Former Congressman Chip Pickering will become the CEO at COMPTEL the trade association for the telecommunications industry. COMPTEL announced on its website:
that former Mississippi Congressman Chip Pickering has been named as its CEO, effective January 2, 2014. Jerry James, who has served as COMPTEL’s CEO for the past six and a half years, plans to pursue new ventures in the telecom private sector.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I applaud Jerry for his great dedication to the mission of COMPTEL. I look forward to working with Jerry in the future, as I know he will continue making valuable contributions to our dynamic industry,” said Dale Schmick, COMPTEL chairman and COO of YourTel America Inc. “We welcome Chip to COMPTEL, and are confident that his experience and knowledge of the telecom sector will offer a strong foundation as the association continues its leadership in advocating for pro-competitive, pro-consumer policies and legislation.”
“For more than 30 years, COMPTEL has been a significant force for change in the communications industry – from the break-up of AT&T, to the passage of the ’96 Telecom Act and ushering in of the information age,” Pickering said. “COMPTEL’s advocacy work has been responsible for creating an environment that fostered billions of dollars of investments, product and service innovation and hundreds of thousands of new jobs.”
“I commend Jerry for his stewardship, leaving the association in a strong position to continue its advocacy and support its members’ business development activities. I am looking forward to joining COMPTEL as the industry embarks on another great era of change, and hope that by working with policymakers and other industry stakeholders we, together, can develop a path for fostering greater competition and sparking new innovations in the way consumers communicate, learn and receive the vital services they need,” Pickering added.
"I am proud of our accomplishments over the past six years as we have expanded our membership and strengthened COMPTEL’s reputation as the effective voice for the competitive industry. COMPTEL is well positioned and on a clear path to accomplish its goals for the future with Chip at the helm," said James. "I am sincerely grateful for the support I've received from the Board of Directors, our members and our employees. I wish COMPTEL and this group continued success in the endeavors that are on the horizon.”

His ex-wife and boys are featured in the latest addition of the Ms.Business Journal in an article called "Creating Success".God bless her.
I have to ask. Did Chip marry the other woman? I never heard.
Saw the article and the picture of his ex-wife and five boys. She seems to be doing really good. I'm glad.
Let's please not turn this into a shitstorm involving family matters. I realize that's an impossible request for this board. I'm assuming he is quite capable of assuming this task and hopefully will create opportunities for Mississippi businesses, politics and insults aside.
he created the shitstorm by being a dictionary quality hypocrite. HE put his wife and family in campaign ads on tv and bragged about being a devout Christian and missionary to Russis [wasn't quite the truth]. He's a complete disgrace to an otherwise fine family.
Dear 4:00,
The shitstorm would be well warranted. But since you asked so nicely, I'll refrain from calling Chip or that other woman the names they earned.
"Poodle" Pickering has never worked a day in his life.
Chip has never created opportunities for anyone but himself.
5:56 is partially correct, by trading in the mother of his children on a wealthy woman, he might be 'creating' wealth planning opportunities for those 5 boys.
Upon on retiring from Congress, Chip claimed that MP's Kemper Gasification Facilty was the "crowning achievement of his thirtee-years in Congress." Chip was doing the Southern Company bidding. Chip also introduced a bill in the House to repeal the FDR-era 1934 Public Utility Company Holding Act(PUCHA)... a bill said to have been written by the Southern Company legal staff in Atlanta. The "other woman" is a scion of the Creekmore(C-SPIRE) family. Not to detract from the just accomplishments of this family, but it's good to have a father who was the roommate of the King of Pork, Jamie Whitten, at Ole Miss. But the low interest REA loans were good for the rural folk of Mississippi, the Creekmore family and Bell Telephone Company, which did not want to string wire into the rural folk of sparsely-populated Mississippi.
Jimmy Giles!!!
Belhaven says HELLO!
I'd sure rather have Jim Giles in a fight than the 'grass is always greener $$$' Pickering.
Now he will attempt to kill the 'Obama phone' since he is the president of the phone industry.
I don't know the man but I passed him on the street downtown in 20 degree winter wind without a hat or coat. He looked like a mentally tortured soul. I recall that he had just had an affray with a man in Madison County. I pray he gets right with the Lord Jesus-who does love him. No man is righteous in himself.
Hes fallable as we all are. Made mistakes. But now...hes rich bitch!
I just can't imagine why he'd be chosen to lead anything.
Why would his word be trusted ?
Isn't " image" important for a trade association?
Isn't " image" important for a trade association?
Well, Chip did make a cameo appearance in a Borat movie. Don't know if his name appeared in the movie's credits.
Yes...8:07 am I guess being a joke both on and off the big screen is appealing in a way
Chip needs some more recreation soccer coaches to punch. That would make for a great Borat sequel scene
I criticized Jimmy Giles. Is that now off limits on this board?
Comptel still exists? That was Bernie's old stomping grounds. Who is even left for there to be an association?
Poodle Pickering is not man enough to come mix it up on this board. Not by a long shot. Thank you Belhaven for the support!
Didn't he have a whole other family living in Cambridge apts?
