No words can describe the horror that took place on Highway 18 yesterday as an "alleged" drunk driver killed a mother and her baby while leaving her two other children fighting for their lives in the hospital. The suspect is Beth Ann White. Court records are littered with a string of DUI arrests for White but show no convictions.
Posted below are the court records JJ has managed to unearth so far.
* Case #16-cr-0035: White was charged with an unspecified misdemeanor in 2016. The case was dismissed October 8, 2021 by Special County Court Judge Jess Dickinson. The case was prosecuted by the city of Jackson.
* Case #16-cr-00789: A MHP trooper arrested White on February 17, 2015 four DUI. Hines County Justice Court Judge Tabitha Britton – Porter found White guilty and sentenced her to to pay a $1,000 fine on June 10, 2016. However, she appealed the County Court. The case languished on the docket until Special County Court Judge Jess Dickinson dismissed it a year ago due to the age of the case.
* Case #15-cr-00176: A Jackson Municipal Court Judge convicted her of DUI, careless driving, and driving on the wrong side of the street. White appealed to Hinds County Court. Special County Court Judge Jess Dickinson dismissed the case on October 4, 2021 after the prosecution said it could not prosecute the case due to "reasons beyond its control."
Attorney Marc Brand represented White in the above cases.
Court records show a DUI felony indictment in 2008 against a Beth White. However it is not known if it is the same person although this defendant pleaded guilty. Judge Green sentenced her to serve five years in MDOC but suspended fur year of the sentence and placed her under house arrest for one year. Judge Green terminated her probation in 2017.
Hillcrest Christian School posted the following message on Facebook:
As many of you know, one of our Hillcrest families was involved in a car accident that tragically took the lives of Allison Conaway and her son, Alex. Two of the other children are students at Hillcrest, Chelsea (K4) and Chloe (2nd). Both of the girls are in critical condition at this time at UMMC.The entire Hillcrest family is grieving this loss and want Charles Conaway and the extended family to know that we love them and we are praying for them. For those of you who have been asking how you can assist, first and foremost, please pray for the family. If you would like to make a monetary donation in support of the family, we will be releasing that information at a later date.

Won't be a slap on the wrist this time.
Unfortunately, it's too late for the victims.
Judges should be held accountable. That's part of the responsibility that comes with the job. If convicted the perp should pay if a judge won't make them pay the dues for the crime then the judge should be.
I would guess she and Dickinson have a thing going. Sure appears that way. She's bound to have connections someplace.
Look at the dates. Sherri flowers died in October 2016. Then the now suspended Perkins took over. I suspect quite a few cases disappeared or wound up somewhere collecting dust.
Shocking she’s been getting off all this time….not.
This is yet another example of White Privilege.
Only now that 2 people are dead will she see any real punishment.
This post won’t get 150+ comments by racists like the “savage” posts.
Fuck white people you deserve every beating, rape, and murder you receive at the hands of POC.
Former Justice Jess Dickenson was a hang-um-high judge until his son got in trouble. Every since, he has been as bad as Hinds' Circuit bench, and these cases are perfect examples.
Dickenson should shoulder the blame for the tragedy that occurred this weekend, and he ought to have to have this publically hung on his shoulders.
He dismissed all these old cases that evidently the Hinds County Judges let languish (therefore, it is on them as well) in his effort to "clean up the docket".
Maybe this will be good reason for the Supremes to never appoint him to serve again - anywhere. Wish it could be due to his having to answer in court for his letting this meanace on the streets again.
The judges should be held accountable? What about the prosecutors? The judges are required to follow the law. If a case sits stale on the docket for years, the Mississippi Rules of Civil Procedure state that the case SHALL be dismissed for want of prosecution.
It’s not Dickinson’s fault if the county attorney failed to prosecute but is that person Gearld Mumford?
If I was Ms. Conoway’s husband, I would find the most high profile attorney, SUE and SMEAR Hinds County and Judge Dickinson’s name all over the world. Judge Dickinson, this is 50% your fault that these people are dead and these children are fighting for their lives.
17 + 5. consecutive. Even Hinds Judges punish dui death.
Fuck white people you deserve every beating, rape, and murder you receive at the hands of POC.
You seem nice.
I hate that a white bitch like Tomie Greene cut her some slack, don't you?
Oh, please. A black man from Hinds just killed 3 Indians, including kids, on Hwy 25, drunk as a skunk. A old white woman in DeSoto had been arrested 5 times for DUI before she killed a motorcyclist in 2016. Look up African American Melandus Penson. Seven DUIs in Seven years. Killed two teenagers. And they were white. On a suspended license, too.
It's a society drunk all the time with lenient judges and DUI lawyers, themselves often DUIers, who created these tragedies. Hell, our State Supreme Court had a Justice with multiple DUIs. This lawyer oriented blog is sponsored by a liquor store. Blame them.
