Bill enhancing gun rights passes

Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves issued the following press release:

BILLS PROTECTING SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS HEADS
TO GOVERNOR’S DESK

JACKSON – Legislation lowering fees on concealed carry permits and recognizing military service for firearm training passed the Senate, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said today. The legislation is part of his legislative agenda.

The bills head to Gov. Phil Bryant for consideration.

“These bills further protect our ability to carry concealed weapons and ensure that the state doesn’t overcharge for that right,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I appreciate the help and support of the National Rifle Association to get these agenda items to the Governor’s desk.”

Senate Bill 2394 reduces the fee on concealed carry permits, clarifies that such permits are not needed to carry a non-holstered pistol or revolver in fully enclosed case, such as a purse or briefcase, and establishes a certain classification for honorably retired law enforcement officers.

Senate Bill 2619 recognizes military service for carrying an enhanced concealed carry permit, exempts members of the National Guard or Reserve units from state residency requirements for such permits, and protects Mississippians from overregulation from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms on commonly used rifle ammunition.

As I understand the language a woman gets a pass with a purse and I'll need to borrow one from Tom Head to be legal.

LOL Well as long as we aren't invaded by Texas and no one with PTSD or who becomes a radical jihadist ever shows up in Mississippi, this will be great!

" Dear Jihadist John,
If you want a jihadist armory in the US for future terrorist acts or to arm local cells in any state. We are the " Crossroad of the South"! Mississippi welcomes you! The federal law enforcement agencies will not be able to bother your facility! We want your business! "

...because I'm sure if MS had stricter conceal and carry laws Jihadist John wouldn't carry

Or just open carry. Legal everywhere except federal property, though you will still likely be arrested at schools, police stations and courthouses.

Tate's positioning himself with the GOP to replace Bryant. Will he and Delbert and McDaniel all through in together?

8:04 am nice old hat response but you missed the point.

This is how we've now made it impossible for any federal agency to stop a Timothy Vey type militia or jihadist terrorist group or criminal arms dealer that chooses to use MS as a base of operation.

And, our local guys aren't likely to have the resources to know who is or isn't on federal watch lists.

But, gun rights extremists have made law enforcement more difficult and the unintended consequences will get worse over time.

You aren't likely to form a group of armed citizens to intimidate and threaten your neighborhood or community, but you are making it easy for others to do just that and for the police to be helpless!

You are making criminal enterprise easier instead of assuring law abiding citizens are safer!

And, it comes to your fear of gun confiscation, any hacker of worth crap can get the membership/mailing list of the NRA if they want to know who the law abiding citizens are that own guns! Or just buy the damn list!

Is this effective upon signature or will it be 1 July 2015?

Terrorist weapon of choice are bombs not guns. More bang for their buck. No pun intended. Gangs are into guns. "Look at my little killing machine. I need it in the hood (Jackson) for the feeling of being a big dick. But I'm really just an unemployed uneducated thug that whitey has kept down all his life. Pride comest before a fall.

You are a complete fool. How many shootings have taken place in gun free zones? You honestly believe the criminals give a crap about any laws?

Uh Oh! I'm not allowed to carry my gun in here. I guess I'll just turn around and not kill people, since that sign says there are no guns allowed.

'You are making criminal enterprise easier instead of assuring law abiding citizens are safer!'

Ever heard of Fast and Furious? Your president and incompetent attorney general ARMED THE MEXICAN CARTELS and your worried about a woman with a gun in her purse?

I hope you become a victim.

So, is this considered "concealed"?

Let's look at the "idiotic" language in this bill. It's says one can carry in a purse, handbag, satchel, other "similar"bag or briefcase or fully inclosed case. WTF is "similar"? How about wrapping a gun up in a rag? That looks similar to me....I can see a judge telling a prosecutor that this word is vague so said-criminal Bob is not guilty. Also any male can claim a bag is a man-purse. What does being a former military personel have to do with getting a background check? Hey Gipson, you want to do something for them, MAKE THE LICENSE FREE! The background check is still needed for any and all. Sen Gipson, if you care so much why didn't you get rid the part where the Dept of Public Saftey can get our medical records? So it's OK for any FOOL to carry concealed without a background check and it's still OK for DPS to have access to my med records. Hell, give EVERYONE A FREE permit, I don't care, but the background check needs to be there. Gipson your an idiot, a fool and you have NO business writing legislation about a subject you have about zero experience with. Just because you hunt twice a year doesn't mean you know a damn thing about guns, esp handgun carry. BTW: there is no gender-specific language in this bill. That was made up to explain away the idiocy of all this.

The right to bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

I don't know how the founding fathers could have possibly made it more clear. All firearm laws are unconstitutional.

Then again, there's a lot about post Civil War America that is unconstitutional.

This bill screams TEA PARTY idiots. The tea party think just like liberals. They see something and think it sounds really great, problem is they don't think about the consequences of the action. "Do today but no thought about tomorrow." We had a very easy process to get a concealed permit in Mississippi. You didn't even need to take a class like most states require. Just go sign up, get checked out, pay your fee and 45 days later you got your permit. Now any thug can carry concealed by just putting something around the gun and calling it a bag or purse. You people in the legislature need to join the rest of us in the real word. Your video game fantasy land does not exist.

9:31. no one is saying you can't own, carry, tote, buy, sell or whatever a gun. You don't think a background check to keep criminals away from CC is a good idea. Maybe you would like to give a gun to every psycho criminal in the state and say HEY, CARRY THIS IN YOUR PANTS FOR ME! Typical tea party cray-cray!

Anonymous said...

When y'all get done urinating on each others socks would someone tell me when this is effective?

Anonymous said...

I would think a school backpack would easily qualify as a purse.

As for your statement "The tea party think just like liberals" please note that liberals, moderates, and conservatives may not agree on all of the same things but none of us want to completely do away with the society we have and replace it with one like Iran where fundamentalist kooks are in charge.

Criminals and crazies are going to have guns anyway. Why is so hard to understand that making it as easy as possible for law abiding citizens to carry is a good thing. That law abiding citizen is more likely to save a life than take one using a gun.

Rat Tat Tat said...

What if a woman puts the purse (holding the gun) in her pocket? Or what if a man puts his gun in a sock and then in his pocket. He's met the conditions of this bill and is carrying concealed.

I bet we can get purses large enough to carry assault rifles :-)

Oh and I just love the folks who don't think terrorists have any use for weapons other than bombs!
Tell that to the families of those officers who were killed after the bombing in Boston! Tell that to the families of Marines killed by assault rifles!

Anonymous said...

8:23, that's a great idea, except it's already legal to open carry 'assault' rifles. It is also perfectly legal to open carry assault sticks, or assault flowers.

Please enlighten me, were the Boston bombers legal gun owners? Do you believe that they would not have done what they did if they were aware they were breaking the law?

People like you are the sole reason I own a modern sporting rifle.

This is nothing but a move by the metrosexuals to increase the number of purses on the street.

8:47, If Delbert or McDaniel thought they could beat Tate (or even had a chance to beat Tate) both of them would have run against him this year.

They both polled against him and they found out they couldn't win.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
