And so it begins..... (Updated)

Governor Phil Bryant's office sent this message out to the media this afternoon.

Update: Meanwhile, the new Senator-to-be received some congratulations from across the aisle....

while Mr. Cole threw out his choice earlier in the day on Facebook:

Eureka! I have arrived at the best possible Republican interim appointment for the Cochran Senate seat. No Republican loves Mississippi more. No Republican knows more about Mississippi. No Republican would work half as hard. No Republican knows the ins and outs of Congress better. No Republican is more deserving.
Governor Bryant, appoint Mr. Steve Guyton.

What an idiot. For starters, why even make this decision now? Put a survey in the field with several names and scenarios and see what the data say about the potential replacements. This is going to be a disaster when she fails to even make the runoff in November. We're last in everything else; may as well add gubernatorial intelligence to the list.

Titanic Phil has just bumped into the iceberg. But, don't worry - the band's still playing.

She will not be our next elected Senator...only an asterisk..the first and only female to serve in the US Senate from Mississippi.

ANDY TAGGERT is our ONLY hope!

Anonymous said...

Put me down for Mike Espy. Would consider Andy Taggart if he runs but this will end up a runoff between McDaniel and Espy.

Anonymous said...

Andy is the only one that WILL unify all factions of the party’s

Anonymous said...

WTH happened with Speaker Gunn??? By far States best leader.

Anonymous said...

No one knows Andy outside of the Madison/Ridgeland/Jackson area. Start learning how to say "Senator Espy". Delbert was the best choice and Feel overlooked him.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps Phil has an axe to grind with Delbert.....and overlooked him on purpose? Hmmmm.....

In the dictionary, a “moron” is defined as a stupid person. Thus the Guv has undoubtedly finally proved he is one.

Whuts Inna Name? said...

There ya go. Macdaniels or Tagretts. Informed Mississippi electorate and prognosticators.

Anonymous said...

Know what's really sad? I can't think of one Republican who I think would do a good job.

Anonymous said...

Idiots,

Phil just threw a curve ball so Chris wins.

Anonymous said...

Who would win a McDaniel-Espy runoff?

Anonymous said...

So will there be a run off between the top two vote getters. If not Espy will win hands down. He is a crook and will vote with the Dims. McDaniel better withdraw. Surely the big boys in the R Party can promise to McDaniel to drop out.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps 95% of you fledgling, wanna-be political pundits should stay on the porch. I’ve never heard such foolish babbling in my life.

Anonymous said...

No the Gov. apparently has an axe to grind with McDaniels so he's pulling a vindictive stunt. And Espy had to resign due to accepting improper gratuities. So there you have it a hyphenated surname, a crook or a guaranteed thorn in the side of rat McConnell and weasel Ryan.

The Pundit said...

It was Gunn’s appointment until the Mickey D announcement. Gunn would be the superior choice but he loses the older confederate voters in the party due to the flag. Guv had to pull him.

Every Mickey D promo since his announcement has prominently displayed the upper left corner of the state flag. He clearly thought he would be battling Gunn. Whole different ball game now.

Deputy Dumbass Phil is proving himself on this one. Thankful that he hasn't had to make other critical decisions while warming the Governor's chair. Hopeful that he will not be called on for any other's during his term.

Anonymous said...

The good news is that she will have to resign her current seat. Then, after being annihilated in the election, she will neither be seen nor heard from again. BTW, this has nothing to do with the fact that she is a female. I would say the same thing about many of our male officials (i.e. Gunn, Harkins, etc.). I'm not a big fan of Tater, but he should have stepped up and taken one for the team on this one. Congrats to Senator Espy or Senator McDaniel. Thanks Phil! This will be your legacy.

at 7:27 PM are you one of those foolish babbling idiots that thought Trump would never win? Probably. Your kind are old news pal.

Johnny Wadd said...

Phil, you dumb shit!!! You might as well invite Mcdaniel and Espy and toss the coin. Just wait till Trump puts that ass on blast for appointing a "loser with low energy" when she misses the the runnoff and espy mops up with crazy chris.

Anonymous said...

Dear Lord, Please just keep McDaniel out of ANY office! He’s such an embarrassment!

Anonymous said...

What about Dane Maxwell? Aren't he and the Guv buddies?

Anonymous said...

Phil is determined to remembered as the dumbest Gov to EVER grace our state (and we’ve had some dumb ones). Another dumb move Phil. McD for the win!

@8:45 a bit thin-skinned ain’t you? Grow a set and don’t get your feathers ruffled so easy fellow.

I have never heard of anyone accuse Phil Bryant of being smart, but this appointment proves just how dumb he really is. Smith was a Democrat only a few years ago. It is incredible and inexcusable that Bryant would award such a plum position to someone that was a Democrat such a short time ago. It is a slap in the face to all of those who labored in the Republican vineyards for the past 30 years. Smith was just an opportunist who switched parties because she was smart enough to realize that a Democrat could no longer be elected to statewide office. I literally detest Chris McDaniel and would never vote for him for anything. If as I expect, he and Espy end up in a runoff, I will sit out the election. Only a dimwit such as Bryant could have so royally screwed this up.

