Express Grain Prez Threatened

The President of Express Grain Terminals said he has received several threats because of his company's failure. The Greenwood Commonwealth reported Friday:

The president of Express Grain Terminals LLC said that he has received threats following the company’s decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

“I have been threatened several times.  I am concerned and taking it seriously,” John Coleman said in an email Thursday.

He added, however, that many farmers have shown their support: “I have received letters and calls letting us know they are rooting for me and our team to accomplish the task.”... Article

Kingfish note: El Presidente should probably consider himself lucky. Once upon a time, the farmers would not have threatened him. They would've just done it. Progress! (Comment classified under jackassery)

The all popular raising the "victim card." It's very fashionable and effective in these "woke" times.

That guy must be a narcissist. He and his bank allegedly wrecked the lives and livelihoods of a lot of farmers in the delta, and he' playing the part of the victim. Rich

Why are these farmers worried? The government ALWAYS takes care of farmers. Price subsidies, crop failure insurance, tax breaks etc. Their kids go to private schools and drive those jacked up four-wheel drive pickups. There's an old joke up in the Delta: Q: What's the difference between a poor farmer and a rich farmer? A: The poor farmer only takes ONE European vacation each year.

KF isn't far wrong. GWD has it's share of folks who don't take lightly to getting screwed. It hasn't been but a very few years that one fellow got his head hung under a dump bed and another got shot in the middle of the night in his own house. That's not even counting the recent law office shoot out with auto weapons. If I were Mr. Coleman, I'd be in a self imposed "witness protection program" right now.

That grain elevator may not make it to spring.

Should an IT guy with no business or farming background be president of a company like this. (Hint-hell no)

I don’t think that’s new

Who better to cook the books than an IT guy?

So is this large chunk of change sitting in equipment, was it snorted, was it gambled, or is it overseas?

What's this world coming to? You steal from people and they want your head on a platter...weird. Who could have predicted that? It's almost like some strange "eye for an eye" thing or something.

Some strange murders in Greenwood, starting with the Leflore County Country Club Murders in the 70s up to the recent man who murdered his wife and two friends at her birthday party (technically in Carroll County).

How much of those funds ended up in a certain Congress-critter's accounts?

I know this is corny said...

You can take it to the bank that there is a grain of truth to this story

12:50 you are out of touch with reality. How comfortable is the cotton shirt you are wearing? How about the cotton sheets you sleep on? I realize this is about grain and not cotton but it amazes me how keyboard cowboys are so quick to think farmers have it made. In other private industries are prices set by the government? Crop failure insurance, flood insurance. This is the same as other businesses getting insurance to protect thier assets. I would tend to bet you are not leveraging your house and possible land if one is fortunate enough to own and not lease on making a descent crop. I would assume you go to your 9-5 job and collect your check with benefits on a bi-weekly basis. It would be a good exercise to really watch and learn what all a farmer does before spouting off.

I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if something happens to them for what they did. Banker too. That’s not lunch money we are talking about. Word is Wade has had cancellations on some big ticket equipment orders. People end up wearing concrete shoes in the river for this type stuff. Theft, pure and simple, and was allowed to be bigger than it could be by the banks greed.

What’s a dump bed? Sounds awful.

What's new about threatening to whup the ass of someone who wrecks your livelihood? Next?

You're mixing your cliches. The private school set who go to Europe, are NOT the set who drive the jacked-up scumbuggies. I doubt that you care about accuracy, though, since you seem to have been hired to demonize Delta farmers. One can guess who hired you, and why.

As for that "old joke", unless you've dug-up a lame literary quip from pre-1925 (the year of the Cotton Panic which ended the Delta's golden era), you're LYING. I've been around Delta people since '82, and have not heard that "joke" or anything similar.

Delta farm families EARN their money (when they make money: frequently, low crop prices preclude profit). It's a capital-intensive/low-profit-margin BUSINESS, which requires a high degree of education, hard work, and LONG HOURS. The farmers (Possessing BAs in Agronomy or Business, at minimum) work from before-dawn, and into the night. Wives (who seem, these days, to all have postgraduate degrees or certifications) work off the farm (as insurance against destitution, should something happen to the farm - or the farmer), but typically drive farm equipment during harvest/weekends/holidays, etc. The kids help, too.

Private schools, in the Delta, are not optional - unless you consider the other options to be: not having children, or MOVING AWAY. If your farm fails to make money (because, no: the government does NOT "always take care of farmers"), you have no option other than to move far away (to a place where public schools are not violent hellholes). I have to wonder how many more families will be leaving the Delta, because of this latest disaster.

OK, dude...so he got it wrong. The jacked up pickup set doesn't go to Europe annually. They go to Destin, Aruba and Cozumel (each) annually. You feel better now?

I remember one of “your” president’s first visits after becoming president. Was to the collapsed condo in Fla. He stated after looking at it, “of course we (the government) are going to pay for it.”. I have no idea what happened after that statement.

That'sMisterDeplorableToYou said...

@ 3:45 So YOU haven't heard the joke, therefore it couldn't possibly exist and I just now made it up? Well, the other version of that joke goes that the poor Delta farmer "only buys ONE new Cadillac each year". Maybe you've heard that version. I've been around the Delta since the early 60s, and was graduating high school there about the time you pulled in, in 1982.

I have to wonder how many more families will be leaving the Delta, because of this latest disaster.

None, unless there is some other/additional motivation. The feds will find the money in the latest infrastructure bill or somewhere else to make these guys whole, or very nearly so. Or give them some sort of special tax credit that allows them to recoup the loss over a number of years. That's assuming they don't get made whole in the lawsuit that's pending.

Don't misunderstand -- I'm not saying that the farmers deserved this; they don't. But it's no different than every other "Po' ole farmers gonna lose they farms" victimhood ploy that goes around in the Delta most every year when it doesn't rain enough or rains too much or freezes sooner than expected.

Express Grain defrauded everyone, including its lenders, all of whom will lose millions.

10:19 - Would you care to comment on Bennie's successful effort to shut down the pump project? Do you also suggest the gubment will make all those Delta Farm Folks whole? Or are you just pumping B.S.?

If you were, as you suggest, 'in the Delta' around '62 and graduated High School there in '82....damn you must have been slow. I too grew up there and graduated high school there, but I can't think of any 20 year olds in my class. I know times have changed in them parts, but, DAYUM!

Spent most of my life around Delta farmers. Never knew or heard of one going on a European vacation.

I assume MisterDeplorable has heard the one about The Christmas Turkey. You know...he was full of crap.

I love all the knights coming in to defend the Delta Welfare Farmer Class.

Explain it any way you want--the government subsidizes and pays for your crops and has so many other programs to support it in case of failure. Welfare. No one is saying its not hard work to get paid by the government.

It is funny how corporate welfare and farmer welfare is fine, but welfare for the poorest is not.

The 800 pound gorilla in the room that no one is talking about is the doctor who owns 99% of Express Grain.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
