Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
My team has secured several tankers tonight to provide non-potable water for the city of Jackson to help add pressure and jumpstart the water system and accelerate the fix. In addition, I have activated the National Guard to complete the mission, and they will arrive in the city early tomorrow. We will do everything we can to restore clean water (with water pressure) for the people of Jackson!

Tater must be tired of having to haul water in from Flowood to bathe in the crawfish pot at the Mansion.
Tater is a Jackson resident. He's saving his own a** just like he did in Rankin with his road to the mall.
You know what needs to happen to fix Jackson?
The state needs to take it over. Start with the water/sewer, move to the police, then do the rest of the City. Get rid of most of the judges. It would be unrecognizably better in 10 years.
He is doing what a governor is supposed to do, governance 101. And
Thank you sweet Jesus. And thank you Gov Reeves. Maybe the city council will stop acting like children and take notes from the Gov
"I love the smell of a fried pig ear sandwich in the morning."
Thank you Governor Reeves. Mississippians help each other regardless of where they may live. The infrastructure of Jackson is very aged and in poor condition. Major capital improvements are needed to bring it up to current standards to avoid these problems. The state legislature should assist the city with this project.
The state should take over all facets of Jackson.
And all it took was exposing him to be a chickenshit racist who wouldn't listen the pleas of an African-American mayor.
I think many of you who want the state to take over are also some of the ones who think the state is F*ed and everybody sucks. You can't have it both ways, Either Jackson needs to exercise its blackness out so the white overseers can come back or the jackbooted troopers under the command of Lord Reeves can come in and show you how it's done JSU style.
It will take more than a few tankers of potable water to save the city. But people keep forgetting that Tater went to Millsaps....
Water will be restored today without Tate.
Political play.....come in last minute and do little but take credit.
Mayor getting played.....
Jackson is only one of the municipalities the need and will guilt Mr. Reeves into throwing state monies at their issues. Where will it stop? Jackson city leaders cannot improve their own situation so as usual let's bring everyone down to ours. Looks like a slippery slope to me.
And all it took was exposing him to be a chickenshit racist who wouldn't listen the pleas of an African-American mayor.
Actually he waited until Antard was imploding which the presser to freak out over Stokes proved beyond all doubt.
Chapter 9 is the solution.
7:32 Not really. Jackson’s issues goes back to the 80s. Really simple ones but they complicate each other. Nothing unique but Jackson’s (and MS) population decline is going to delay a lot.
The city of Greenville is smaller than Jackson, but same problem exists with city water. There are Guard members all over the Delta.
The State shouldn’t spend a single penny on Jackson. The best thing for Jackson, and the State, is to let Jackson become its in ‘district of kush’ or whatever it is they want, and just let the State wash its hands of that City. That’s a win win for everyone.
Yeah 8:13 Blame it on Kane Ditto, because he was the last white mayor of Jackson.
A billion dollars here and a billion dollars there and it will be water under the bridge (along with a lot of greased palms).
11:15 So he shouldn't do it? Can't please some people
It doesn't matter if it's a car, a house, a stove, or a water and sewer system, it's a heck of a lot cheaper and easier to maintain something than it is to ignore it until it breaks, then have to dig it out of the ditch. Jackson leadership is too ignorant to realize this, and have neglected their infrastructure by diverting money to wasted causes and corruption for decades. Instead of actually running a city. You can't blame an ice storm on decades of mismanagement and waste.
Crickets when Dale Danks kicked the can down the road to Kane Ditto, who kicked the can down the road to Harvey Johnson. All the hoopla started with Johnson and white flight. Of course it’s bad that Melton, Yarborough, Lumumba Senior, and Junior have done zilch. Well Senior tried to address it with the tax increase, but who knows where that money is going.
What else was he supposed to do, relocate the capital?
Revisionist history to posit that white flight began only once Harvey Johnson became Mayor.
Revisionist history to posit that white flight began only once Harvey Johnson became Mayor.
The flight of easily the past 15+ years out of Jackson has been economic (middle class) and the changing demographics of the suburbs bear that out.
Robbing the special infrastructure tax to bail out ongoing operations and then refusing to pay back what was sold publicly as short-term loans is terrible optics.
99.9999% sure Mayor Greenhorn receives no more blank checks from the Legislature or Governor.
The animosity between State officials and City officials has got to stop. The State needs a thriving capitol city to attract new residents and businesses.
@ 9:04 I know your comments are sarcastic but with Jackson's unique positioning on the map it by default serves the cities that lie next to it with free infrastructure use, albiet in they are in separate counties. A logical solution to me would be to create an overlaying Metro district (similar to Nashville) and have all three parties (Hinds, Madison, Rankin) work together to improve conditions for the collective whole versus the nonsense that goes on now. I love MS but we don't do ourselves any favors and typically shoot both feet and one hand off before anything can be done. Madison would still be pasture if not for Jackson, but those that live there can't grasp that.
Move the Capitol.
12:17-I don't disagree with your suggested coalition, but answer this honestly...Do you really think Jackson would allow Madison and Rankin leaders to have a voice in this collective?
Or does Jackson just want silent partners who provide financial support and have no say in how the "improvements" are handled?
Trust me, I think all politicians are corrupt but Madison and Rankin officials at least maintain our infrastructure and keep us safe before they pad their pockets with our tax dollars.
And the fact that the Mayor and his ilk don't appear to be interested in learning how other counties continue to succeed tells me all I need to know about their willingness to listen to non-minorities in this proposed joint venture.
Stokes doesn’t want the state to take over because he will lose his kickbacks
The state does not have the ability for a take-over of Jackson.
However, the 82nd Airborne and the 3rd Marine Division would be a good start . . .
