Did State Representative Doug McLeod beat his wife? The Sun-Herald obtained bodycam footage of the arrest of McLeod for domestic violence charges last year. George County deputies. A Justice Court Judge acquitted him after his wife testified he did not hit her. The video is posted below.
The police report stated his wife's face was covered with blood. Earlier post.

MR. SPEAKER!!!! MR. SPEAKER!!!!! POINT OF ORDER!!!!!
she testified that he didnt beat her. a good "R" would never do that!
She deserves whatever she gets from this point forward....This shows what money and Republican politics can do for a wife beater. And the cop who let him go back into the house with guns and the victim in the house!?!? WTF? That would never happen if it wasn’t for who he is.
This video make me SICK. Mr. McLeod makes me sick and the fact that his wife recanted her story and acted like it was all a misunderstanding makes me SICK. People like Mr. McLeod will continue to act this way because they’ve never been adequately disciplined for their actions. Victims of domestic violence and the people of Mississippi deserve to have someone better than this piece of garbage taking up space in the House of Representatives. STEP DOWN NOW MR. MCLEOD.
Rumor has it Mr. McLeod has been making his rounds in Jackson at all the popular watering holes. Clearly his drinking habit is going strong.
It is hard to believe that this police officer acted in this manner. For his own safety & the protection of the public, he needs to be terminated from the police department. If he is a graduate of a law enforcement academy, the academy needs to be shuttered.
If one will observe a courtroom building, it is a hangout for LEOs. One may call it the good ole buddy situation. This is one reason one will rarely get a fair trial in our judicial system.
To the Members of the House of Representatives: you don’t have a hair on your nutsack if you don’t have a domestic violence bill dropped and ask McLeod to co-sponsor it.
Nothing good comes from alcohol.
That would never happen if it wasn’t for who he is.
BS. Happens all the time and far too often. Has NOTHING to do with money and Republican politics.
You can resume your rope sanding now.

Really? Name the watering holes.
DV/DD calls are among the most dangerous calls an officer can respond to, and the officer should not have allowed him go back into the house, especially when he knows the offender has firearms, is intoxicated and has been reported to have already committed a violent act.
I'm disappointed, but not surprised that special arrangements are discussed over an open channel for this POS. He will beat his wife again, probably worse than this time, and she will make excuses for him, and at some point one of them will wind up dead during one of these altercations.
The officer let him go back inside! What the fu-k, what a dumb ass! The good Christian Legislators should take a bat to Mr McCloud’s sorry ass.
Beating women usually compensates the shortcomings between his legs. I’ll see Mrs McCloud on the TV show Snapped!
This young officer is lucky to be alive. He's also lucky that the victim is still alive. I hope and pray that he will get the training he needs to protect himself, his fellow officers, and the public he serves. As for Mr. McCloud, he should step down from office immediately. Most likely he will not. He's a member of a club at the state capitol who will cover for one another and never publicly admonish a fellow member, no matter how severe the offense. Every member who sits on there hands and does not speak out against this wife beater is no better than he is. This is probably not the first time for this poor lady nor will it be the last.
Let's see who at the capitol stands with the Speaker and calls for McCloud to step down immediately.
Crickets....
The is the most stupid P.O. I have ever seen.
The dispatcher can also be let go.
This tape should be used for MIS-training at every dispatch/P.O. training in the state and country.
It was an accident so bad she was scared to open the bedroom door and come down to talk to the deputies...
They been getting away with worse for years. Don't act surprised.
This happens more than people think in every jurisdiction. Victim calls cop. Cop responds and makes arrest. Trial comes around and victim charges story. This is often why you see plea deals that make no sense or dropped/remanded charges. When it happens in Hinds County we just blame the judges/da not knowing its impossible to get a conviction if victim/witnesses will not cooperate at trial time.
Husbands must remember the "rule of thumb" when correcting their wives.
What a POS! I'm sure he won't even have an opponent the next time he runs because everyone is probably to scared to run against him!
to 7:24........... the most popular legislative watering hole is located within ticos. its called the locker room. dont expect to drop in unannounced. its well hidden. you got to go behind the bar, through the door to the kitchen , and down the hall way to the right. don't forget the secret knock. its run by the lobbyists for the benefit of the legislators, and its where the legislature reconvenes shortly after adjourning at the capitol. admission is by invitation only. as the old song goes they are all back there 'drinking bourbon whiskey and smoking fine cigars'. so when you are seated in the bar and continually see fat, loudmouth, good ole boys walking through the kitchen door , who obviously are not employees, you will know the lobbyists got a big party going back their for their 'customers'. mr squeaky clean wanna be attorney general mark baker from 'no drankin in rankin' is a frequent flyer.
LOL @ 8:49. Anyone with a large group can rent the locker room. I've been there for a many of birthday parties, during legislative session, with people not connected to politics. Sure, people may rent it and invite politicians, but there is no secret knock. And anyone with a decent enough party of paying customers can rent it.
Until about 2005 or so, there was a 1994 law on the books that said that in Mississippi, if there is a call for domestic violence, at least one person at the site must go to jail for the night. It was meant to provide a cooling-off period (or sometimes, a sobering-up period) to prevent the angry spouse from taking it out on the other spouse after the cops left. It likely saved numerous lives while it was on the books. Eventually, the Sheriffs Association got it repealed.
I don’t think anyone would be too upset if this Thug POS was locked up so why does the court feel the need to protect pieces of shit like this? I get that he’s probably got a bunch of powerful piece of shit buddies who probably threatened the judge, but at some point there has to be consequences even for Republicans. He made his choices and will burn for them and so will the scum that protects him.
to 9:29.......no secret knock?..........you are obviously not a lobbyist or a legislator.
I'm struck by the unreliability of the body-cam. It focuses forever on walls and end tables and such. Where the hell is this camera pointed for God's sake? Aren't these cameras positioned so as to capture images of crimes or people or activities, rather than the damned front porch wall for three minutes? And there's no way the officer was looking in the direction projected by the camera. I assume the only purpose of these cameras in the first place is to grease the skids in a court of law. If that's the intent of a body-cam, this is pitiful.
And, yes, when the suspect said wait a minute, re-entered the house and pushed the door closed in the face of the officer, that was time to grab the cuffs. WTF kind of training has this guy attended?
I don't understand why the address was edited out when it's publicly available on the Legislature's web site.
I think his wife would have gotten more protection if she had called Domino’s instead of 911. This cop wasn’t interested in her protection or safety, nor was the dispatch. Disturbing that a battered wife can’t get protection or safe space calling 911. No wonder she won’t testify.
I agree with comments above that this LEO needs to go back to the academy. Or get his ass kicked by his spouse and be so intimidated that he can’t report it.
Gunn was real quick to defend this goob, pointing out the three reasons this can't rise to the level of House action. A little TOO quick in my estimation.
@5;21-you’re right. Gunn will do almost anything to protect his lap dogs that will help keep those pesky smart retired school teachers and former elected officials from having a seat in the “House that Represents” the people of this state. Study the district he represents and compare the thousands of PERS retirees—just a matter of time he can hangout with Smith, Snowden, The Funeral Director Holland, and not to be forgotten Brad Dye—arrogance has a way of paying back!
