The scrum between Senator Thad Cochran and Senator Chris McDaniel heats up as the pro-Thad PAC Mississippi Conservatives fired a round of visual artillery with this ad:
However, Cochran supporter Governor Phil Bryant criticized the ad:
“I’m disappointed in that – it’s just not something that’s necessary,” Bryant said on Monday of the recent “Whoever” ad against McDaniel from the Mississippi Conservatives super-PAC. “I would urge them to stop the Republican-on-Republican attack. I believe it was Ronald Reagan who talked about the 11th commandment – thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”
Bryant has endorsed Cochran, and his former chief of staff recently left to help run Cochran’s re-election campaign. But Bryant, who has enjoyed wide tea party conservative support like McDaniel, has not criticized McDaniel or his decision to challenge a fellow Republican. Article
Hmmm.... let's see if the Gov follows those principles in 2015. Breitbart covered the race yesterday on its website. The McDaniel campaign responded with its own statement:
The "dishonest super PAC attack is further evidence that D.C. insiders like Haley Barbour and Karl Rove are desperate to retain any semblance of control by keeping their guy in office spending taxpayer money, voting for gun control, funding Obamacare, and helping Obama's federal takeover of Mississippi's education."
Let the games begin.
Kingfish note: Try to improve the comments a little. Thad is a RINO. Chris is a Tea-party kook. They are both commie klan-loving bircher radical bomb throwing nuts or sellouts who drink the blood of newly killed babies under an LSU flag when the moon is red. And they both hate iced tea. We got it. We've read those statements thousands of times. Step up the game a little. ;-)

Who is Kris McDaniel?
McDaniel doesn't need the Sarah Palin albatross 'round his neck. And we all know that if Cochran is re-elected, he'll do a Trent Lott and resign, allowing Bryant to choose a successor.
7:46 Thanks for the info. I for one did not know. You should write the Senator so he will also know.
Impressed you went to Breitbart-very good website. Giggled at your note.
Short and sweet then--no confidence vote for Cochran. Go home.
RINOs would rather shoot their own party in the foot and loose elections than actually try leaning towards conservative, which is what the base is in the first place.

Don' confuse the tea party with facts, their mind is made up. Any one who follows the congress knows that you take the bitter with the sweet.
Bryant is such a fake. He tells the Tea Party folks that he is with them all the way, one of them ya know, then goes and supports the implementation of Common Core, then goes and supports perhaps the most DESPISED Republican officeholder in Mississippi by the Tea Party types, Cochran. Bryant wants soooo very much to be a major-player on Team Haley. Will be interesting to see how the Tea Party responds to Bryant after this stuff, we will see come 2015 if they have any credibility left or fall behind Bryant like sheep with no core to them.
So the truth hurts. Wow!
Every single person in Mississippi, regardless of party preference, who wants to send a big emphatic "up yours" to Haley Barbour for his despicable end-of-term pardons should vote in the Republican primary for McDaniel.
Because it is Haley Barbour himself who is desperately trying to save Cochran.
The best way to tell Haley to shove it is to vote for McDaniel.
@9:52 Uh, no thanks. I don't throw my vote away on who is going to represent me in the United States Senate over political games. "I'm going to show Haley Barbour" or for that matter "I'm going to send a message to the establishment." You may be into cynical politics, but I value my vote more than that. I'll listen to the arguments and make a decision. I don't need your petty intraparty fights to make up my mind.
The fix is in, Pugfish. Even Ben and Leland can't help. The sky is falling. Cochran wins again.
I don't know McDaniel, he could be the devil for all I know. I do know I'm not voting for Cochran, Wicker, or Harper. When you spend a bunch of time and money fighting against conservatives instead of the liberal tyrants that are seizing control of your once great republic, I'm afraid you show where your heart and your treasure are. As for Gov. Bryant, he's playing politics, loving both sides.
Haley may have turned out to be the biggest embarrassment ever to republicans after pardoning 4 murderers and buying 2 of them cars but, Thad is our lifeline in the Washington. When he is gone, we in Mississippi will have no stroke. I, for one, will not throw that away.
Yeah, our lifeline for more deficit spending and national debt that will place more burdens on future generations than any of you RINOs can ever imagine. You got yours and screw the rest.
11:06
"Thad is our lifeline'
Do you mean leash or chain? Being free isn't being a pet of the government for whatever crumbs yo massers can bring back to you. You have been taught to swallow by these 'leaders' and forgotten how to stand on your own. Hope you can grow a spine one day.
Toejangle 6:49 Next time you don't want to say anything, don't waste our time telling us about it.
Thad is worried. And, he should be. Internal polls I've seen put tied them at 40% each, with Chris gaining with independents.
I'm told by a Thad insider (one of his major fund raisers) that the fix is in.
If Thad squeaks by Chris, then he'll almost certainly step down before his term is out. When that happens, the Gov. has agreed in principle to appoint none other than.... Gregg Harper.