@10:07 LOL Plenty of armor-skinned hide for ya! Just calling out those who really are clueless as to the quiet revolution that's happening right under your noses. The delusional ones are the folks that haven't realized why the hell Trump was elected. The "old" Mississippi is going to change a lot sooner than you think. Don't be surprised when then University of Mississippi becomes a predominantly HBCU like Howard, Alcorn, and Grambling. It's inevitable. Just a matter of time......10 years or 50 years.....doesn't matter, because it will happen.

The USM connection -- it's pretty obvious that is the primary qualification Bryant considered when he selected Cindy Hyde-Smith to finish out U.S. Senator Cochran's term. Hyde-Smith is a USM grad, as is Bryant. That's the "only" fact distinctive about her resume that would make Bryant consider and prefer Hyde-Smith over Gunn and others who wanted the position, and are more electable in November than Hyde-Smith.

Bryant (USM grad) has previously demonstrated his agenda to stack MS political positions with his gubernatorial appointments of USM grads, regardless of better-qualified candidates who are grads of other universities. His selection of Hyde-Smith is simply a continuation of Bryant's agenda. But, Bryant's agenda and attempt to elevate USM political capital in MS has just handed the November election to Chris McDaniel, much to the chagrin of the Republican party heavy-hitters. What a cluster!

We can say goodbye to the Mississippi Republican Party. Thanks to Phil, Tate, et al, the Party's over.

The Hyde-Smith appointment feels like a bad dream. But when i picked up this morning's newspaper in my driveway, the front page article confirmed that it is real.

Anonymous said...

Wow! So you won’t to bring USM into the political discussion. Let me be clear. Over the last 100 years it is documented that Ole Miss got the political clout and money, followed by the bull pups. We got the leftovers along with Delta State and the HBU. The college board was stacked. So if you are correct and I think you are wrong USM has a lot of catching up to do. Let’s call it like it is. In recent years the college board and legislature have been able to be watched with social media and open records. If it were not for the recent success of the SEC and SEC network the schools up north would be struggling for dollars like USM. At least State agreed to play us in football. Ole Miss is still scared to lose to us. The money would be good. And maybe guv Phil could pick the officials who are all Usm grads!

Anonymous said...

only a Mississippi southern fan could digress a discussion about senate appointments into a discussion of um and miss southern playing football.

95% of the shills on this thread voted for Phil Bryant, "Dic-Tater" Reeves, and Cindy Hyde-Smith in the general election.

Now they want to talk about the establishment? Hell, you voted for the establishment. This is Mississippi Southern Fried Politics at its finest.

Why not Lynn Fitch? She appears more professional, politically savvy and capable. Plus she wouldn't look like a red-neck in a crowd of DC suits...

And It's Dipbert By A Nose said...

Rumors of the Hyde-Smith appointment must have been a calculated teaser. According to the soon-to-be-defunct Clarion Lehjuh, Dipbert is closing in on her from the rear, figuratively speaking of course.

Anonymous said...

Why not Lynn Fitch? One can take every shortcoming of Hyde-Smith, and Fitch doesn't even reach those handlebars. Other than (also) being a woman, what does Fitch bring to the table? Inability to raise money as a candidate - sans daddy's money which she can't repay? Inability to manage personal finances, having to use campaign 'contributions' to pay her personal expenses? Her tellar personal life? Or her inability to pay the state's bond debts on time, putting in jeapordy the financial credit of the state? Maybe it is the stellar management of PERS she has provided under her leadership? Just what is it that makes Ms. Fitch a good alternative - other than its a good way to get her out of the state office?

Well, it's a done deal now. Maybe we can "all just get along" till November and adjust our opinions based on whatever happens between now and then. NAH!

I’m not sure that CHS is best candidate but none of the other “fellas” wanted to face CM in November. Phil may be thinking that CM won’t go after her as hard because she is a woman and if CM dies go after her it won’t bode well for him. I do think that CHS was one of the best Agr. Commissioner we have had in a long time. All of this could have been avoided if the GOP establishment didn’t throw integrity to the curb in the Cochran/CM race. I voted for Cochran but CM really beat him. You folks who say you will vote for Espy are either liberals or fools or both. Espy is a train wreck. See Bennie Thompson and Obama. Andy Taggart - bless his heart. I guess he wants to keep it pure. I don’t plan to vote for CM. But I won’t vote for Andy either. I think the grass roots Farm bureau folks in MS will get the vote out for CHS. She will get
The majority of white democrat vote and she will mainstream gop/conservative vote. CM will get the fringe republicans and I think she will win strong. If she gets out and runs hard.

So I guess Cole is simply trying to visually smear Cindy as a Democrat? Seems kinda juvenile.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
