Dennis Sweet IV just issued this press release:
Dennis C. Sweet IV Announces Bid for Ward 6
Council Seat
|
JACKSON (MS)- Local lawyer Dennis C.
Sweet IV wants to put his experience as an attorney, work in the community
and family roots to work as The City of Jackson’s Ward 6 Councilman. As a resident of the area, Sweet sees many
opportunities for growth, change and community revitalization.
He is focused on being “Invested in
the Community, Dedicated to Progress.”
Sweet is a practicing attorney at Sweet and Associates Law Firm in
downtown Jackson. As an attorney, he
says the fight to secure justice for everyday people is one he wants to take
on in Ward 6.
“As a homeowner in South Jackson, I
know what we need. We want streets
without potholes, neighborhoods that are safe, businesses we can walk to and
opportunities for our children,” Sweet said. “As Ward 6 Councilman, I will be
focused on securing things for residents that improve their daily lives. When we work together this way, all of
Jackson benefits.”
Sweet looks to his family’s business
background and their collective spirit of service for support. His father, Dennis C. Sweet III is an
attorney in Jackson who has also served in the Mississippi State
Legislature. His roots in the area
are much deeper than that. “My
great-grandmother, Carrie Sweet, ran a grocery store and café near what is
now Jackson State University,” Sweet said.
“Her hard work resulted in better lives for all of us and generations
later we are still in this community, giving back and hoping we can make a
difference.”
Dennis C. Sweet IV earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tougaloo
College; a Juris Doctor from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas
Southern University and a Master of Laws from The George Washington
University School of Law. In addition
to practicing law, he is also an Adjunct Professor at Tougaloo College and is
actively involved in the Reuben V. Anderson Pre-Law Society where he mentors
and advises students. Dennis also works
with at-risk youth and is an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He is
a proud father of an 11-year-old daughter Sydney.

Just what JTown needs. Another councilman missing 40% of the meetings due to 'other commitments'. Stokes held the record, now this.
Despite the face that TSU's law school is named for an esteemed Supreme Court justice, they sure do turn out some shitty lawyers, don't they? At least LaRita and Octavian passed the bar, Kenneth didn't or never took it, and all three don't or can't practice the law. Maybe that needs to be vetting process #1 in city government hires: Did you go to Thurgood Marshall? Pass.
Will be interesting to learn which address Young Sweet is using to establish his Ward 6 residence.
The subject here went to George Washington Univ. for futher study in the law-- so he did well didn't he?
The members of the council are considered part-time. Margaret certainly does. Stamps is more energetic than most of them. Priester had a lengthy phone call before the council meeting could start earlier this week. He might have been on city business but the meeting had to wait on him.
Didn't the author of this blog attend and maybe even graduate from law school only to not practice law and instead pretend to be a reporter and start a blog???
Yup. Very penetrating observation. Rack him.
Isn't 9:54 AM a NAMBLA supporter??? Or am I confusing that anonymous nobody with some other anonymous boob???
I think I will back Hendrix. I have a love-hate relationship with part-time politicians. He will put more into the job than Sweet.
10:05, please, what is it about 9:54's post that would make you think he's a NAMBLA supporter? Boy, if that ain't a 'Brand Family' smear tactic, I ain't never seen one.
There's an article on WLBT's website today about Daniel Sweet of Rankin County, the son of Dennis Sweet and Kimberly Noel Sweet, winning a state award in Florida. And the Rankin County land roll shows property owned by them on Fannin Landing Circle. Shouldn't he live in Hinds County to qualify to run for this position?
@9:12 That would be Dennis Sweet III, who is Dennis IV's father
@9:12 That would be Dennis Sweet III, the father of Dennis IV
@9:12.......He lives around the Wingfield School area..........His father lives on Fannin Landing Cir.
He's using his OWN address to run for office! Please, do your research before commenting...it makes you look silly.
The J F P article on the announcement calls him a Lumumba candidate.lumumba fellow traveller Cynthia Newhall and lumumba finance director Barry Howard of Madison are in the photo, both wearing campaign t shirts.
Hopefully someone will ask him about his position on the Kush plan. Seriously. If he is a Lumumba proxy then he needs to be fully vetted. The lap dog JFP won't do it. Because I suspect we are about to find out alot as to what went on behind the scenes in the Lumumba administration to abuse city resources and money pushing the Kush plan and it won't be pretty.
1:16, if so, that suggests they are all part of the Republic of New Afrika ("By any means necessary...")tribe.
They do not hide their intentions, so why should others who will stop this hide theirs?
Stand up!
Listen to truth, not lies. The truth exposes...
@1:16 and @9:03 The Sweet family has been Catholic for years. So you don't have that to worry about.
WHAT? We don't have to worry about Catholics? Tell it to the alter boys.
12:17, what does being Catholic have to do with it? According to JFP "Before shedding his given name of Edwin Taliaferro, Lumumba was baptized Catholic."
He said he now attends the Word and Worship Christian Church. So?
If he is a "fellow traveler" of Lumumba then he sees the RNA pie-in-the-sky dream as a goal.
I wonder if the Lumumba family still owns the land purchased for the RNA?
JFP wrote- "During the 1970s, Lumumba went to law school and became a founding member of a group whose main goal was to obtain land for an autonomous nation in the southeastern United States for black people. As part of the organization, Lumumba helped purchase the first parcel of land near Jackson for the nation-state that would become the home for the Republic of New Afrika, or RNA, to be situated in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina."
The confederate separatists wanted their own little kush, but the union won in four bloody years. It is a legal question as to the constitutionality of separating from the union. It would be another civil war should that occur especially if the kush nation left a deal on the table for remaining in the union. The South wanted to be reimbursed for the slaves that would be freed and the kush nation would like a settlement for their abuse and damages related to slavery. That settlement is called reparations. Some confederate states have apologized for slavery, but none have paid damages.
One step forward, 8 steps backward. Sweet does NOT need to be elected.
