Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba had enough of Ward 3 City Councilman Kenneth Stokes and punched him in the nose at a press conference this afternoon. This is probably the first time a Mayor stood up to the Ward 3 legend although all probably wanted to do so. Watch for yourself in the video posted below. Start at 3:30.
Mr. Stokes ripped into the Mayor at a City Council meeting this morning, complaining about the lack of water in his ward.

The only thing Stokes could attack is an all you can eat buffet
I watched the video. I never saw Kenny there, much less a punch in the nose. Of course the Mayor pretends ‘Act of God’ instead of being able to point out that he has systematically been replacing old water and sewer lines that everyone knows will fail when stressed. Because, as several mayors before him, he’s all about headlines and not about blocking and tackling. (I’m no fan of Kenny either. It’s pointless to debate who is more incompetent.)
I'm shocked to report that I agree with nearly everything Chokwe said. #endtimes
Interesting statement he made about not being able to get in touch with the governor. If true, not a good look for Tater either.
I am so glad that his "highest priority" is communications.
WTF? People want action (water), not bloviating. What an ass. At least his public works director has a PhD (piled higher and deeper).
Kennuth-the man, the myth, the legend!
The mayor says water tank trucks couldn't get into Jackson. A simple & inexpensive solution would have been for the city to stockpile bottled water during the last year. One sure thing about Jackson's winters is that they'll result in water problems - bottled water would go a long way towards helping most residents. The mayor constantly says he's helpless to fix the city's problems, the fact is, he's outright incompetent.

Not a good look? You've got to be joking. Like anybody in Jackson voted for Reeves in the first place. Give us a break. I live in Jackson and Reeves gets my vote all day long for blowing off this idiot Lumumba for whom the majority in this city was duped into believing could do the job despite having ZERO F'ING EXPERIENCE running anything beyond his mouth.
3:13 wins the internet today. What he said.
Was this punch in a dream?
Kenny getting his gloves on and will respond tomorrow.
"When contacted by 16 WAPT News, Stokes said he would respond during a news conference Wednesday."

"Act of God", God must love Rankin County, had lunch at a restaurant today. When did Rankin County have its last boil water notice?
" I'm shocked to report that I agree with nearly everything Chokwe said. "
Same here.
I actually understood what the Mayor was saying
It was refreshing to hear him say what was on his mind, rather than trying to impress the Left elites with words that even his own "people" can't understand.
Ten dollars says Kenny will respond before Sunday.
( And not in a positive manner)
Twenty dollars says Kennuth will be wearing his flimsy mesh STOKES ball cap.
Buy some popcorn, this is going to "be too good".
@3:13 - so Tater is governor of the state, but shouldn’t answer the phone for the mayor of the capital city in which he lives? I agree that Republican voters largely don’t care what happens to Jackson and many would probably rather see it burn to the ground, but as governor, he has a responsibility to care.
All the flag of Jackson needs are some grains added around the star (commies always put images of food on “crest”) and it will look just like the Flag of a Communist regime in Africa.
People who are not competent blame others. In this rant, the mayor (who is not fulfilling his duty), blamed (in order) God, the governor, and Stokes.
Nice try. We don't care how the watch works. We need the watch you are supposed to take care of.
I agree with the Mayor for calling Kennuf out. Whether you agree with it or not, the Mayor and the mayors before him inherited a crumbling city with crumbling infrastructure with a tax base that continues to leave.
Yes, this is a conglomeration of incompetents trying to tackle serious issues that are apparently way beyond their abilities. Yes, this continues to be a circus manned by publicity seekers instead of goal-setters and task-completers. And yes, the citizens of Jackson continue to vote these jokers in to office.
By the way, I'm from Rankin County and will NOT go into Jackson without a very good reason.
What a hypocrite!!! Everything this guy does is political. Didn’t he refuse to even acknowledge the President of the United States when he came to Jackson. Maybe if he had been cordial Donald would have done something to help the City of Soul. He is a carbon copy of the deceitful arrogance of Obama. I imagine there is a very good reason the governor doesn’t play ball with this guy.
I hope the citizens of Jackson won’t buy into this bullshit!
Geez... failed infrastructure is NOT an act of God.
I love how he’s making this a communication issue when he’s the KING of self-absorbed press conferences and letters. I’m curious to know how often he reaches out to the Council to discuss issues before he acts. He admitted himself he won’t make ANY effort (tit for tat) to speak to Stokes. (I don’t much blame him, but don’t say it’s a communication failure and follow that up with you make no effort yourself.)
