SO irresponsible! Expect another spike in cases and fatalities in a few weeks, stay home to protect everybody!

Anonymous said...

@ 12:38 - No. You stay home and protect yourself if you feel so inclined.

Anonymous said...

Sad for (most of) the people whored out , I mean employed by these places. Fuck science!

Anonymous said...

Primos in Flowood is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Anonymous said...

@12:38, stop it. It is not your responsibility to make sure every body is saved. Can I get an Amen!. Ima gonna repeat if for ya holier than thou self, it ain't yo resposabilitay to make sure everybody is saved. Can I get an Amen!

Anonymous said...

@1257, thanks for looking out for me, but I think I can handle it from here.

Anonymous said...

They won't be getting anything from me until there is a Vaccine. I could care less if any of them go out of business. That's the chance you take when you make any investment.

Anonymous said...

We're in the middle of an experiment and human lives are the bargaining chips. If everyone follows the guidelines then hopefully we won't see an explosion of new cases. However, given the average Mississippian's inability to abide by the restrictions so far I have my doubts they will do any differently this time around.

Here's the million dollar question. What happens if we see rapid growth of cases in a month? If we suddenly see hospitalizations increase from 400 to 600 do we then rein things back in or do we let it continue until the medical system is overwhelmed?

According to Tate he is depending on the responsibility of Mississippians to act prudently. I'm betting many inevitably act like a bunch of high-school rednecks or back-alley thugs and refuse to do anything to keep things controlled. When they show they are not worthy of being trusted will our officials then step in to ensure they don't cause another epidemic?

I'm not against opening up restaurants as long as it can be done without causing uncontrolled community spread. I'm just concerned there isn't a plan in place for what to do if it does, or that plan is being deliberately hidden to give people a false sense of security.

Damn, I thought for sure the Dutch Bar would have been on that list.....

Anonymous said...

@12:38
I can assure you that your weakening your immune system by staying in. Look at the countries that practiced herd immunity... only reason we stayed in was to not overwhelm hospitals and not to protect people. Jesus... you are a moron. Our hospital had 4 COVID patients... a spike? Well by that logic go buy a bubble. We have no vaccine for flu yet people go out. We have vaccines for very few viruses.

Anonymous said...

1:08 .....Its' called "The Great Commission".

Anonymous said...

@1:24 We do have a vaccine for the flu. It might not be 100% effective but it is available every year and does cut down on the number and severity of cases.

Please list the deadly infectious viral diseases we don't have a vaccine for. HIV and Ebola are the only two that come to mind. SARS & MERS were under development but died out before human trials could be completed. The common cold is caused by a variety of viruses and isn't serious enough to justify the expense to develop a vaccine.

On the other hand, we have vaccines for polio, smallpox, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis, diphtheria, HPV, and viral meningitis. Sounds like we can prevent many more serious diseases than we can't.

Anonymous said...

So irresponsible-----Said every government employee sitting at home earning the same paycheck you earned last February, I hope this s#&t never ends. Woo Hoo. Go Corona

Anonymous said...

"We have no vaccine for flu yet people go out."

Bullshit. We've had flu vaccines for at least 25 - 30 years.

Anonymous said...

@12:57
You are either a troll or clueless.. Look at Sweden nearly reached herd immunity look at Belarus as well as some South American coutries... imperial college the model used to show how bad this can be has now been proven a false model. Us physicians are the ones hosed. Keep hospitals empty in case... well now you want to stay inside until a vaccine ? We have no vaccine for flu also we have no vaccine for majority of viruses... we have vaccines for only a small amount. Americans immune systems are generally weaker due to over sanitary environments. Get a hold of yourself. Science? Science proves your worse off staying inside. Funny how people have no medical or research background and say the word science. Tell me some more science.

Anonymous said...

Staying in did NOT work in NY. 2/3 of the patients had STAYED AT HOME.

Anonymous said...

We have vaccines for FEW viruses?? WTF.

The list is longer for viruses than for bacteria, son. We have polio, rubella, mumps, measles, rabies, HPV, vaccines etc etc etc.

Where do the non science types come up with this derp?

We have NO vaccine for flu???? What planet are you on? We had up to 100 MILLION dead from the 1918 flu pandemic. Have you heard about that? Heard about the flu vaccination program? Interested in living and helping others live from the Fall's Second Wave coming? Get a flu shot, Hoss.

Buy a bubble? Hey, suggestion, learn to read first and then buy that first book. Say, "The Great Influenza," or "The Plague," or "Bring Out Your Dead." Killer works.

About real killers, and not Fatty the Clown the FreeDumb Fighter with an AR toy.

