Tyner withdraws from PSC race

Attorney Mitch Tyner issued the following press release:

Tyner cites party unity in withdrawing from PSC Race.

Yesterday, candidate Mitch Tyner, sent a request to Republican Chairman Joe Nosef requesting that his name be removed from consideration in the upcoming Republican primary for Public Service Commissioner.

Tyner had been approached to enter the race last fall when it appeared that Republican Commissioner Lynn Posey might not seek reelection. Democrat Cecil Brown entered the race last year and Tyner’s supporters did not want to see this seat controlled by the democrats.

Only two days before the qualifying deadline, Republican Supervisor Tony Greer withdrew his re-election bid for Hinds County Supervisor and qualified to run for the Public Service Commission. Rather than divide the Republican Party and put this seat at risk to the Democrats, Tyner has elected to withdraw from the race.

Tyner said; “Last year the party had a very divisive U.S. Senate race. The party cannot remain divided and continue to win elections, especially in districts so evenly split like Mississippi’s Central District. I’ve known Tony Greer since college. He has served several terms as a Clinton alderman as well as the unexpired term of Mayor Fisher’s supervisor seat. I want to do my part in restoring party unity and electing good conservative candidates.”

Addressing rumors that Haley Barbour played a role in Tyner’s decision, Tyner states; “Governor Barbour and I did not discuss the PSC race but we have both expressed an interest in party unity all the way down the ticket.”

Hate he waited so long to get out of the race...

Love Tony Greer but wish he had run for re-election to the Hinds BOS. Voting for Cecil Brown on this one because Kemper and Barbour have to be stopped.

Tony should stay where he is for Cecil will get most of votes.

Tony will bring the same hard questions to PSC that he did to Hinds BOS.

Tyner could not have continued to practice law if he were elected to PSC under the statute requiring a PSC member to serve full time. Wonder if that had something to do with his dropping out.

Has Barbour recruited one of the candidates to be Kemper's guy on the PSC?

Cecil has his little band of believers in North East Jackson but that’s all he has. No one outside of that little corner cares that he’s done their neighbors taxes.

Lot of GOP will vote straight ticket. Lots of dems will turn out for MAEP. Should be a hum dinger. Lots of UM grads will be voting against Bryant as a protest, but that is a different topic.

Amen 3:26. If he would change that letter behind his name, he would probably walk away with it. But staying in a party led by Ricky Cole?

I like Cecil as well, but the R's have the guy. Brent Bailey actually knows what a PSC docket is AND the icing on the cake is he is opposed to Kemper as well. Tony Greer won't commit on not raising rates, he's dead in the water.

For what its worth in both 2008 and 2012 Obama won the district.

1:11 p.m., what could possibly be the value of your post? It's totally meaningless other than your seeing it here on the board? The timing of his withdrawal has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Thanks Hayes (3:45) for the nice endorsement of your guy. Did you (or on behalf of the Bailey campaign) pay JJ for this political advertisement?

Frankly, I would expect each and every candidate for the PSC to not comment on the stand they would take if elected - something that is required by the statutes.

And the PSC in this case acts as a quasi-judicial body and as such should basically follow ethics similar to the judicial cannons. That is, not to comment on or promise results on issues that might come before them.

Each and every candidate for the PSC should maintain an open mind and once elected listen to the evidence presented by all sides, and by the professional staff - on everything. And that includes Kemper.

My advice, Hayes, is to quit committing your candidate on how he would rule on issues that at this point all he knows is what the Stan Flint crowd has promised him if he votes 'right'.

If they don't at least indicate Kemper is a problem I ain't voting for Em.

Good for Tyner. Way to take the high road for the greater good.

Nice try 4:41...If you look back what you'll discover is that when I post I use my name...it would be a waste of my time to ask you to identify yourself because we all know you won't and really, that's ok. You obviously don't know how I manage a race and that's ok as well. I'd ask Brent how he feels on the issue. My guess is you wouldn't understand it at the level he knows but we'll all find that out soon enough!

4:41 I put my faith in the "Stan Flint crowd" any day instead of the Haley Barbour crowd. Obviously you do not live in the Ms. Power portion of the state. The boondoggle experiment called Kemper is a failure already just based on the out of control costs. 10 times the power could have been provide for the same 7 billion Anybody who has an interest in serving the people on the PSC already knows this. And then there are the Haley Barbour candidates that must serve their master. You need to call Ed Day, the forced into retirement MS. Power CEO, what his opinion of this failed project is. Oh, that's right, he is still being paid not to talk by his ex-employer.

I hear one of these guys was recruited by Haley for his client, Southern Company. Who is it?

For what its worth in both 2008 and 2012 Obama won the district.

Worth a little more, as this is a state election year not a federal election year, Republicans won the district in 2007 and 2011.

If you look back what you'll discover is that when I post I use my name ...

Sorry Hayes. Eichelhamburger and Andy Lowry have both said the same and we know they fibbed. Don't believe you for a minute that you 100% use your name here.

Hayes said...

...and this is me being tough as I post again no name. Keep up the good work!!

Haley's guy, I mean MS Power's guy, is Tony Greer!

Anyone who is Haley's bitch in the race needs to be exposed.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
