The Madison Police Department issued the following press release:
Madison
Police Department began investigating a string of auto burglaries that occurred
in the City of Madison on Saturday February 22, 2014. During the course of the investigation, the
department began receiving information from credit card companies that the
stolen credit cards were being used in various locations near the Countyline
road area. Madison Police Department,
along with the Ridgeland Police Department and Jackson Police Department,
attempted to locate the individuals responsible for the auto burglaries. One of the locations where the stolen cards
were used was the Target store located on Countyline Rd.
Officers were able to obtain suspect
descriptions along with a vehicle description with the assistance of loss
prevention and video obtained from the business. On February 23, 2014 at 1252pm, the Madison
Police Department received a call from the Target store stating that the
suspects were back at this location wearing similar clothing and they were
driving a vehicle matching the vehicle used in the auto burglaries on the
previous day.
The Madison Police Department
notified the Jackson Police Department and the Ridgeland Police Department of
the suspect’s location. Assistance was
requested from the Jackson Police Department at the Target location and the
Madison Police Department dispatched units to the location. Prior to the other agencies arrival, the
suspects attempted to leave the parking lot and officers from the Madison
Police Department attempted to detain the individuals; however, the suspects
proceeded to travel southbound on Interstate 55.
Authorities from the Madison Police
Department pursued the individuals while awaiting the arrival of the Jackson
Police Department. Prior to the arrival
of other authorities, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and struck a
second vehicle near the intersection of Gallatin Street and Oakdale
Street. Both suspects were apprehended
at the location. The driver of the
second vehicle was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable
condition. Both suspects were also
treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
This matter continues to be under investigation and a more detailed
statement will be released at the conclusion.

It was twice pointed out that JPD did not respond? this is the real story here!
Need we speculate that it was a Hinds County tag?
Where is JPD when you need them? You can't ever find a JPD officer.
I can tell you from observation that taking the Madison exit with a Hinds county tag is considered "probable cause" in Madison. Pulled over every time. I'm surprised they got to drive around Madison long enough to break into anything.
Thank you for that observation, 7:02. We also profile rims and paint jobs that change color in the sunlight up in here. Please help us get that word out.
Police officers in the Kush aren't dispatched for minor crimes such as these. Y'all need to adjust your expectations.
8:10 - classic lesson on assumptions. I live in Madison and don't mind the "policy" at all. I'm just noting what I've observed on multiple occasions, some of which I was not astute enough to discern why the copy pulled the car over, other than Hinds tag. I do have cop friends. I have done ride alongs. I do realize that there are so many reasons that allow for detainment that you could almost be pulled over at any time, legally.

Bullshit. You have not done ride-alongs and you have no friggin' idea why the cops pull over any particular car simply by rubber-necking to observe a Hinds tag. No, you're not astute at all. You're just stupid. If you did have cop friends (but you are lying) you could ask any of them to tell you why cars might be pulled over. Or if you really had balls (but you're lying) you could pull over and ask the Po Po what that driver had done wrong.
Are you sure you didn't intend to claim that you observed the cop tapping out the back light-lense with his flashlight as he approached the driver's door?
7:02 and 10:04 you are full of it. Hundreds of Hinds Co citizens work at Walmart, etc in that area. I travel that same exit numerous times a day and maybe once a month you see someone pulled over. You are full of it and MPD doesn't have enough manpower to even attempt to pull over EVERY Hinds Co tag that travels into the City of Madison. BS! Policy my A$$.
JPD can't be bothered with anything more than writing speeding tickets on I-55 North. That's the only place you will find them. That's where they are located while all the crime is happening in the inter-city.
Calling BS - I certainly cannot argue with such a classy, rational and intelligent response so I won't. -7:02
Heads up play by the Target folks.
And if you hit a car with me and my family in it while running from the cops, you better hope the cops get there before I can get to my glove box.
I have PERSONALLY been pulled over by a white MPD officer at that I-55/463 intersection.
Of course, my registration was expired by a few days. I had to show my ID which proved I lived in Madison, and by the address I'm sure he knew I paid a boatload of property taxes in Madison, The City.
Yet he still pulled me - a white guy! - over.
Damn racists. And Bush's fault.
Did he tell you why he pulled you over? You do understand that you have a right to that information.
I have been lucky enough to meet several members of the Madison PD and I have found them to be very intelligent, highly articulate, well dressed bad asses and I am proud to have them serving my community and isn't it hilarious that their response time in Jackson is almost as fast as it is in Madison---Keep up the good work Chief we can all be proud of Madison PD and what it stands for !! Hey 7:02 I agree with 11:07 that the biggest load of bullshit I ever read..
The Madison Police hunt you to the ends of the Earth! or Jackson, Mississippi.
Micah,
Why are you being so redundant?
I have worked in the Madison area for over 10 years now and I have always had a Hinds county tag. The Madison PD responded promptly and most courteously to a fender bender and a theft at our office. I have never been pulled over in Madison.
Madison PD officers initiated a chase OUTSIDE of their jurisdiction. Do people really want to endorse that kind of renegade policing? JPD worked the wrecks that resulted. Madison can get ready to write some checks.
9:32, give me a break.
1) There is a bad guy who commits a crime.
2) The police apprehended the bad guy.
That's actually what we want.
If JPD only wants to deal with certain criminals, that is their choice.
I'm personally thrilled that Madison PD saw a crime and caught the ones who committed the crime.
Police are paid to do a certain job. Not paid enough, and its a hard and dangerous job.
Madison PD did their job and we're proud of them.
What should have happened was MPD radio Ridgeland and Jackson and the three work together to catch the bad guy. But someone didn't show up to the dance. Don't expect me to buy your load when our guys stepped up and handled the situation.
1:58, tell it to the 75-year-old who ended up in critical condition.
I am all for better pay. Maybe if the officers in question made more money, they'd know how to follow their policies and procedures.
Feb 24 @ 3:04 - read it again (Feb 24 at 12:34.
I said my registration tag was expired.