@1:38 Your source for Sweden achieving herd immunity? According to https://covid19-projections.com/sweden Sweden has 4.5% total infection rate which is nowhere near the 60% - 75% needed to grant herd immunity. Sweden may not be experiencing the level of infections and deaths as other countries, but it isn't because of herd immunity.

@12:57 I’m sad for you that your vocabulary is so limited you have to resort to vulgar language to make a point.

I just want to go stuffit at the buffit at Ichiban Chinese Buffet. Mister Panda Pants voice has been in my head for weeks now!

Anonymous said...

@1:37 - Yes them and the employees making more by staying home on UI than they do by actually working. The only people who aren't concerned about the economic havoc this is causing are the ones who aren't personally economically hit by it - or fear the long term consequences of staying shut. Businesses have to open up sometime. Some of us actually take pride in earning our own living.

Anonymous said...

We will continue to order take-out food only. I don't want restaurants to fail but I can read, listen to medical experts instead of internet trolls and politicians, and wear a damned mask even if it is not 100% efficient in protecting us from coronavirus because it is better than nothing. The great fallacy of reopening everything as your economic or social salvation is that people like us will not be participating very much in the "economy" - but all you yahoos go right ahead and do whatever you want. Pick your teeth and nose while grocery shopping at WalMart, rant about your "constitutional rights" (LOL), cough all over each other at church, and call the rest of us wimps.

Who is giving you the info that Sweden has used a good model? Seriously, I've never seen bs so easily exposed.

Nothing in life is without risk. You take a risk by getting out and driving your car. In any other year you take a risk going into a store or a restaurant when the flu is going around. What did you do when the bad swine flu was going around a few years ago? Nothing shut down then, people died from it, same with just regular flu. If you feel like you should stay home then stay home. It’s time to get back to normal. Eat healthy and well balanced meals, get sunshine for vitamin D (boosts the immune system) and exercise. There may not be a vaccine for a long time. What if there is never a vaccine? They never developed one for HIV. Life must go on. Oh, and turn off the TV.

Anonymous said...

@1:23 If you ever drank at the Dutch Bar you are immune to the virus. I miss that place.

Anonymous said...

I’m with @2:39. The stay-at-home order was an effort to slow the curve, wasn’t it? Haven't we done that? If you look at the actual graphs put out by the CDC isn’t the shaded area under both curves about the same area? One’s just really tall but short in time; and the other is short in concurrently sick but drawn out over a lengthy time. Isn’t that exactly what we’re doing? Or, did the CDC actually mean for the Total Economy of the United States to cease for 18 months until a vaccine could be developed.

H1N1 infected 60 million Americans and caused 12,500 deaths during the entire year it was active. It had a mortality rate of 0.02%.

COVID is estimated to have a mortality rate of around 0.5% and has already killed 75,000 people in just over two months even with the aggressive mitigation.

They are in not comparable. COVID has a mortality rate 25 times higher than H1N1 and would result in 300,000 deaths if it gets to the same penetration as H1N1 did. It is very likely to exceed that without mitigation as it is more contagious as well.

Just a few with no vaccines..
Malaria, schistosomiasis, cylomegalovirus
Dengue
Hookworm disease...

I wonder how attitudes would change if everything was shut down except gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies and medical. No retail or service at all. No restaurants. Not even take out. Interesting to consider if people would band together to beat the virus or band together in defiance of the government. The way its been for 2 months is like the police walking up on 100 people shooting firearms into the air and arresting 3 of them while advising the rest to just be careful.

Anonymous said...

1:21, so you've placed absolute trust in a model and plan developed by the government - mmmmmmkay! How do you know that if we follow a bunch of poorly reasoned rules conjured out of thin air that we will avoid a mass outbreak? I'm sure you read that in New York 60% of the cases came from folks who were "quarantined."

Anonymous said...

@3:07
Your premature in your death rate claims for COVID... until ample mass testing happens no one knows the true death rate. Many people have had COVID and assumed it was flu or cold. If your medical or science based in your field you would know many many people have recovered and aren't on record. Don't be a news watcher and claim you know anything. My guess will be it's more along the same rate as H1N1... too many people have recovered and were asymptomatic.

Anonymous said...

@3:14 Malaria, schistosomiasis, and hookworms are all parasites, not viruses.

Cytomegalovirus has a very, very low mortality rate except for people on immunosuppressive drugs for organ transplants. The study I found said there were 777 deaths over a 17 year period with a mortality rate of 0.0017%. Even though it infects 80%-90% of the population is just isn't serious. It's like the chickenpox.

