Kenny Wayne is going bad boyz on the State Auditor. The former General Manager of Canton Municipal Utilities said he will fight the State Auditor's demand that he repay $78,612. The demand letter orders Kenny Wayne Jones to repay $75,000 in severance pay and $3,612 for personal spending on a CMU credit card. However, Mr. Jones said he CMU is responsible for the payment. Mr. Jones told the Clarion-Ledger:
He said CMU had in its files that he was terminated, but Jones said there was never a termination. He said he voluntarily resigned. He said CMU's attorney and his attorney negotiated the settlement, which he said was a common practice, and that other general managers of the utility had similar settlements.
However, it appears CMU gave the former general manager a choice to either resign or be fired. CMU stated in a letter sent to Mr. Jones on January 5, 2018:
Please be advised that the Canton Municipal Utilities Board of Commissioners met on January 4, 2018 and authorize me to negotiate a settlement between it and Mr. Jones.
CMU voted unanimously to request Mr. Jones' resignation and offer to pay him $ 50,000. He would have to execute a full and final release, of any and all claims, choses in action, demands, actions, causes of action or assertions of liability against the Canton Municipal Utilities, its successors, predecessors, receivers, and assigns forever.
Otherwise, he will be terminated for cause, pursuant to CMU's authority under Mississippi Code Annotated 21-27-17 and Thompson v. Jones Cty. Cmty. Hosp., 352 So.2d 795, 796 (Mis s . 1977) and its progeny.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Deborah McDonald
Kenny Wayne didn't wait to go to court but shimmied up to a microphone at Supertalk this morning and defended himself on the Gallo Radio Show. He said it was a settlement payment and not a severance even though it the letter refers to a severance. Mr. Jones said that the company can pay a settlement. He said that CMU paid four settlements to employees. He said that some payments were made that were over $100,000.
Mr. Jones said he was not fired but resigned after the Board offered him the money to resign. His contract had a term of three years. He said he returned the items purchased with the credit card.
Kingfish note: Bad Boyz? Glad you asked.

Just you watch said...
Kenny Wayne will declare bankruptcy.
In the alternative, he'll go 'round to the churches & pass the hat.
But I bet he declares bankruptcy.

Book. It. People.
Dude’s never had a real job.
State senator & honked at the CMU trough.
Chapter 7 coming.
I can't wait to see Shad squirm on this one.
@4:30
Just what do you think Shad will "squirm" about? It is his sworn duty to uphold the laws of the State of Mississippi and it certainly appears something illegal has been going on in Canton.
I enjoy listening to Kenny Wayne. He always has a quick comeback and is never nasty with his replies, but that doesn't mean he wasn't paid illegally. Maybe he didn't do anything wrong and it was CMU, but someone needs to get to the bottom of this. It's the old "If it smells like a dead fish then it's....."
I can't wait to see Shad when he tries to go up against Kenny Wayne, who is way smarter than Rad Shad White.
Who is smarter! Mr White was a Rhodes Scholar with a Masters Degrees from Oxford (the one in England 11:01) and a Law Degree from Harvard. Mr Jones has a degree from Jackson State and some sort of meaningless certificate from Millsaps. Really, whom do you think is the smarter? It should be obvious who the biggest crook is.
11:01, one can only presume that is an attempt at humor, given that KWJ has the brain of a pre-Halloween pumpkin and Shad is an actual Rhodes Scholar.
Just watch, Lil Shad will be out-thunk and out-did by Kenny Wayne!!! He ain’t got no street smarts.
7:14am, I love the blatant incorrect grammar in your text while you’re explaining who’s smarter and who’s not. Total clown!
Why do half of you think it matters what KWJ thinks, says or does. The law is the law and it is not legal to pay severance to a separated state, county or municipal employee. Per(fucking)iod.
Same person whose comments KF highlighted here will now be spreading FUD how White won't win or successfully collect.
A Rhoades Scholar..Degree From Harvard and he comes back to Mississippi to be a state auditor. What a waste and not too smart.
So Jones says in the interview that he was a VP, then GM and then President of CMU, that he himself approved two "settlements" similar to his own situation in excess of $100k and maybe as high as $200k, that he knows of four such settlements, that he had "creative differences" with the CMU board and alludes he was preparing to sue them, that the CMU board knew he was going to sue them, that he still had two years remaining on his contract at $150k per but was happy to take CMU's $75k to leave.
Jones, you really are a dummy.
The law is this and the law is that... yada yada yada...flip him— the law allows for deals to be made for cooperation.
All one has to do is press the right buttons. What matters to Ole Kenny? What matters to Rudy? What matters to the Blackmon$.?
Funny the people criticizing Shad's intelligence literally cannot spell "Rhodes Scholar."
A Rhodes scholar working as a State Auditor? He could have gotten the same job with a B.S. degree.
Wow, what’s done in the darkness usually comes to light. It’s sad and the people of Canton deserves better. You can’t say that you love something but continue to steal from it. A classic case of living above your means with one of the poorest cities in the USA. Smh as. Lot of people from Canton looked up to Mr. Jones.