Why does he need Stokes to help the people of Ward 3? Why not just help them and leave the buffoon out of it?
Stokes is acting EXACTLY how Stokes always acts... and acted WAY before Drake took office. How many in Stokes’ ward BRAGGED about free water for years? This is what happens when you contribute ZERO to your community and tax base.
Oh, look two loud mouth butt wipes on the news.
I thinks is he lying about not being able to reach the Governor.
Antard better be careful. His African sounding name doesn’t give him any street cred. Big Stroke might just start calling him Taliaferro and reminding everyone that his complexion is closer to khaki than Kenny’s own rich mahogany.
2:39, nice attempt at a spin, but it fails to anyone who actually listened to what he said.
He never said he anything about "not being able to get in touch with the Governor".
What he actually said was that he tried to contact the Governor's Chief of Staff, who was out of state dealing with a family issue. He didn't say that he attempted to contact the Governor, or after failing to reach COS White he tried to do anything else.
He also said that if he had talked with the Govenror, it would have been only to let them know what was happening. He also said his staff (not him) was working with MEMA, which is the process that would be followed if there was any state involvement required for the City's failures.
Stokes is right. There hasn’t been a water drop off site in his ward.
Stokes lives in Ward 3. He is in touch with his constituents. He listens to them.
All any commentator on this blog wants is for the mayor of Jackson to step up and get something done. Pick one-reduce crime, fix the roads, fix the water, something! All of the burbs don’t have a problem doing any of those. And the latest crime reports show that most of the safest communities in the entire state are surrounding Jackson.
I was really hoping to see an actual punch in the nose.
Not sure about water drop-off in Ward 3, but I agree with everything else said at 5:56(2). Listening to someone talk, and talk, and talk, and not do anything gets real old.
The mayor is incompetent. But Stokes is the biggest clown in the history of that city. The first step to turning Jackson around would be to get rid of Stokes.
Kenny having a news conference in the morning at 10:00!
The city of Jackson provides water to Nissan in Canton. That’s not happening right now obviously.
Just when you think it's impossible for this youth to sound any more arrogant and elitist. That's 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
It's been clear from the beginning that Antard is incompetent as a "leader", but it's becoming painfully clear that he's also incompetent as a politician. When your constituents are mad and frustrated and looking for help, they damn sure don't want a lecture on how "a storm is an an act of God" (as if that absolves "leaders" of their responsibility for planning, amelioration, and timely recovery). I live in Jackson, I spent the week before last preparing for this storm because I KNEW water mains would fail. Stockpiled drinking water, gas, and propane, flushing water, prepped spigots and pipes, etc. etc. The mayor appears to have just... shrugged. Little response at all until people had been without water for nearly a full week.
People don't want excuses. They want action, and they want results. The mayor seems to think a good excuse is enough. He's wrong.
Stokes gets under my skin too, but he has a well established and loyal base. Antard is picking the wrong person to spar with here, especially since he has no accomplishments of his own to stand on. If he's reelected, it will be due to lack credible/funded opposition, NOT on his merits. He is a an arrogant young fool and needs to be replaced.
"When contacted by 16 WAPT News, Stokes said he would respond during a news conference Wednesday."
I won ten dollars ! ! !
The war between Stokes and Antar has started.
(This should be better than the second season of "Game of Thrones").
"Couldn't get in touch with the Governor">
Is that the same Governor that the always talking, never doing, Mayor was on the steps of the Capitol six months ago calling out as a racist and being in essence a member of the KKK?
Hell, if I were that Governor, it would be a colder day in hell (it was pretty damn cold and Jackson in normal conditions is pretty much hell) before I returned his phone calls anyway.
And Im sure the Governor has a lot of other problems on his plate - across the entire state, for which he actually does have some responsibility for - than to take a prefunctory phone call just "to be updated on the situation".
Jackson may be the CAPITOL city, but it is not the only city, or county, in the state that was having issues this past week - and the Governor's job is not to be at the beck and call of a Mayor who's only interest is a hand out for money and assistance, but not cooperation on anything at all. Lumumba's way is a one way street. Maybe that's why his phone calls are a one way call.