Not race.
Poor kids and their Mama. Prayers to those girls and the grieving Dad.
Only a racist black person would call this white privilege. It’s the Hinds County court system you should be mad at. Not defending her at all but why would bring race into this. Criminals.. white or black .. stay in Hinds county because they know they won’t do time. Cross over into Rankin or Madison county and get caught they will do maximum sentence. This is a sad day for all.
. . . and the author of the comment at 9:37 calls white people “racist,” without a hint of self-awareness . . .
Troll at 9:37
Even white folks get blessings sometimes, especially when the fix is in.
"Fuck white people you deserve every beating, rape, and murder you receive at the hands of POC."
Which is your home church? Can we sit together Sunday? I'm white but it won't rub off. I'd like to be your friend. You sound angry. I'll help you through it.
What is the background of Jess Dickinson. Is he an attorney?
1st. Judge: Judge Green-Black
2nd Judge: Judge Tabatha Britton Porter-Black
3rd Judge: Judge Jess Dickinson-White
And this is white privilege really? It’s crime not a black crime not a white crime it’s not a black judge or a white judge it’s a judge or judges choosing to give a slap on the wrist. Get over color we are American it’s beyond the point of ridiculous when everything becomes about race
Now WLBT has a story detailing her history of DUI arrests. Weird how they had the idea to do that, too….
Alcoholism is a horrible burdens on our society, makes life here more like hades for those who live with a addict. Being blessed contributed to her not getting sober. She will dry out now. Sad for the victims and families, just like that everything in their world changed. Pass where a mother and children were killed on Hwy25N by a man driving a SUV south in northbound lane under the influence. Never learned if he went to trial or was sentenced.
@ 11:08 p.m., I wonder if Dylan Roof made a similar request.
Why did it take days before the “alleged” drunk driver was identified? The system is flawed but so are the people who would rather focus on the system instead of the individual who decided to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while “allegedly” intoxicated.
@9:50pm - JJlawyer, this is a criminal case, not a civil case. The rules of civil procedure don’t apply here.
Except for the indictment, the DA wouldn't prosecute these cases unless they were felonies, which they weren't from what i can tell.
I bet she is in the hospital. If so, she won't be arrested until released. Such is the case w most hospitalized suspects.
this piece of shit deserves two to the head just like the piece of shit that tried to murder the Lyft driver, and just like the four pieces of shit that put guns to the heads of the Allen family. see what i did there, equal justice, race not a factor. none would ever kill again. problem solved.
Dickinson is one of the smartest judges in the state. I assumed he stepped off the Miss. S. Ct because he couldn't stand how ignorant Randolph is. This is the fault of the prosecutor.
Lawyers know to appeal from city court to county court in Jackson because there's a good chance the case will get lost. Especially with Priester having been sick forever and Stokes' lousy work ethic.
@8:35am - Not far off. Dickinson is intelligent, just not as much as you make him out to be. He left the Supreme Court to get his “higher 4” appointment, but failed at that position.
Vic Carmody, Kevin Camp, Marc Brand, etc., and the other “high priced” defense attorneys know they can charge $15k for a DUI to just appeal the guilty convict from justice/municipal court to the county courts in the tri-county area (Hinds especially) and the case will never come up on the active docket, effectively getting their clients off. Clients are too ignorant to know that they aren’t actually doing anything for the exorbitant fees.
Your wording could lead someone to believe that Justice Dickinson was to blame for this. He was not. It was the Hinds County system. CJ Randolph appointed Justice Dickinson as a special judge to help clean up and update Hinds County's docket. What he did was go through and dismiss all the cases that had been languishing for years and years, as he should have done. If you want to lay blame, lay it on the Hinds County prosecutor, DA, and/or County Court judges.
Huuuum. Marc Brand her lawyer?
The outrage in comments is justified but misdirected.
Once upon a time, alcoholics, like the mentally ill, could be involuntarily committed for evaluation.
In the case of addicts, they were institutionalized and treated for the 21 days necessary for withdrawal.
It took one poorly researched, and wildly exaggerated " investigation" by Geraldo Rivera on 20/20 in the '70's to give us the dumbest law in the land...to wit, no family member or medical professional or police officer could help these people until they are " a danger to themselves or others". This woman has now met that ridiculous legal standard!
We could have added safeguards to the laws we had to close loopholes used by greedy family members involuntary commitment mentally challenged and elderly family members.
But, no we ,as usual, politicians appeased the loudest of their constituents and "threw out the baby with the bathwater".
Now, the loudest and most angry have increased their success to the point our democratic republic is in peril.
KF, you are correct. She is still in the hospital.
9:37 Enough already. You don't need to pretend to be black to make that point. You got your reaction. Now enough.