I'll give you Dengue even though it has a mortality rate of only 0.01%. Because it is so widespread it still causes 40,000 deaths worldwide.

There are only two possibilities: either he just pretends to be a physician or he is a dangerously incompetent one. May you please reveal your identity, 1:38? I would like to avoid ever coming close to you. Maybe the powers in place should also look into revoking your license.

Scary...

Anonymous said...

@3:46 There is no way possible COVID has the same rate as H1N1. COVID has already killed 6.25 times more people than H1N1 did when it infected 60,000,000 people. In order to get the same mortality rate COVID would have already needed to infect 375,000,000 people and that exceeds the entire population of the United States.

Are you seriously suggesting every American has already been infected, or are you pulling numbers out of a hat? At least I try to show my sources.

I had a late lunch at Primos in Flowood, and they were doing a brisk sit-down business. An employee sprayed my hands with sanitizer when I walked in, all employees were masked and gloved, and customers were observing social distancing.

My lunch of turkey and dressing, black-eyed peas, and fried green tomatoes was great - all in all, a very nice experience.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Again slow the curve never did we say no more virus before we slowly start back sounds like Primo s others are opening every responsibly. Lets keep it up. If we get a huge spike the "I told you so's " will pull a muscle patting themselves on the back

For those of you talking about the number of COVID deaths, can you please be specific in detailing the criteria for a death to be classified as a COVID death? Then, will you please detail the criteria for a death to be classified as an influenza death? Are these criteria the same and is the infection the primary cause of death or a potential factor in the death for it to be classified as a COVID or influenza death? Is there additional money in terms of reimbursement for a COVID case? I don't know the answer but am curious and I know that many of you follow this minute by minute.

"Even though it infects 80%-90% of the population is just isn't serious."

Cytomegalovirus causes some major birth defects when a pregnant woman gets infected.

Anonymous said...

@7:35 That is a rare occurrence. Yes it is very serious to the individual, but the extremely small number of cases makes it an issue that would never justify a vaccine and doesn’t threaten a significant number of people. Nice to see you are placing a greater emphasis on each life though.

Anonymous said...

I'm old now and sometimes my memory plays tricks on me, but my belief is (When I took virology during graduate school) was that Dengue has no vaccine because it is a poor folks (third world) ailment. Dr. McCamish said what the world needed was for Dengue to happen in first world countries, because then a vaccine would be developed. Until then, there was not enough money in the vaccine to influence the pharmaceutical companies into developing one. Not long after virology, I went to work as a scientist for a major pharmaceutical company, as quickly discovered she was correct.

By the way, my favorite disease still is Tsutsugamuchi Fever. Horrible disease Africans get when from mite bites.

Anonymous said...

Well, to be honest with all of you, if it took a global pandemic to get the good folk of Jackson to start talking about bringing the Dutch Bar and the Cherokee Inn back into existence, all this bullshit might be worth it in the long run.

"doesn’t threaten a significant number of people"

Do you have any idea how many women give birth every year? Are any of them immune from getting infected with CMV while pregnant?

Would you like to adopt a baby devastated by congenital CMV infection?

We routinely screen newborns for diseases as rare as, or more rare then, CMV infection. We can invest in vaccine research.

Sal and Phil’s opened on Thursday

I was looking at mortality rates and didn’t fully consider the other results. Still, there are a lot of viral diseases that have a vaccine which should give us hope one of them under trial will work and we should continue reasonable mitigation until we do all we can to get one.

Well, here comes the Catch-22.
If you had a job at these places and don't return to work, you can be fired. When you are fired, you aren't eligible for unemployment or compensation.

This will reduce the amounts of government compensation dramatically. I suspect this is a major reason for pushing reopening from some politicians.

That said, my concern is for those in the kitchens. With limited menus or " specials", safety has been doable. I've not been concerned about ordering from restaurants doing that.

Anonymous said...

Two Rivers is open. I'm going tonight. I spent enough time in the Dutch Bar. Nothing can live in my body. Damn, I miss that place.

Anonymous said...

8:05 am, I hope so as well. Sadly, this is not like other viruses that were pandemic. It is not appearing to be seasonal and it mutates and gets stronger.

You can only have a livelihood if you are alive. And, the skilled workers needed in an economy die and ( as you can see), so do the health care workers and first responders.

I understand the tragedy of losing a business in a pandemic. My father lost his in '58. But, because he had been good at that, and paid his debts ( albeit slowly) banks were willing to refinance him in time and he recovered. I have been rich and poor and rich is more comfortable, but I learned more while poor about " the real world" most live in.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
