What a surprise.

David Ware has roughly a thousand vote over Johnny Dupree with one box to go. Then the box comes in very late.... I'll let the Hattiesburg American tell the story:

The final ballot box to be counted in Hattiesburg’s mayoral election, and the one that has served as the cornerstone for Mayor Johnny DuPree’s successful runs for the office, arrived at City Hall five hours after polls closed Tuesday, padlocked, but without a required seal.

The box from Rowan precinct, which voted 91.4 percent for Dupree in his race against challenger Dave Ware, did not make its way to downtown Hattiesburg until midnight, and when it got there, it was not tagged with a seal as state law stipulates.

“I don’t know if they ran out of them there, but it did not have a seal,” Ward 4 Election Commissioner Turner Jones said Wednesday morning. “It had a padlock on it, but it didn’t have the seal.”

That seal, which acts as an anti-tampering device, was attached after the box finally arrived from a precinct with a history of not only being one of the city’s largest, but also one of the last to close shop and transport the ballots to be counted. Article

Ware's lead shrunk to 32 votes after Rowan was counted. Just like the good ole days in New Orleans.

The fix is in.

Dave Ware may be too tired to fight this again. I hope he won't give Dupree that satisfaction.

You guys are something else. There are a gazillion federal and state monitors watching every move in Hattiesburg in the election yesterday, and you still delusionally accuse Mayor Dupree, who is currently behind in the race, of stealing the election. Whichever candidate wins, that person will be the legimately elected Mayor of Hattiesburg. I'll be the first to say that if Mr. Ware wins.

And nobody knows what the final vote count will be.

10:16 Moron. Not having the seal on the ballot box violates state law. Why didn't any of your "gazillion" monitors notice that?

It might be a reason to force a third election.

The law is very simple. No seal on the box; therefore, not a valid box .

I can't wait to see how this ends.

Notice that 10:16 doesn't deny that the Rowan box was not sealed.

10:16's spin is almost verbatim the same coming out of the Eichelcottonburger camp.

Which means that the Waterboy and Precious know that an unsealed box is a big, big deal.

Was dear old "EDDIE MYERS" hanging around that precinct????? Where oh where has Eddie been now???

What a shocker: The Repubs. want to disenfranchise a large group of citizens by throwing out a whole padlocked box of votes based upon a technicality, the "seal" issue. And it's purely coincidence that 90+ percent of those votes went for Mayor Dupree. If it was the other way around and 90+ percent of the votes were for Mr. Ware, we wouldn't hear a peep about a seal.

Note to Repub. True Believers who frequent the comments: My prediction is that every one of the votes in the padlocked but allegedly unsealed box will be counted. The law does not favor disenfranchising a large group of citizens over a technicality. Of course, this doesn't mean that Mayor Dupree will win the election again. The winner is of yet undetermined, though Mr. Ware leads currently.

Will this box be counted??

What does the law say?

Anonymous said...

It's a violation of law to break the utility seal on your electric meter. It's a violation of law to not seal a ballot box whether or not padlocked. Stupidity and ignorance have consequences (sometimes).

Anonymous said...

How odd that Tom Head is posting the same message as 7:18 AM elsewhere on the net. Wouldn't be the first time Head wanted to disregard the law for convenience sake.

Jane said...

There's just no excuse for getting it that wrong TWICE.

Anonymous said...

Why did the box not arrive until midnight, five hours after the polls closed? Is traffic that bad in Hattiesburg?

Anonymous said...

and it's purely coincidence that the box from this same precinct continually has a seal missing and is late arriving each time....

and it's sad that Tom Head accuses Democrats of not caring about the sanctity of elections and that only Republican care about having valid, true elections. I disagree with him. I believe most want valid elections, and only want to disregard the safeguards when it benefits their donkey

Anonymous said...

Dupree needed it at the very end in order to determine how many votes he needed in the last box based on the results tabulated from the others.

NOW you see why Lt. Robert Graham of the Jackson Police Department and Stokes want vote "counting" to take place in the precincts.

9:41 hit the nail RIGHT on the head!

I like Delbert, but since he had pictures of himself standing around in Hattiesburg all day monitoring the election, how come he wasn't standing around the "Rowan" box, since it is a known problem. And how come he didn't roll the troops when it was one hour late? Two hours late? Three? etc.

I'm a Ware supporter....That is, I'd vote for him if I lived in Hattiesburg.

That said, the missing seal thing was not as ominous as it sounds. SOS office and DOJ were with the box the whole time according to a newer story from HA. What at first smelled fishy turns out to be turnips cooking instead.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Ware supporter, for throwing water on the hysteria some folks on here want to start over some technicality. What's weird is that they're already wailing about "the fix's being in," Mr. Ware better file suit again, blah blah, and Mr. Ware could easily keep his lead and win the race.

Whoever wins, he won fair and square, notwithstanding any bogus conspiracy theories conjured up by anonymous coomenters on JJ. And whoever Tom Head is, I'm not him, not Donna Ladd, not one of her cronies, nor am I any of the other people I'm always accused of being on here.

Anonymous said...

Pamela Weaver, who used to be a reporter from WDAM if I am not mistaken, and who is now Dilbert Hosemans Communications Director was the rep from the state at the SOS office. I am almost 99.9% sure she is not an atty, so how can she be qualified to observe for the SOS?

