Just a sewer smoke test.

On seeing the smoke, I was hoping it was the Jackson Convention Center Complex.

Welding caught the insulation on fire.

Oh, I thought it was the Ghost of General Sherman coming back to burn down Jackson again.

Anonymous said...

Is the new one or the old one on fire?

Anonymous said...

Damn Ironworker’s! They never look where they weld or cut!

Anonymous said...

What would you call a major fire in Jackson????

Urban renewal!

Anonymous said...

Its the new one. The one they funded in 2018 when they came out bragging AGAIN that they are cutting the size of state government.

Burn Baby Burn!

@12:50 pm the new one that is currently under construction

Off topic, but what was the reasoning for building a new trade mart adjacent to a dilapidated coliseum that needs to be replaced sooner rather than later?

Anonymous said...

Not to worry.

The new building wasn't really damaged.

The Jackson Gun & Knife Show will still have a fresh venue for many years to come.

I only wish their little girl from the late 80's would make an appearance.

Gawd she was hot!

Wearing "Daisy Dukes", loading an automatic shotgun with one hand . . . and smiling at the camera the entire time . . . while saying, "Sure as shooting . . . I hope to see you there !"

Ahhh, the good ole days.

Well maybe they can build a third one on the parcel on High Street where the funeral home was.

Or maybe they can build a fourth one where the Sun and Sand was.

Hell, the state has bought up most of downtown Jackson. We could have the biggest trademart building in nation.

Burn it down for insurance....isn't that what happens to every failing restaurant in America?

Shad needs to put his fire gear on and get his ass down there.

The State of Mississippi now owns the Wright and Ferguson property. The major problem is that they can not demolish the building for a parking garage and office building because some dimwit in the House of Representatives altered the bill to purchase the property by inserting the language that "the state agrees to maintain the historical integrity of the property in consultation with the Department of Archives and History" and that the property shall not be demolished! Of course, the Public Property Chairman in the Senate had nothing to do with this, even though his wife is the Executive Director of the Department of Archives and history. The building was built in the late 1940's - most of the houses built in Jackson were built around the same time - does that make them historical? The Legislature passed SB 2685 in 2015, which was authored by Senator David Blount, husband of the Director of Archives and History. Sounds like the Ethics Commission may need to look into this! No wonder the city of Jackson is in bad shape!

As I understand it, the new Trade Mart will have less square footage than the old one! Thanks Cindy Hyde-Smith. They should have taken that $30,000,000.00 and refurbish the existing Trade Mart with about $15,000,000.00 and make it look like brand new. The other $15,000,000.00 could have gone into the renovation of the old National Guard Armory located on the fairgrounds where receptions and other events could take place. Commissioner "White Hat" Gipson should have stopped the construction of the new Trade Mart when he was sworn into office last year, but he had to go around the State in his white hat, instead of staying in Jackson learning more about the Department of Agriculture. I won't let my children go ice skating at the fair this year! Can you imagine the problems they are going to have with the crime in Jackson and on the fairgrounds. We are an open carry State, so bring your guns and come on down to the fair. They are legal, so stand your ground!

Y'all were so distracted, you forgot the gun and knife show woman introduced herself as Heather.

Anonymous said...

"Hi, I'm Heather," she would say, standing there in her skimpy outfit with a short barreled pump shotgun with a pistol grip. Then she would invite everyone to the show, and follow it up with, "Sure as shootin' (racks the shotgun's action), I'll probably see you there." Which always seemed intentionally ambiguous to me - she starts out with a certainty, (Sure as shootin') and then qualifies it with a "probably." It was all a tease, of course - I never saw her there, and I never missed a show. But it was certainly a memorable piece of advertising. Wonder where Heather is now?

On the funeral home comment -- Thank you David Blount for working to preserve this iconic building.

Heather for the Baton Rouge Gunshow

DFA bought the funeral home for $1,700,000.00 and now they want to spend another 3-4 million to remodel for state offices. How dumb can you get. Well, I take that back - we've got Phil as our Gov! If anybody with any sense would drive around that property, you can see that it needs to be torn down and replaced with a multi level garage. No telling how much it's going to cost to dig out all that yazoo clay. And don't forget, DEQ will get involved with the cleanup. No telling what kind of chemicals and fluids have gone into the ground.

Why would anyone want a dilapidated funeral home and motel to stay put for historical value? Maintaining a sh@th*le eyesore has historical value? Get over yourselves baby boomers!

Thanks for that, 11:26. That brought back memories.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