A few months back, Kenneth I Stokes was protesting outside the Governors mansion because, as he said, "the mayor and city council are not competent to deal with the water/sewer problems in Jackson and the Governor needs to take over." I quite agree with Mr. Stokes. Also the Governor should take over the Jackson Public Schools.
With the Governor's Mansion being in Jackson, couldn't Antar just go knock on his door? Or have his water turned off (assuming that it's on) to get his attention?
I can't wait to hear Big Swole's response to lying Mayor Windbag tomorrow! It's gonna be epic!
8:16 keep up. Tater lives and thrives in NIKNAR, not downtown.
Jackson's water infrastructure is like the national debt. There simply is not enough money to fix it. Jackson can't operate day-to-day and fix it with a declining population and tax base. The captain of the Titanic had a better chance than a mayor of this place.
Did Mayor Choc really punch Kenneth Stokes in the nose? Time for new leadership! The failing infrastructure in the city, crime among other issues is the best example of new leadership needed. Policeman on videos recently showing domestic violence along with city council members must be held to a higher standard as following the law!
Talk talk talk talk talk. This guy blamed everyone but his mama.
@652 pm—take a ride down I-55 to the Nissan Plant and look at that big ole water tower next door. Those big letters say CMU. Nissan would have never come to Madison County if it depended on Jackson for any services. And BTW they are not in the city of Canton.
For years the city of Jackson used the high tax base in Northeast Jackson to subsidize the rest of the city, as that was where so many professionals (doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc.) lived. That tax base is largely gone, or certainly diminished, as administration after administration alienated the upper middle class, with this administration being the worst of all.
No one wants to live in a city where hoodlums can shut down an interstate and do donuts for a half hour while livestreaming on social media and get away with it because of a no chase policy.
No one wants to live in a city where murder rates skyrocket and the mayor dismisses it as an uptick in crime.
No one wants to live in a city where the leadership ignores the infrastructure while touting "the most radical city in America", then whines when the water system completely collapses.
Congratulations, Baby Chok, you got your justice by pushing the last of the oppressors out. Happy?
Jackson supplies water to Nissan, with Bear Creek as a backup.
I am not sure if CMU can also tie in.
WHERE IS THE PUNCH?????????????????????? DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!
@8:45 AM, all the while the Mayor lives in the whitest (and wealthiest) remaining part of the city in a 4000+ sq ft mansion safely ensconced behind an 8' private gate.
Meet the new oppressor, same as the old oppressor.
Chuckie Jr. got elected but Stokes has an actual constituency and it is not solely confined within the boundaries of his ward.
This is exactly what Stokes wanted. Good press. Bad Press. Doesn't matter. Stokes just wants to be on TV, and the mayor just put this fight on the map.
Let's get Ready to Rumble !!!!!!
3:52 nailed it:
"Ten dollars says Kenny will respond before Sunday.
( And not in a positive manner)
Twenty dollars says Kennuth will be wearing his flimsy mesh STOKES ball cap."
Too bad no one took you up on your bets.
"No one wants to live in a city where hoodlums can shut down an interstate and do donuts for a half hour while livestreaming on social media and get away with it because of a no chase policy."
I'm wondering why there haven't been a bunch of arrests by JPD on this incident. Surely there's plenty of evidence via social media.
@8:21 I'm sorry but you are wrong. There is a large waterline that leaves OB Curtis plant in NE Jackson and runs through Ridgeland, Madison, and Gluckstadt all the way to the Nissan water tank. So Nissan normally uses water from the city of Jackson. That is fact. The line is owned by the State of Mississippi. PRVWSD handles the operation and maintenance of the pipeline.
Jackson sells the water to the state, then the state sells it to CMU, then CMU sells it to Nissan. But the water used in the Nissan plant comes from the OB Curtis Treatment plant. That is fact.

I'm glad an expert has shared some wisdom.
Questions:
Since we're on the water topic, is there really a pipe from the Rez to fill up Lake Hico ?
Can you confirm or deny if there are explosives buried under the Rez spillway in the event
of another 79' flood ?
Dale Danks laughed out loud at Bert Case when asked about said explosives.
Years later, Frank Melton refused to answer the same question.
Frank only mumbled something about a local gang moving into the Presidential Hills subdivision.
I’m the poster who is an “expert who shared some wisdom.” It is a fact that Nissan drinks/uses water from OB Curtis.
I have no clue about Lake Hico or explosives in the spillway. I’m the wrong person to ask.