Just one more reason to vote for McDaniel.
I agree with 10:55. All three of those jackwagons have put this country in the shape that it is in, Cochran more than either of the other two. How he can look any voter in the face and claim that he has helped our country is hard to fathom. We are in the shape we are in BECAUSE of politicians like him, Wicker and Harper. They may win, but they'll do it without my vote. A pox on all three of them.
Reading this has been very convincing and helped me make up my mind. I'm going to write a check to the Cochran campaign.
Enjoy the Ayn Rand Fan Club.
Vote McDaniel. A principled fiscal conservative who who't go along just to get along.

Above is a link to annual Mississippi public opinion poll conducted by a professor at MSU.
Read the hard cold data folks... If we keep sending up people like McDaniel, my grandchildren will never see a Republican president.
Our Republic was built upon ideological compromise and if we don't learn to play nice with one another, that 6% Congressional approval rating may just be the catalyst to drastically change the structure of how we govern in a 21st century information based global society
There is nothing refreshing or new about Cris McDanielle. He is 100% pandering politician. Surely we can do better.
I don't know where all these Perot/Tea party weirdos have come from but its time to put ya'll in a steel box and dump you in a deep river.
3:30 you, respectfully, are dead wrong about Chris.
I have known him personally for years. He wants to go to Washington and break the mold.
Think a reasoned and deliberate Kirk Fordice who's not afraid to take on the establishment.
He he has more in common with a Sen. Mike Lee than a Haley Barbour any day.
Hey 2:40 - I realize you are only spouting the crap being put out by the McDaniel campaign, but there is no 'fix' in as to Cochran resigning. Although now I see you (McDaniel) is deviating from their previous story that Bryant would appoint Gilbert and now it is a more believable Harper.
And that is why your story is obviously full of it. There is no way Cochran would ever cut such a deal. Other than Gilbert, Harper is not someone he would want to take his place.
But Cochran is not about to resign and hand this over to Phil as y'all keep saying. When he decided to run again, it is because he believes the Repubs can take over the Senate which will make him President ProTem for the last two years of the term.
Good game; thanks for playing. Now take your marbles and go find someone else in the playground to see if they want to join your game.
I just want to know where Chris McDaniel got his accent. I don't think too many people from Jones County sound like him.
3:14- I don't consider myself extremely intelligent, however, I'm having trouble understanding how your poll website does anything but provide support for conservative candidates. I've never seen a Whig President and there is a reason for that. The fact that your grandchildren will never see a Republican president, might just be a good thing. Right now, they appear to be fighting against us instead of for us. I beg them to provide voters with evidence that they have done what's best for the Country and not necessarily just getting funds for Mississippi. I've not seen any of that money, but I bet those in the political world have.
The more I read from some of these comments, the more amazed I become. Amazed, at how totally uninformed some individuals are who make these comments. I believe that some of you just repeat whatever you hear without a thought what-so-ever as to the merit behind it. And, do you have a clue as to who represents you in Washington, districts, etc.??? I especially loved the comment from 2:50 who stated that, Cochran, Wicker and Harper are the reason this COUNTRY is in the shape it's in - really! I had no idea they had that kind of power since they only represent Mississippi and portions, thereof! A great deal of Mississippi's problems stem from uninformed voters! If you do not know, educate yourself and do not listen to everything you are told; find out for yourself - BECOME INFORMED!!
I can think of 100 people better than Cochran, but I can think of 101 people better than McDaniel
Amazed, at how totally uninformed some individuals are who make these comments.
I'm amazed you'd think even for one minute that people would give any credence to (or a shit about) your anonymous admonition.
I'm old enough to remember the moaning when there was speculation as to the retirements of Eastland and Stennis. Oh, woe is us. No longer will Mississippi be able to survive. Our long time lifeline to Washington and the rest of America is about to be severed. Bullshit.
Espy, Harper, Thompson, Wicker, Cochran, Hinson, Dowdy...Put them all in a bag and shake them up.
5:39 nailed it. Very pithy.
Yes, Haley Barbour, the Neo-Cons Sid Salter and the Marty Wisemann at MSU's Stennis Institute are grooming a "darkhorse" candidate who is "chomping at the bits" to enter the US Senate chambers when Cochran steps down.
Columbus tort lawyer Wil Colom has friends in high places--the Bush family in particular. He's "dark" enough to take votes away from the Obama democrats and white enough to schmooze with the Bush and Barbour families.
In case the naysayers cannot believe that the Cochran/Barbour "fix" is in, check out the "Babs In A Short Skirt" memo. Yes, the sky is falling:
Following is the article from Columbus Packet, 12JUNE2003:
snip
A $250-a-plate fundraiser will be held at Old Waverly next Tuesday (June
17) for GOP gubernatorial candidate Haley Barbour.
