Study Shows True Cost of State’s Failure to Expand Medicaid

There was a new study released yesterday concerning the Affordable Care Act on Mississippi. An Economic Analysis of The State and Local Impact of Medicaid Expansion in Mississippi
is the most recent and detailed description of how our state’s economy
will be impacted because we have not accepted the new process of federal
funding for health care services.
If
our state accepted the federal law, 217,000, of which 182,000 are
uninsured, would be able to enroll in the new insurance program. Federal
funds of $8.7 Billion would directly enter our economy and $14.1
Billion in new economic activity including the creation of more than
19,000 jobs during from 2014 through 2020.
“State
leadership has decided it is not in the best interest of our citizens
to ensure they are covered by the new federal health law. Mississippians
are asking them to reconsider their position in light of economic
development opportunities, job creation, new funds in our economy and
the devastating outcome their decision is having and will have on
hospitals throughout our state,” said Rep. Bobby Moak of the Mississippi
House Democratic Caucus.
Moak added, “We are seeing cutbacks in hospital personnel now. In 2014, our hospitals will be saddled with $145 Million Dollars in federal Medicare cuts alone. From 2014 through 2020, hospitals in Mississippi will face $2.2 Billion in cuts. There is no way our state budget can cope with the loss of these funds next year, let alone over the next 7 years. It
is an economically devastating forecast for our state because a few
people have decided a partisan stand is more important than our citizens
or our economy.”

Fat Bobby will never answer the question as to how many jobs did the CHIP program create?
Their numbers for job creation are about as reliable as the numbers used to predict the downtown Jackson gold rush.
Don't forget the federal money may stop then guess who's stuck to pay of or these people.
It's unconscionable that a family in Mississippi making $5,000 a year is too rich to qualify for Medicaid, and too poor to qualify for subsidies under Obamacare. This is simply wrong; and it's wrong to refuse to expand Medicare to cover the very poor in Mississippi.
Your numbers are wrong Dees. Stop exaggerating.
There are too many poor folk in MIssissippi and the way the Medicaid expansion is set up it will bankrupt the state in few years. Move to Detroit if you want fiscal irresponsibility. There is a better way. Obamcare is a lemon for all as we are seeing.
Obamacare continues to implode.
I love it.
If the Mississippi House Democratic Caucus wants the expansion so bad, then let them pay for it. No one knows how much its going to cost, but one thing is sure by law they are all required to have insurance or pay a tax to the IRS
1. Where did that 19,000 figure come from? It's purely imaginary.
2. Where did Dees get his %5000 disqualifier figure? It's purely inaccurate.
3. Where did 7:41 get the idea that the federal money may disappear? There's no 'may' to it. It's gone in three years. Then you'll really experience 'spreading the wealth' when your state taxes multiply by 5.
Chokwe's plan for an African Nation may have been more realistic than we figured. Working white people will be driven out of states like Mississippi. Can't afford the taxes and we refuse to 'work for the state tax system'. Half our income will be confiscated to pay for the needs and wants of the underpriveleged, non working and tainted.
States like Mississippi will be left with non-working Hispanics and African Americans. Who will water the money-tree?
Several jobs will be created. Chokwe will be King and Tom Head can be Vice King in charge of socio-metric boards.
Money is everything.
Whether or not our Nation is healthy shouldn't matter at all.
Let's just continue to have more kids who grow up unable to function because their basic needs weren't met. Serves them right for having such bad parents.
And, we certainly have no moral obligation to improve our society or help those in need.
We succeeded all on our own. We didn't need anybody to teach us or help us along the way! We didn't need good employees. They wouldn't have worked a lick if it weren't for us.
I am a former Tea Party member (all my adult life) and MS refusing to allow insurance help for the WORKING poor has cost the Repub. party my vote
He cites Medicare cuts, not Medicaid. If Moak wants the State to pick up the tab every time a federal cut is made he is fooling himself.
Here is the Bryant plan. Lose face and take the Medicaid expansion, but condition a plan to the legislature to create a state health plan with specific, regional health targets that match disability and mortality rates on a county level. Network independent doctors into groups based on hospital service areas to improve quality and outpatient care. Become a national model for state health delivery that demonstrates improved reporting, payment, cost transparency, provider organization, and sustainable state fiscal structuring of healthcare outlays. It would be an acknowledgement of doctors and lawmakers that the ACA can be state-modified to improve the fiscal and general health.
Without a Bryant plan we have rich docs giving $18M to foreign populations and a few minutes to the sick citizens of this state.
The new federalism is a version of the Nixon block grant of the 70s. If Mississippi buys into it, the state economy along with 'the creatives' will get boost. The fiscal health of PERS, state government, and the city of Jackson would benefit. If the money actually does improve longterm health, the workforce would be more attractive to 'advanced manufacturing' or any business ventures.
Having Medicaid does not stop these folks of all color from stuffing their faces and having unprotected sex. They are fat, the kids are fat and all they ignore doctors who tell them to lose weight. Many of the doctors that treat the poor or the fat in denial are fat too. Throwing tax dollars at is is no different than throwing more money at JPS. Thinning the herd is the solution let them make changes to their lifestyle instead of subsidizing it. Put them on a diet (take away EBT card) and health care for the poor becomes affordable.

You've been a Tea Party member all your adult life? LMAO. What are you, 23 years old, maybe 24? Stop the bad comedy.
And, we certainly have no moral obligation to improve our society or help those in need.
We certainly do not have a government mandated moral obligation to do either.
Ok, ok, welfare (SSI) assholes. Mom should not a get a check for ADHD or slow learning BS. I'm cool with helping pay for the meds, BUT NO CHECK FOR MOM TO SIT ON HER ASS AT THE HOUSE! This money is tax free. Let me tell you a true story. Lazy breeder with 7 kids (100 fold in good ole Mississippi). She says there all slow learners, ADHD. Added up what she is getting a month, just for the kids - she is getting $4970.00, tax free!! And mom is on SSI as well, so add another 710, BOOM!! $5680.00 a month she does not have to pay any tax. Why would she want to work to take care of her brood. Hmmm, IT'S YOUR TAX DOLLARS PPL!! Kill SSI and welfare payments, pay for the meds is cool. No pay to sit at home!
1 things for sure - it's time to get folks off those porches, outta those cars, and put those able to WORK. It's past time to STOP seeing how many of your family, friends, buddies, dope selling thugs can get qualified for all the Assistance Programs and get them back to their original intent-- to help those that for whatever reason can't help themselves.

Here is the link to Medicaid eligibility guidelines:

See the bottom row for the income level limits for low income parents. A low-income family of three can only make $368 a month (net income) for the parents to be covered. Though I think he was referring to the family of one category with gross income limits of $403 per month. 403 x 12 = 4836 < 5000. Simple math.
So you are Dees 9:22 AM?
