The Return of the Shap

Mark Shapley posted this message on Facebook yesterday:

Hey friends, You know I don’t post often but I wanted to inform and confirm that this summer, Mary and I are going back into our restaurant business in our original location on Centre Street. We are very excited about this opportunity and plan to continue the same great menu and service that you came to know from us years ago.
We’re also excited to have our nephew Jeffrey Shapley join our team and continue as general manager. Jeffrey has been at Shapley’s for over twelve years and will be an invaluable asset to our new venture. Please help us spread the word and we’ll share info as things develop. Stay tuned, more to come. Many thanks, Mark

Hmmm.......now does original location mean the mansion they built or............ the actual original location in the strip mall?

The Shapleys leased the restaurant to Scott and Julie Koestler in 1998.  The lease expires this year.  The parties have apparently not been able to reach an agreement on the renewal of the lease.  Mr. Shapley and his wife sued Koestler Inc. in federal court this month over the use of the mark, "Shapley's".  The Koestler's are moving their restaurant to Renaissance where it will occupy the former site of Ruth's Chris Steak House.  Earlier post on lawsuit.

Interesting use of the Facebook post you 'found'. Credit much?

Anonymous said...

wtf does that mean 922?

Anonymous said...

9:22 AM, Troll much?

Anonymous said...

It means he ripped off the story and never gives credit. We read on here frequently that others are ripping off JJ yet he does it as much as anybody does. Nothing trolling about that. Just the wtf-facts, ma'am.

First damn sentence said Mr. Shapley posted it on his Facebook page, you damn liar. Full credit. Troll.

Ripped off a FB post that Mark meant for everyone to see? That is funny! You must lead a miserable life 9:22/10:02.

As a Patron of Shapley's, this leaves me feeling like the original owners
may welching on a deal. I have no knowledge of their deal but if feels like the place was doing too good and they want back in to ride the coat tails of the last 20 years. As a side note, would a steak joint do good in the Parker House location, I never went but it looks interesting.

so the Shapley's probably sold the restaurant at some unbelievable price 20 years ago, thinking the Koestlers would be able to meet the financial obligation, yet they apparently have. 9 years ago, Koestlers establishes rights to the name, and nothing is said. So maybe a year ago, the Shapley's start the process to renew what is probably an exorbitant lease with the Koestlers. They rightfully try to negotiate, and are met only a "you will pay our demands" response, so they chose to do what any smart business with a loyal following would naturally do.....move. Me thinks the Shapley's backed themselves into a corner, and are now in litigation in an attempt to back door a correction to their bad dealings. The Koestler's have operated that establishment successfully for 20 years. I have a feeling that they are on the right side of right.

I hope Mark Shapley is a total flop. I do not know Scott and Julie other than eating at their restaurant, but they have always been delightful, service impeccable and the food A+. I hate to see where Mark is ripping the rug out from the Koestlers because of his financial issues.

Maybe one of the two competing restaurants can be named "The Restaurant Formerly Known as Shapley's", and, in a few years, just "The Restaurant", then several years later, it can change its name to an unpronounceable symbol.

I see Julie and her friends are busy today

Not that it matters, but, yes, Kingfish does troll other facebook group pages, blogs and venues to rip off stories. All that's asked for and all that's appropriate is the simple 'hat tip' for a story. He bitches and publicizes it when the Ledger and others 'rip off' HIS stories. Goose-Gander, People. It's simple. And it's professional courtesy.

10:08 mentions former Parker House building, which needs to be torn down. Mark Shapley's other cousin/nephew is Richard Shapley that owns Ely's on Jackson St. in Ridgeland.

I had a very good filet at Tico's the other night.

Service was first class and the price was reasonable.

Anonymous said...

And to top it off, Ely is the name of Shapley's deceased dad. At the end of the day, a steak is a steak unless you pay five prices for it at The Flora Butcher. Then, it's not a steak...it's a screwing.

