Drodrigue Williams: The Southern Poverty Law Center's special child

Mr. Williams was arrested for a wee bit of criminal mischief in Madison yesterday.

Madison police issued this statement last night:

On May 5, 2014 at approximately 11:45pm, a call was received by the Madison Police Department stating that there had been an armed robbery at a residence located in the Cypress Lake subdivision. The investigation indicates that the suspects were waiting at the garage of the home and not following the victims to the house. The caller did indicate that his vehicle was stolen on April 25, 2014 in another jurisdiction and his home address obtained. The suspect vehicle attempted to leave the subdivision as two Madison Police Officers arrived at the entrance gate. The gate opened and the suspect vehicle was able to leave the area almost striking one of the officers.....
Williams has been charged with 2 counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Williams is being held in the Madison County Detention Center, no bond, pending an initial appearance.

But wait, where have we seen young Drodriguez's name before? Over at the JFP where the Southern Poverty Law Center made him its special child in 2011:
Speaking to Jackson Public Schools board members last night, Jacqueline Willis called for the district to improve conditions at its alternative school and stop handcuffing students.

Willis claimed that staff members frequently handcuffed her son, Anthony, for minor infractions. Willis and several parents and students presented a petition to the board with 12,000 signatures demanding that the district end the practice of handcuffing.

"If we cannot protect our own children when they are in school, and if they are all treated like they are bad, then we are not giving our children a chance," Anthony Willis read from a statement.

Two national advocacy organizations, Alternet.org and Care2.com, launched the petition, which includes signatures from individuals from around the country.

Drodriquez Williams, who recently graduated from Wingfield High School, also claimed that faculty members handcuffed him when he attended Capital City alternative school for talking out of turn.

Jackson Public Schools board members did not offer a response to the matter. The Southern Poverty Law Center filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court June 8, claiming that JPS unconstitutionally punished students for minor offenses. JPS has less than two weeks to respond to the claim. Rest of article

My wife and I are looking at houses in cypress lake too.. oh dear...what to do? If Jacqeline Willis spent more time raising her kids and not running around trying to justify their thug behavior by blaming others we all would be a lot better off.

“Coddling the criminal element” should be the motto at JFP.

I don't know under what theory handcuffing a student is effective discipline. Ignoring the problem with no discipline or treatment if needed is just as stupid.

For openers , I would reinstate conduct grades and again make expulsion something that is within the authority of the teachers and principal. Students who want to participate in sports or extra curricular activities would have to maintain a B in conduct and parents would have to deal with a child's misbehavior to get them back into school.

Schools can't be therapeutic settings nor can parents expect them to be a child care alternative. They should be a place to learn!

This should especially be true for private schools NOW!

We also don't care that if he was " born a thug" or became one early on, fetal alcohol syndrome, drug withdrawal, lack of prenatal care, lack of nurture during early infancy etc. could be among the causes. Love those babies when they are in the uterus, but not enough to make sure they have a chance to develop with the gifts God intended.

We know dogs go bad when ill treated and not fed, but children can be beaten, chained, deprived of nutrition needed to develop and psychologically tormented and we defend parents' rights. We really see children as property not as responsibilities.

With wealthy children, parents can just buy them out of trouble or bribe the children to behave until they are adults.

We'll send them to jail/prison where they'll get tips on being a better criminal or become more enraged. They'll get out and procreate and their progeny will likely be a problems for another generation.

Children are a society's future and we are seeing all over the world how ignoring how they are raised is turning out.

wow, the government schools made him a criminal.

looks like he needed waterboarding not handcuffing

He must have like those handcuffs back in 2011. If he didnt he better get used to them now.

Not defending a criminal....but a lot of these criminals are are a product of their environment. The parents, lack of parents and the schools make growing up more like running a guantlet in Jacktown, a guantlet few get through intact.

I remember that lawsuit. Kids were handcuffed to poles the entire school day for not having belts. I am not excusing Williams actions, but being handcuffed for dress code violations doesn't help make better citizens.

7:46, if they are already in alternative school, would the threat of a bad conduct grade or expulsion really be effective?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, that sucks about being handcuffed at school. Thankfully, he will have 15 to 20 years to complain and have his voice be heard after Guest drops the hammer on him.

You are remembering what was alleged in the complaint filed by the Southern Poverty Law Center. That absolutely does not mean that is what actually happened.

9:31, since we (society) can't legislate how children are raised, we have to take care of it "on the other end." Furthermore, if the punishment on the other end isn't "sufficient," then the deterrent effect won't work and we lose all the way around.

That overall scenario sucks and I wish it weren't the case, but when a whole segment of society devolves to the point they have, there has to be a day of reckoning at some point.

I went and looked it up. JPS admitted it happened:

Ok, so it did happen. Cry me a river, I guess that excuses armed robbery.

Maybe you'd say the same thing if he had been raped by his priest or pastor? Maybe you wouldn't?

Actually, I would say the same thing - I don't care what someone's history is, that does not excuse sticking a gun in someone's face and robbing them.

Quit paying people to have children that they don't want to raise. Look for it to get a lot worse before it gets better.

The day Judge Keady determined criminals to be just another entitled, protected class...that was the day our world went to shit in this regard. The possibility of having a hand lopped off, losing your testicles or being blinded by a hat pin...now those are deterrents.

As long as criminal behavior offers rewards with very little deterrance, nothing will ever change.

Blaming their disadvantaged upbringing or their mother's poor parenting skills is ridiculous. It wouldn't matter if these kids were raised by wolves in the wild, there are too many ways for everyone to learn the difference between right and wrong. They knew what they were doing was not only morally wrong but also against the law. They chose to do it anyway. That's not anyone's fault but their own.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