SEC. 23-15-247. Ballot boxes.

The commissioners of election in each county shall procure, if not already provided, a sufficient number of ballot boxes, which shall be distributed by them to the voting precincts of the county before the time for opening the polls. The boxes shall be secured by good and substantial locks, and, if an adjournment shall take place after the opening of the polls and before all the votes shall be counted, the box shall be securely locked, so as to prevent the admission of anything into it, or the taking of anything from it, during the time of adjournment; and the box shall be kept by one of the managers and the key by another of the managers, and the manager having the box shall carefully keep it, and neither unlock or open it himself nor permit it to be done, nor permit any person to have any access to it during the time of adjournment. The box shall not be removed from the polling building or place after the polls are opened until the count is complete, if as many as three (3) qualified electors object. After each election the ballot boxes shall be delivered, with the keys thereof, to the clerk of the circuit court of the county for preservation; and he shall keep them for future use, and, when called for, deliver them to the commissioners of election.

Sending someone to ride in a separate car from the ballot box is not “accompanying” anything; nor is it securing the integrity of the election. Why didn’t Mrs. Easton simply take a seal to the precinct, record the number, and put it on the ballot box before it left the building? Why did Turner Jones make misleading statements, or was he misinformed? This incident raises more questions than it answers and none are comforting for many citizens of Hatteisburg.

And I'm not you ... Thank God.

It is the Cottonmouth losers posting here and Tom Head.

Read their Twitter feeds. Verbatim what they are posting on JJ.

So if it isn't Eichelwanker himself it is one of 3 other people.

The Cottondonkeycult does everything but come right out and say the Rowan box is 100% per the letter of the law. They can't because they know there is a problem. Thus the spin and gymnastics.

If the box without the seal was one of the Ware strongholds they'd be hollering at the top of their lungs that the box violates the law.

Anonymous said...

Morons, locks have keys, and boxes go into cars to be driven to courthouse. this is why a seal is vital. seals cannot be unlocked, but only broken.

Anonymous said...

Chump Eichelwanker just outed himself. But what he didn't reveal is that he is also attached at the hip to Brandon Jones. JJ readers in Hattiesburg be sure to take note. The same Brandon Jones who is Dupree's attorney and who assaulted the proprietor of the Hattiesburg Patriot on Tuesday night.

It's simple - THROW OUT THE BOX WITH NO SEAL!!!! It's not ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!

From WDAM twitter:

Mike McDaniel ‏@McDanielWDAM 4h
...she says she was in another car while the poll manager and another worker were in the car with the box... and the key #wdam #haelex

Key and the box in the same car with no seal. I say toss the whole box out.

Read it and weep, Ware supporters. The statute isn't as black and white (HA!) as everyone seems to think. Very subjective, and you can bet that the subjectivity will be used to favor the incumbent. As we have painfully learned in the last several years, no one wants to be called a racist.

To everyone attributing the missing seal to malice - tomorrow contact your election commissioner to perform the civic duty of being trained and working the polls. You'll all do that, right?

Well 9:22 PM, apparently someone needs too because they have had 2 shots at this and still can't get it right.

Following tweets on H’burg

“Election Commission rules to accept all the challenged ballots at the Train Depot.”

“Election Commission then rules that no ballots can be challenged by Ware camp on future precinct boxes”

“that was a big blow for the Ware camp. There may have been over 50 challenged ballots at Train Depot”

Mayor Dupree now leads Mr. Ware by 118 votes. The counting of absentee votes will resume tomorrow. That's a big margin for Mr. Ware to overcome this late in the game. Anything can happen, but it appears to me likely that Mayor Dupree has beaten him again. Maybe now after losing again, Mr. Ware will accept reality and stop filing lawsuits to overturn elections.

The Fat Reverend Ben Hairley said...

Now in full victim mode comes the hypocrisy of the Eichelegotron on behalf of himself, the temper tantrum Waterboy and their stable of irked Donkeycrats.

Po' wittle Matty deplores the "very public brutalization" of Hattiesburg Mayor II and that this heinousness "will make it nigh impossible for whomever wins to govern".

The Democratic Thrust "Communication Director" then heaves an outcry about a weaponized Twitter as "the main tool of this assault" and summarily convicts "the Hattiesburg media" as "AT LEAST an accessory to the crime".

No regular reader here will be surprised then that Fraudberger avoids the mention that not only is he Dupree lawyer Brandon Jones' virtual donkey twin but that he was himself a brutalizer via Twitter anonymously behind the Cottonkiddieclub account (until being exposed on JJ) while depositing the exact same droppings in paragraph form here -- anonymously of course -- on JJ.

Dumb and dumber Donkeycrats.

Hey Fat, I'm sure you'll be the first Repub. to congratulate Mayor Dupree for beating your man twice now, IF the Mayor's 118 vote lead holds. The parts of your comments that are even intelligible are not only misguided but are irrelevant to the fact that your man may get thumped again.

The only person whining here is you. And Fat, there are no victims here, only grown men running against each other for Mayor and that includes your candidate(although one might say that your man is a "victim" of getting his ass beat twice now).

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
