Homicide on Winchester Street (Updated)

A homicide took place at a home on Winchester Street near Highland Terrace in Northeast Jackson.

JPD arrived at the scene after 3:30 AM.  The coroner soon followed.  Another person was injured in the shooting.  JPD has not released any details.

The word on the street is it was a domestic dispute that went bad. Old boyfriend allegedly shot new boyfriend. The girlfriend was allegedly shot in the hand.

Update:  Couple went out to play some pool and came home. Old boyfriend was allegedly laying in wait for them.  The victim robably didn't have a chance. Victim came from a good family, had a cute little girl, and went to work every day. In other words, he was an adult who handled his business and had the misfortune of running into this lowlife.

JPD is searching for three other suspects while one is in custody.

Murder must have been around midnight if the JPD showed up at 3:30

A few weeks ago a house near Ridgewood and Old Canton was shot up and now one block from JA there is a shooting/murder? Raider Nation meet reality. Its like the "Blob that ate Manhattan." It's coming and you can't stop it. Good things houses in NE Jackson are selling so well!

9:19 - no one gives a damn what you say about NE Jackson. People who live in NE Jxn have made a decision to live there bc of schools, church, work, friends or for whatever reason. We will live with the consequences or get this fixed. No sh*t crime happens there, but it happens in Madison and Rankin as well - you can’t escape it.

My guess is you live in somewhere you aren’t very happy with, so you post on here to try and make others unhappy too. Good luck with that

@10:15
You are right about that. I recently visited some relatives in the Cleary Heights/Hoover Lakes subdivision in Rankin. I hadn’t been there in over 10 years. I was shocked to see how many people had places bars on their windows and doors.

10:15 I wrote a comment a couple of weeks ago, following a comment similar to yours, and I think some of that bears repeating here: It's not that we, in the suburbs, think you should abandon Jackson, because it's certainly your right to live wherever you want. I think it's more so just our incredulity that you would risk your and your family's property and lives for the convenience of living near "schools, church, work, friends or whatever" in Jackson! Now, I agree wholeheartedly that crime is possible anywhere; however, you and I differ in believing there's no difference in the PROBABILITY of it happening. If you genuinely believe the likelihood of being a victim of crime is the same in Madison or Rankin as it is in Jackson, then you're either just trying to convince people your decision to live in Jackson is sound or your delusional! Those are the only two possibilities from that position.

And please don't make the mistake of believing things are either going to get better in Jackson or that "they're not going to run me out of here," because it isn't, and they ARE. Time will bear me out on that!

The biggest problem in Jackson right now is that it's being "lead" by a culture that doesn't place any real value on an orderly society. Unfortunately, even if it were possible, there's not enough time to fix that way of thinking before Jackson goes completely down the tubes. I grew up there, lived most of my life there, and I hate that that's the city's future. But it is.

Enjoy your consequences and, for now, your delusions of ever getting it fixed.

10:15 seems pretty angry while accusing others of unhappiness.

Me thinks thou doth protest too much.

11:36 Then you won't mine be saying( according to your logic) that your problem is not minding your own business and to criticize those around you ( friends and family) who haven't convinced you to stop. It must (again using your logic) be a "cultural" problem in your family.

Or maybe you missed that crime is up 35% in the US.

Attn 10:15 I live in an exclusive gated Madison neighborhood. I pay a premium to live here. We have crime here also. An example, recently, a couple of hinds county people were stealing from unlocked cars. Even with the high tech video cameras, it still took two hours to identify, locate, and arrest them. Stay where you are if you want to.

10:15 -- Yes! Thank you!

11:36 -- You're still incredulous that people choose to live in Jackson? Still? The suburbs are really great and have many benefits, but they are not for everyone. People who live in Jackson are very frustrated by the crime and poor infrastructure, but there's so much more to Jackson than crime and infrastructure. Just a head's up: people will still choose to live in Jackson today, tomorrow, the next day, etc.

most murders in the metro seem to be domestic/gang/drug related. the morality of our society has followed the decline in regular church attendance. i’m glad i’ll not be around to see what happens in 10 years as i’m in my middle 80’s.

10:15 When the kids from NE Jxn get out of school and look back on their "encampments" they were raised in, they're probably gonna ask their folks why they did that.(Sorta like staying in an abusive ___?___.)

Of course, by that time, the parents will have finally moved on over to other areas nearer the kids. Sad but true.

10:15 and the "JA Raider Nation" have been in denial for almost 30 years.

Rankin and Madison County do have their share of crime ... ( however 99% is usually solved within 15 hours) ... but they always have water.

In the 80's is was speeding down McDowell and fighting. Now it's creeping around potholes and popping caps in sukahs and foo's.

Simply put, the Demographics in NE Jackson have changed. Because if this I will expect crime to get worse. Our current court system doesn’t sentence criminals to do Time, they get released, even repeat offenders, to continue. These judges are more worried about securing their reelection to the bench than Justice. Because of this, The police aren’t motivated to intervene in criminal activity. They are available to write up reports so you may file your losses with your insurance company.
Jackson is lost.

The spin coming out of the shrinking NEJax continues to amuse. "... but there's so much more to Jackson ..." LMAO. Like holding the bag?

12:09, 11:36 here. I read your nonsensical reply to my original post, and I think you may have misinterpreted what I said. I clearly stated that people can choose to live wherever they wish, but as is the purpose of the comment section here, I simply stated that it's hard to understand why people put up with it. It's just an observation of a phenomenon I find curious. Like 12:44 posted, for instance: there's an admission that crime and infrastructure is "very frustrating," but "there's so much more to Jackson than crime and infrastructure." From my perspective, they're inextricably intertwined. All the convenience, and work, etc. are of little importance if you lose the other things to crime or can't enjoy the restaurants, etc. due to infrastructure.

Look, I don't belittle on those who still live in Jackson. It's their decision alone to still live there. I just posted the comment that I can't figure out WHY they would (increasing crime [I submit a much higher increase than 35%], HORRIBLE roads, MUCH higher taxes, crumbling infrastructure, the option of only private schools, a drastically shrinking tax base, smaller and smaller "livable" areas of town each year, a "leadership" that HATES 15% of the population etc.)

Again, I grew up in Jackson, and it was a great place to live at one time. The problem is, it's not any longer, and there are no practical prospects for a turn around. Yes, there are still some bright spots in the city, but you must admit, they're becoming fewer with each passing year. Prudent people, it seems to me, would recognize that and choose not to ride it out to the very end. That's MY way of thinking, at least.......

Granted that Kingfish makes a living out of "Jackson v. Madison/Rankin," and I do want him to make a living out of something so he can continue his more serious work, but this sort of string more often than not verges on the absurd.

I'm a white male who lives in Jackson, and worries about crime, etc., but I love my neighborhood and my neighbors and have many longtime close friends here. But I also lived in Jackson during Jim Crow, and it was as bad as people of all colors have said it was, and worse. I see so much to be happy and proud of around here. We have some terrible problems, but was it not inevitable? Big change has consequences. It HAD to change, and there was no way it was going to go smoothly. The question is this: Are there enough people of good heart and good will to work things out to a reasonable degree? I say "Yes".

“...you aren’t very happy with, so you post on here to try and make others unhappy too.”

Ding, ding, ding.
You’ve accurately described the comment section of the majority of Internet blogs.

It doesn’t matter who you are or where you live in this world. If you’re living on the moon and someone wants you dead then your corpse will be found on the moon.

Kingfish,
Please include better descriptions in the future.
I need to know the race of everyone involved to know whether or not I should be outraged or indifferent.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
