and golf course onto the property. It’s a win/win right? What an f’n 🤡show the current administration is. A new level of ignorance I’ve never witnessed. Speaking of aircraft, what’s going to happen when the one on call maintenance crew at the Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers Mayor Flaps A Lot Airport leaves and there’s no one to take their place? The board with all their aviation experience certainly has a plan right?
Moving from one ghetto to the next. Just stop running you can’t get away.
The truth is out, quoting: Just more space. Right.
Look… plenty of NE Jackson residents own and operate businesses in Madison and flowood. I can name several. My neighbor in Ne Jackson builds tons of houses in Madison and he lives in Jackson many physicians at sports medicine and plastic surgeons practice in Madison flowood yet live in Jackson. They also don’t won’t to deal with Jackson city BS … by the way can anyone name a white person that mayor lumumba has appointed or hired?
I'm white, have had a home in NE Jackson since 1991. Not one instance of any trouble. My neighbors have changed several times over the years, but all are wonderful people. No break-ins, car burglaries or trouble in all that time. We still walk the neighborhood safely and stop and chat with neighbors.
It was the Bridal Path’s intentions when the new owner’s purchased it in 2018 to move to Madison. The matriarch is a Madison alderman. She has stared her distain for Jackson for many years. No one in Madison is surprised and most knew this would happen eventually.
I think most of us are just frustrated with the level of apathy the Mayor(s) and City Council(s) have had in the last two or three decades. Every city in the nation faces, or faced, issues like crime, poverty, roads, schools…. There’s just no politician that’s willing to do what needs to
be done in order to move towards fixing the problems. Who is going to shake up JPS? Bring in more police and vote in judges who dole out sentences for crimes and not blessings? Provide opportunities for jobs outside of fast food and gas station retail? Embark on replacing all the water infrastructure?
Let me see, Jordan Hillman, Bob Miller, kept Michael Raff and when he passed, appointed a white guy to replace him. Complimented him at the city council meeting Tuesday
@4:47 You know we are in trouble when Kenneth Stokes is making a lot of sense. Never in my life did I think I would start agreeing with him.
8:54 : Oh yeah, and those rats won't be the little ones either. I imagine they are already moving in.
Lol the Mayor goes to Char, that tells you a lot about his taste. Truth is Bravo is the better restaurant, and has better steaks than Char. There I said it! Screw Char and their a la cart pricing.
Bye Bridal Path. Sad for the other tenants of Banner Hall, but it makes sense that they are moving
@8:16 AM - The rats in city government are moving their offices to Hawkins Field?
Awesome! Welcome Bridal Path to Madison! Where exactly is that building being built? Looks nice!
8:40 : Lol. Hawkins Field is to low brow for Mayor and his crew.
8:37. Also, the vast majority of customers at Bravo know tipping etiquette, and the vast majority at Char don't. (Talk to a server there)
Yes many of us love Jackson would love for it to succed but when you have the horrific 4 years that Baby Chok had and 80%+ vote for his relection what can you do. You cannot worry about a mans problems more than he does and apparently the Citizens of Jackson say everything is great.
Just another wake up call. Again people want basic services and to shop and dine without worrying about safety. The Last election showed many in Jackson dont care and that was the last straw for many
12:48 and the world. The last election had absolutely no decent or semi-acceptable candidates. We had our current immature asshat, and a slate of nothings. Charlotte Reeves. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
