Arkel Coleman, the killer of Erick Hambrick, will go free in May 2022. Coleman will not even serve ten years for Hambrick's murder at the Waffle House on High Street in 2015.
Mr. Hambrick was an employee at MEMA. He was a talented singer as he performed in the Mississippi Opera and in the choir at First Baptist Church (Jackson). He attended Thursday night choir practice on May 28, 2015. He unfortunately stopped at the Waffle House on High Street at 10:30 PM. The 19 year-old Arkel Coleman thought the 52 year-old man would be easy prey and beat him with his fists. Mr. Hambrick fell to the ground and sustained more injuries when his head violently struck the pavement. His family removed him from life support a few days later. Arkel Coleman and his accomplice, Sherderwick Anderson, removed a ring that they fancied from a dying Eric Hembrick's finger. Police arrested the pair within a few days.
Arkel Coleman |
Judge Tomie Green reviewed the case and blessed Coleman. She sentenced him to serve fifteen years in prison but suspended five years of the sentence. She ordered him to take an anger management class and enroll in a GED class. She naturally gave him credit for time served in prison. Thus the amount of time he will serve in prison after conviction is less than nine years. MDOC records state he will be released on May 30, 2025 - ten years to the day when Eric Hambrick died. Keep in mind that Shamsid-dunce once clerked for Judge Green.
The MDOC website states Coleman will be released on May 22, 2022, a little less than ten years after he was murdered. He will be almost thirty years old upon release, still in the prime of his life and able to kill again.
Eric Hambrick |
This post probably angered some social justice warriors but who stands up for Eric Hambrick? Rachel James-Terry will raise hell on the pages of the Clarion-Ledger about a Dallas cop only getting ten years but when this happens in her own back yard, well, figure it out. Cliff Johnson probably doesn't see anything wrong with this case. Empower Mississippi? Well, such cases don't matter in the ivory tower as they try to put more criminals on the street while ignoring murder cases such as this one. Cases such as this one don't fit into the politics of those mentioned as Mr. Hambrick was unkind enough to volunteer for murder by this thug. Such victims are ignored in social justice society.
The victim once commented on this website in an old post about the disappearing Christmas lights displays in the Whispering Pines subdivision:
May he rest in peace.

Apparently those in charge of the justice system there are just as sub-human as the criminals. Hopefully the next victim will be a little better prepared.
9:29 AM, just lazy and yellow-bellied. He was chicken-sh*t to not go for 1st degree. Settled for an easy sentencing instead.
Can we place bets on when he gets arrested post release for victimizing someone else in Jackson? Will he back in jail before the zoo reopens?
Let’s hope that this person has “seen the light” and uses his freedom as a beacon of change. It does happen.
@10:24 When he gets out you should meet him at the Waffle House and fill us in on if you think that's happened or if it was a terrible mistake.
Many of the ADAs in Hinds County don't live in Hinds County, so they don't have to live with the consequences of their decisions. They live Madison County where they can drive home to relative safety after making gutless sentencing recommendations and decisions to reduce charges. Until something is done about this, nothing will change, not even with the new DA. The ADAs need some "skin" in the game. Maybe then they will step up and do the right thing.
10:24. 10:04 again. I was being optimistic. None of us know anything about how he's spent his time in the slammer. Chances are he's going to end up back there. So, no I wouldn't like to meet him. But I do hope that any prisoner released can turn their life around.
We should all want our prisons to be places of reform and not simply containment.
This is a travesty. White lives matter.
I'd like to see the 'boy' fry, just for beating and robbing the man of his ring; however, that's not the law. I'm sure the reason he was allowed to plead to manslaughter is that testimony convinced the court that Hambrick died as a result of hitting his head against the concrete, which allowed the 'boy' to escape first degree.
On the other hand, if the 'boy' had shot the man and then robbed him and the man later died, would that not be first degree murder in the commission of a crime which would elevate to capital?
What if the races were reversed and the 'boy' who beat a black man, who later died, had been white? I doubt he would have gotten 'the blessing' and short-time.
But, since I'm no lawyer, I'll defer to those who are.
And anyone wonders why Jackson is doomed when stories like this are standard operating procedure?
Ever heard of felony murder?
That's what happens when the DA is a drug addict.
Perfect candidate to work somewhere in the Antar Lumumba administration.
Jody Owens is a complete idiot. No experience nor does he have any knowledge of law.
Fact that he clerked for her is irrelevant. Some counties over sentenced. Some undersentence. What Mississippi needs is sentencing guidelconines to help give us some consistency
@11:42 you do know that Owens didn’t have anything to do with this particular case...right?
It is a travesty and all lives matter
@ 10;04 and 10:34. Um are you serious? Have you not heard what is happening in our prisons in MS? Does it REALLY sound like we are reforming people in there? They enter prison as murders and rapists (a product of their environment and upbringing) with no accountability for their evil deeds, no desire to do what is right (perhaps don't even know what is right) as victims of the corrupt political environment in Jackson, uneducated, from broken homes, with total disrespect for the law and all authority and you think that is all going to get fixed while they are in prison? Give me a break.
12:33. just look at the pastor that prayed for gov reeves at the inauguration. he was in parchman...and he’s reformed. grow up and stop being a snowflake. people change. and that can even happen in prison right here in mississippi.
Let every white person that sets foot in Jackson take note. Your life is worth little.
Its they turn now.
Maybe there will be someone spending their time in prison who is tougher than Mr. Coleman who decides he needs an occasional beating, just because.
I guess that sounds bad, but bad things happen all the time, just not always to folks who deserve them.
Your right I remember when white folks got off just like this.
Jackson isn't doomed. You simply have to be willing to fight to the death if you want to live here. Maybe some of you guys living in the Green Zone should join in. You might just feel like you have a reason for living.