I don't know the Flora Butcher, but I have bought steaks there four times at a bout $30 a pound. We grilled them, and they were the best steaks I have ever eaten--anywhere. The person above talks about a screwing. But nobody is forced to buy a steak at the Flora Butcher; however, the times I have been to this place, there were plenty of repeat customers buying expensive steaks. The Flora Butcher must be doing something right. If a person thinks he or she is being screwed, just don't go back. Meanwhile, I go back at least once a month.
I love that place.

5:58, take your coupons to McDonalds for your Big Mac and fries. The rest of us are fine with reasonable prices for Wagyu beef at the Flora Butcher.

Flora butcher... nice guy named David Raines owns/runs it. He recently 'reopened' chimneyville's old location on high street. Is apparently filling a niche because it's literally packed and has not been open a week.

Scott just signed a lease agreement and now it is done. What is the big deal?

Ridgeland is hopping! It’s the place to be! TWO Shapleys-The original and the new and improved as well as Costco. Game over.

7:52...the steak you paid thirty bucks a pound for is the same thing Kroger sells for $14.99. If you bought Wagyu, you paid much more. You probably did a u-turn in the street to park your Volvo there too. Then you went straight home, poured a stem of wine, extended your pinkie and told your Facebook peeps you'd been to The Flora Butcher. We know who you are.

Love me some Chimneyville but you won't see the gentried group from Madison-West there, slumming. Burp.

6:37:
You probably think that Kroger steak tastes like a McDonald burger too.

HERE IS THE HAT TIP:

PLEASE take your troll ass elsewhere.

Thanks for the tip about Chimneyville re-opening. The old one was great. Wagyu is pricey but tastes great. I'll have to check out the Flora Butcher; I've only ever had it when traveling out of state.

"Kingfish wrote: **Mark Shapley** posted this message on **Facebook** yesterday".

True enough; but Kingfish lifted the entire thing off a Madison Group Page where your quote also came from. The information wasn't private or secret. The only suggestion having been made is that Kingfish, like all others, should give proper credit when he posts a story that he lifted, regardless of the nature of the story or whether it was original in content. The page in question sometimes quotes this blog but always ensures that Kingfish is credited. Goose-Gander is appropriate.

Nothing 'trolling' about truth, even when it might sting. It's also not trolling to remind you that Kingfish often posts here as anonymous, frequently screaming about trolling.

Kingfish said...

Actually I did give credit in the first sentence. Once again, you are trying to stir up stuff by blatantly lying... if you were sober.

Don't like that last sentence? Too bad. You owe me an apology. I dont' comment anonymously on here. Period. You've never once shown any proof that I do it and can't because none exists. It's pretty funny. Sometimes you'll accuse me of it when I'm actually driving or don't have a phone with me. However, you just keep making things up.

Don't bother commenting because I'm not approving it. You've made one false accusation after another against me and I'm under no obligation to approve anymore. Period.

What, you wanted Kingfish to credit a 'Madison Group Page' on FB? Goose-Shit is appropriate for the troll droppings you keep leaving here.

My wife and I love the Flora Butcher. Have been going regularly since they opened. Live in 39211. Happy to make the trip. David is a really nice guy and his Dad grows some mighty fine beeves. Now where'd I leave that "wine stem"?

Even though Kroger is a union establishment, you will not find better steaks than at the 51 branch in Madison. As long as we're plugging the Flora Butcher, let's be honest. Shop the 'butcher counter' there, not the 'green meat' discards that are being poured over by the crowd from Northbay.

But, do avoid the shrimp in the display case, ready for steaming. They are the exact same shrimp you'll find just a few feet away in the frozen section, the Chinese shrimp. And, oh, the crawfish that claims to be 'cajun'...it's from China too.

Wagyu and free-range beef from Kosciusko that never touched poop are both gimmicks. Ask Little Willie or any reputable meat market manager. Grill On!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell.