Not that it matters much to the dead parties, but it may to the injured parties: The woman was, in all likelihood entirely uninsured or carried bare minimums. As you might expect, Mississippi has the highest rate of uninsured drivers of any state, with nearly 1 in 3 being uninsured. https://www.iii.org/fact-statistic/facts-statistics-uninsured-motorists
Don't travel the roads of this state without a substantial uninsured motorist policy in place. As insurance goes, it's relatively cheap.
The major problem with the Hinds County justice system is that the system only protects the defendant. No one in the Hinds County justice system gives a flip about the victim.
Devastating. This is the fault of the prosecutors for not pushing her crimes through to trial. Even then she probably would still drink. For someone who has been arrested so many times, it obviously never sank in that she should stop. Jail is too good for her.
The Hinds County prosecutor is Gerald Mumford. Looks like he is the one who dropped the ball.
KF, if as in the old days, the blood tox screen will have to come back before a warrant is secured. Theoretically, powers that be, could wait for a Grand Jury indictment before arresting her. Suspect with the “optics” of this case, they’ll rush the screen and cuff her when she steps out of the hospital.
Hinds County also does not want to be stuck with her medical bills while she is in the hospital. Thus it will rest her until she's released for that reason as well. My understanding is there is a guard or Deputy up there.
Seems the County attorneys are dipsh!ts . Should Mississippi's 3 strike rule have kicked in at some point ? Any relationship with this judge ? Lots of payola I imagine got this piece of sh!t off.
@ 9:54 a.m. Yes, which also led to decreased funding and closure of state facilities for individuals that met/meet the criteria.
I smell civil liability against Marc Brand and his firm. Cannot hide behind atty. client privilege if the attorney aids the client in the commission of a crime. Brand was the lawyer in most (if not all) of these DUI cases. He certainly knew of his client's propensity to drink and drive.
Seriously? He did what he was supposed to do, represent his client.
@12:51am - Yeah, that’s not how it works JJlawyer #157
i got news for you 9;08...............none of these pathetic drunken and drugged rednecks around here got 15,000$ to pay an attorney.
i been at that business 33 years and that just don't happen.
you suffer from the common delusion that 99% of people are wealthy.
hate to pop your ballon , but it the other way around here in the 3nd world nation they call mississippi
This isn't about black or white. Beth Ann White is an alcoholic who managed to fly under the radar and get away with her addiction until she basically murdered this innocent woman and her baby and injured the daughters. Her husband's life is changed forever. The only way addicts who commit crimes get sober is to be locked up. The day she killed these people was just one of many, many days she drank and drove I'm sure. It's just the day that she got caught because she ruined the lives of that whole family and their loved ones. It makes me sick that she hasn't been held accountable for her actions until now. Prayers for this sweet father and the two girls recovering.
8:35 - thank you Jess. I mean, with all respect, Justice. For only you would believe that you were one of the smartest Judges in the state. And there was never any doubt that you thought yourself to be the smartest.
Yes, you probably couldn't get along with Randolph, because he was smarter, and a better judge than you.
I'm sorry about the problems you had with your son, prior to his death. But that is no reason for you to release any and all drunkerds and dopeheads back onto society.
3:34 PM. I assume by "locked up" you mean until detoxed?
I was locked up for about seven days and then spent the next seven months in primary and then secondary treatment, where I was free to walk away at any time.
That was 35 years ago. . .
It is the fault of the prosecutors and courts that this woman was allowed to continue to walk around free and drink for such a long time, and now she has killed and maimed innocent people.
"As you might expect, Mississippi has the highest rate of uninsured drivers of any state, with nearly 1 in 3 being uninsured."
I wondered how long it would take somebody to blame this all on Mike Chaney. Next, let's see if she had illegal tint on her windows and go after the Tint Man.
On the topic of Mike Randolph's intellectual capacity - I submit the following. Check out 1:22 where he reveals he has no idea that there's a difference between bite mark evidence and identifying people via dental records.
https://livestream.com/supremecourtofms/2014-dr-01305-sct
Remember, this guy is now the Chief Justice of the Miss. S. Ct.
6:59, my sentiments exactly
8:52...There IS a difference between bite mark evidence and dental record evidence. Bite mark evidence, to be substantial, requires dental records. The converse is not true. What's your point?
No. Bite mark evidence does not require dental records. Try again. Did you even watch the video, Einstein?
Wrong, 8:48. Bite marks are useless without corroborating dental records (even those taken after the fact) that establish identity. You've watched too many Columbo episodes involving tire tracks and pubic hair.
5:35 - you have zero clue what you are talking about.
The judge, DA should be charged to for letting her free to kill ppl. Shameful. Family should sue the judge, DA and that woman. And she needs charged with murder.