This is not a surprise, years ago two black males were killed on Hanging Moss in Jackson Ms. There were three individuals involved all were charged with accessory after the fact, One subject served four years in the Raymond Detention Center the others were released with less time than that, Thanks to the Hinds County System. I want get into the drug cases there's only been two maybe three drug cases gone to trial in the last TEN YEARS tops. Go figure
10:04 - that's what you hope for, but not me. I hope he get's what he deserves, if not in this life then in the one hereafter.
Another example of a culture in a death spiral.
We are so lucky to have leadership like Americans for Prosperity, Empower MS and thank God for the right thinking people of Madison for electing these groups favorite legislator, Joel Bomgar. We are truly blessed. LOL
Ex Con says:
Only two things you can do in prison, get better or get worse.
10:04 Hope when this guy gets out & does something like this again, he'll finally "see-the-light(flash)" coming out of the barrel right in his face.
Welcome to Jackson. A liberal's paradise!
I think 3:35 said it best.
Mofo's like this are why I don't give a shit about prison conditions.
@12:06pm, I was going to say the same thing. But, in 11:42's defense, Jody Owens is worthless. And a hypocrite who sends his kids to private school while fighting against charter schools. He was groomed in private schools and now sees that his bread is best buttered as a race pimp like those before him.
Jody attended Terry high school where his parents taught. You are entitled to your opinion but not your own facts. If he were white you would praise him. Who does this blog praise who is black? Some how you made this post about him when it was about Judge Green and RSS. Just own your racism.
Kingfish: You ever heard of a murder that IS NOT a felony? What a stupid question you asked.
Thanks KF for reporting this sad fact.
Eric was a childhood friend of mine.
Although we lost touch after the 8th grade,
he was a damn fine kid even back then.
It makes me sick his killer will be free in 24 months.
No one should die that way !
"Sub humans" slamming his skull into the concrete of a Waffle House parking lot ?
Shaking my head.
And then having the gaul to steal a ring that he cherished . . . as a reminder of his Dad.
(Mr. Dewey Hambrick)
Another fine man that the City of Jackson was lucky to have !
The making of a super thug!
2 years till freedom. He will be bulk up by than & put all that good prison training to work getting the Benjamins in the hood. A good sucker punch & it's payday. I will get my revenge on this mofo white establishment. You feel me Bro...
@9:25am - Kingfish is referring to the felony murder rule. Now go google it and stop trying to be more than your GED allows.
@9:53am - It’s very sad, for Mr Hambrick and all the kids that grow up without a family unit to raise them to know the value of human life over their own selfish impulses and material things. Unfortunately, this culture isn’t going to change any time soon. If you have to go to Jackson, only do it during the day and only with a primary CCW, back up, and lots of training. And you’ll need a lawyer on retainer to defend you from the inevitable murder charges coming if you defend yourself. If you would’ve just given them your stuff everything would’ve been fine. On second thought, don’t ever go to Jackson, drive around it. Maybe the Pearl will wash it all away out into the gulf and we can start over.
I wish my many acquaintances who live in Jackson could sale their homes & get out. I, like so very many others, sold my home years ago at a lost just to get out. It is not just the crime. It is the quality of life. When I moved here some 40 years ago it was a relatively nice, reasonably cultured, social city of 230,000. Now......
My child had a wreck several years ago in Jackson. She was driving a nice, new Mercedes. The black person who ran into her was issued two citations by police & was standing on the side of the road laughing & talking to people when I drove up in a nice, new Mercedes. At this point this driver decided they needed to call an ambulance & be transported to the hospital. Even thought my daughter was not faulted & the other driver was, my insurance settled for $9700.00 & canceled all our auto policies. I complained to them. Their response was that my daughter was white, the other driver was a black female, & the wreck was in the city of Jackson. They said they were excited to get out that cheap. It was at that point that I knew I had to get my family out of Jackson. Racism??
Well, maybe someone needs to make this soon to be ex-con go meet his
maker within 3-6 weeks of him being released. I’m sure the Dixie Mafia could
make this happen, don’t u think?
11:52, is that a true story? While the facts of the accident sound credible to me, I find it very hard to believe an insurer would just up and pay a claim where the police report assigns complete fault to the other driver. Also, that the employees of the insurer would admit to an insured that the decision to pay the claim was based on venue and race strains credulity.
Just think about the good ole boys who walked free and where guilty of lynchings, cross burnings and other mayhem.
I once hired Ali to be my attorney, he’s very thorough. At the same time, if Coleman plead guilty to manslaughter then what exactly is the problem with the sentence? He’s serving a manslaughter guideline sentence, isn’t he?
8:52, I think relying on criminals to provide justice is pretty much the antithesis of what we need.
Kingfish asked, Have I ever heard of 'felony murder'? You mean as opposed to 'misdemeanor murder'?
Erick was a good person. I supervised him at one point and can tell you that he was much beloved by his coworkers. He would not hurt a fly which made him a perfect target for the thugs. I guarantee he would have given them whatever he had but sadly he’s gone now and a couple of degenerates got masters degrees in checkers and guerrilla tactics before they are released to show some Jackson Love again.
Disgusting.
Shame on all of you.
Eric was my mother's very best friend and a gift to each of us who knew him.
Once in a while I come to pay my respects.
This is how we represent his memory?
By fantasizing about revenge on a young man who clearly wasn't raised right and went down the wrong path?
By espousing violence in the place of meaningful change and progress?
God, I am glad I left Jackson, but not just because of the criminals. It's clear that most of you aren't any better than that which you condemn and you clearly belong there.
Eric was better than this. It's deeply saddening that his "friends" fall so far short of his example.
