Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
BAN ON SANCTUARY CITIES HEADS TO GOVERNOR
JACKSON – Legislation prohibiting cities, counties, community colleges and universities from purposefully defying federal immigration laws passed the Senate today.
Senate Bill 2710, sponsored by Sen. Sean Tindell, R-Gulfport, and supported by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, goes to Gov. Phil Bryant for consideration.
“This state law banning sanctuary cities is a major step forward for law and order in Mississippi,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I appreciate the work of Sen. Tindell to ensure our local governments and educational institutions follow federal immigration laws. No government entity – whether at city hall or a university campus – can grant amnesty to illegal aliens and violate federal laws.”

Proof positive that there is no difference between a D and R when it comes to grandstanding and wasting taxpayer money. Truly, if "[n]o government entity...can grant amnesty ... and violate federal laws," then why the hell should the state legislature be involved in this at all? Let the feds handle their own business. It's a question for federal laws and the court system, not Tater's tots.
Wait....Senator Tindell, the Lt. Governor and the Governor all believe Mississippi needs a state law to promise to follow Federal law?
Good job, guys.
Good use of money and resources. Way to proactively work for the State.
Just curious but approx how much do y'all think this cost ?
You snowflakes might feel safer over at the Jackson Fake Press.
Why is snowflakes an insult? Snowflakes are beautiful, unique, individual and created by God (if you believe) in his infinite wisdom. Y'all really need to come up with better insults. But that's not what I came here to say...
I am so tickled at how Mississippi steadfastly refuses to comply with federal laws with which they don't agree, but is quick to draft unnecessary legislation to mandate compliance with others. Rock on backward arse state, rock on!
Actually, @10:29, it sounds like you're the one who's scared.
Of a fictional city? Non-existent immigrants? Who knows....but you're the snowflake.
You should get your representative to file a "No Saber-Tooth Tiger Bill" too so you feel safer.
10:26, I don't know. How much do you believe our state has in surplus to deal with nonsense? I'd argue that we shouldn't deal with nonsense, and that these issues should be addressed in stump speeches to the Rotary groups on the politician's dime.
10:29, Nice, original quip. You seem intelligent.
Looks like the Daniela Vargas illegal alien fan club is holding its meeting here today at JJ.
Passin' a state law to make people recognize a federal one....woo hoo! Great job, Tater!
I'm glad that ole Tater can toe the party line and echo the poli-speak down from Warshington. Thanks, Tater. Now, onto the budget, pleeeeease.
You people who think 'sanctuary' is not possible in these parts need to take a close look at Catholic Charities, the ACLU, Amnesty International and their efforts to establish sanctuary in cities like Biloxi, Gulfport, Meridian and Pass Cristian. And inner-city Jacktown is ripe for the pickin' as well.
Wake up you dumb shits!
The Hispanics are taking black labor jobs in Jackson. No sanctuary and no peace.
SO, state guvmint passed a law saying its illegal to violate/ignore a federal law. Now the fed realizes we mean business cos we got paperwork saying so. Expensive paperwork, but hey it's only tax money. Not like they were gonna use it for anything important.
Where were all these Federal law lovers when the Kenyan wasn't enforcing federal immigration law?
6:12 - Can you back up and define 'black labor jobs'? Include something about the last time you saw black labor performing what you call 'black labor jobs'. And while you're at it, show some evidence that black are applying for, lining up for, making themselves available for or asking for these jobs. We'll wait.
Oh I love that those who tout " States' Rights" and " less intrusive government" are so hypocritical as to intrude unnecessarily into local government.
7:00 pm You need to check the statistics on immigration enforcement and compare enforcement during the Obama years with those of Bush and Reagan. Some of you will believe anything the Russians feed you.
The Obama administration began the process last year of granting legal status to an adult illegal immigrant from Mexico with a criminal background who federal agents tried deporting twice and is now accused of killing his 15-year-old girlfriend.
Armando Garcia-Ramirez, 36, has been charged with murdering his teenage girlfriend from Texas, who local reporters identified as Jennifer Delgado, the Washington Times reported Tuesday.
@6:45 AM, Link?
5:47, the problem with people of your ilk is that you can't find it in your head to criticize a politician on your side. I think immigration laws should be enforced, but it's not a state issue. The Supremacy Clause ensures federal oversight. This bill is nothing but en empty gesture that serious-minded people should be able to recognize , regardless of their party affiliation.
Illegal alien drunk driver kills an innocent? Damn right it is a state issue.
5:12 has never worked in construction or had to hire a brick layer. Oh, and is a racist.
If you think illegal aliens aren't hurting the U.S. labor market, then I've got a bridge to sell you. The jobs they fill aren't advertised, therefor no one black or white can apply for them. It's a cloak and dagger world and there isn't much solid data to apply normal metrics. We can't truly measure how bad it's affecting society. This bill will likely be handy in the future, when the proponents of modern day slavery are back in power using their guise of human rights and hungry children to re-sell us on the idea.
Last time I worked inside the city of Jackson the project developer cut a deal with the city to make all the subs work or attempt at least, employ (and I use employ not "work") black citizens of Jackson. None were hired because they never applied for any positions. I don't work hispanics due to the language barrier and sloppy workmanship because they think that's the best that YOU will get and you have to accept it.
There are companies here in Mississippi and Texas who perform headhunting to promote and import illegal labor. Human trafficking is all it is and that's what needs to stop.
A man in New York is accused of sexually abusing a toddler and stabbing two women — all in the same day.
Police say Tommy Alvarado-Ventura beat and sexually abused his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter Tuesday while her mother was at work. The child needed surgery for her injuries.
Citing authorities, News 12 Long Island reported Alvarado-Ventura is a known member of the El Salvadorian gang MS-13 and has previously been deported four times for other arrests, including violating an order of protection against another woman.
New, brutal details emerged Monday in the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl at a Maryland high school by two male students, at least one of whom was in the country illegally.
The unidentified student at Rockville High School in Rockville, Md. was violently raped, sodomized and made to perform oral sex in a campus bathroom stall by the two males, according to court records.
Jose O. Montano, 17, from El Salvador, and Henry E. Sanchez-Milian, 18, from Guatemala, were charged with first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual offense after they allegedly attacked the girl at 9 a.m. last Thursday.
DACA is not law.
The teenage illegal immigrants charged with raping a 14-year-old girl in the bathroom of a Maryland public high school last week entered the United States under an Obama program that’s accommodated tens of thousands of Central American youths who crossed the Mexican border. The administration coined them Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) and portrayed them as innocent, desperate kids fleeing violence and famine in their homeland. Most are from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala and the influx has overwhelmed border agents, government health agencies and military bases that serve as shelters not to mention public schools nationwide.
This week two of the UACs protected by Obama’s outlaw amnesty measures were charged with the rape of a ninth-grader at Rockville High School in Montgomery County, a Maryland jurisdiction that offers illegal aliens sanctuary. The illegal immigrants, 17-year-old Jose Montano and 18-year-old Henry Sanchez, were both charged with first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual offense. Both illegal aliens were in the ninth grade like their victim.