We neglected to mention that last month (May 15) Wil Colom flew
Haley to Houston, Tex. in his Citation jet for a fundraiser sponsored by
former President George Bush. Wil's daughter, Niani, went, and
Haley's wife Barbour. The dinner was at a private residence and only ten
couples were at table, including George and Barbara Bush and the
Barbours. When we asked Wil what a plate cost, he replied, "Let's
just say you definitely weren't paying just for the meal."
Wil said Barbara Bush was wearing a blue suit with a short skirt.
He told her, I love you in that blue suit," and she replied that she
bet he liked the length too. He said he did. She told him, "George
likes it. I wear it all the time."
Wil said that Niani and George hit it off, sitting together and
talking about France, where she lived before coming to Columbus last
year.
"It was a way for the former president to do something for Haley
in Houston," Wil told us. "I'm sure he'll do a bigger one if Haley wants
it."
It occurred to us that the Citation had crashed Mississippi would
have lost both its biggest champion of tort reform and its biggest
class-action lawyer.
Pithy don't carry elections.
I neglected to mention that Colom was Noxubee county Democratic kingpin Ike Brown's defense attorney during the voter fraud trial brought against Brown by the USDOJ.
'Pithy don't carry elections. "
Why not? Because, unlike "Hope & Change", it would require two bumper stickers? Elections are being decided by low-information voters with short attention spans.
Who has the attention span, time or desire to attempt to figure out what Pugfish was trying to say at 7:20?
Neither Haley Barbour (nor his mumbling relatives) nor Salter nor Marty Wiseman will have one thing to say about the future direction of politics or politicians in this state.
barbour wakes up every day singing Merle Haggard's 'Silver Wings'. Salter is good for one thing; Wait, I forgot what it is. Wiseman is only relevant as comedic salve applied the day after an election. This triumvirate of clowns will have no more to say about Cochran's successor than Burwell will have to say about the invasion of pelicans at The Reservoir.
Salter is good for one thing;
Kissing Wiseman's feet.
McDaniel is such a breath of fresh air. He wants to shake things up.
That is so funny. If he is so fresh and wants to change the status quo, why is he not everyday trying to end SLERP. You know that's the special retirement fund for the legislators, in addition to PERS.
Yep he really is shaking up the status quo.
Reading some of these DIE-WITH-COCHRAN folks, it appears Harry Reid is posting comments.
Seems to be along the lines of---agree with me or you are a piece of &^%$.
I'm voting AGAINST Cochran and if McDaniels is that name, so be it.
Y'all don't be bashin' on Syd. Remember, Syd has a cabin at Neshoba, which makes him special. And he's well known at Tico's. He sits in the bar and waits for somebody to come in who'll pick up his supper tab in exchange for a favorable high-five in some obscure column. Otherwise, he's about as relevant as Jeff Goode.
ABC!
Anybody But Cochran.
Didn't the last Congress outlaw pork barrel politics? If so, what need do we have for Thadeus?
Retire the King-Cracker of pork barrel to a rocker at Cracker Barrel.
GOP Establishment's 'Save Cochran' Campaign Fizzling
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/02/07/GOP-Establishmen-Save-Cochran-Campaign-Fizzling
“Cochran's biggest liability is that he is an old-school appropriator in a political season in which that is a big liability. In the U.S. Senate, Cochran has voted on at least 11 occasions to raise the debt ceiling by at least $7.7 trillion over the past 24 years.”
Alan Lange is crazy for Thad.
Alan Lange is the architect behind SB 2991 (2008).
SB 2991 (2008) is one of the most racist pieces of Mississippi legislation in the past decade.
Racists support Thad Cochran.
Every statement in this comment is true.
Alan Lange is actually Tom Head. Have you ever seen both of them at the same time?
Have you ever seen both of them at the same time?
That's the same question Merv Griffin posed to Andy Kaufmann after Andy vehemently denied he was Tony Clifton.
@6:24
While I disagree with Alan's support for certain politicians, I don't care for the so-n-so is a racist type of claim.
It would appear his website is used to promote those politicians he backs, which is fine, its his website. Personally, I miss the old days when it wasn't this way.
I hope Cochran looses. I'll be doing my part and voting for anyone other than him.
9:34 Bennie Thompson and Harry Reid appreciate your support.
@February 8, 2014 at 10:50 AM
Bless your heart. You'd have to be deaf, dumb, blind, and living in a hole for the last 10 years if you think Cochran isn't supported by the Dems.
What terrifies them is the chance that Cochran won't be reelected. They have his vote on many issues so the chance that someone else will come in and NOT vote with them is why there was so much in the news earlier about dems crossing over and voting in the primary to ensure Cochran gets thru it.
Bottom line: his voting record SUCKS. If you are not happy with the ways things are currently being run, CHANGE THE PERSON UP THERE. This is NOT suppose to be some life appointment. Elect somebody, if they start 'working' for someone other than you and supporting things that you are against, fire them and hire someone else.
