More information on the CCJ bust and others

Good news for Jacksonians today. JPD arrested several individuals suspected of participating numerous burglaries and home invasions recently. WLBT reported on the arrest of several suspects who robbed a home on St. Andrews last week and shot several times at the homeowners:

An off-duty police officer was assisting a manager at the Grove Apartments with an apartment inspection and noticed several items in an apartment. On Friday the JPD Narcotics Unit was acting off drug hotline tip at the Grove apartments. The officer advised the JPD Narcotics Unit about the items insides an apartment. Eventually homicide detectives received consent to search the apartment. Two people were arrested for drug misdemeanors there.

Police recovered an ipad engraved with the St. Andrews Drive victim's name on it, jewelry, several TV's, and a 22 caliber pistol was recovered from a trash bin.

Jarrett Terry confessed to the home invasion. He's charged with two counts of armed robbery, one count of house burglary, and one count of auto theft.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Vincent Smith in connection with the case. Rest of the story, including video

Mr. Smith lives at 304 Melrose in NE Jackson. Home is owned by Christopher J. Smith and Vickie L. Crump.

Have we seen this little scumbag before? Yes we have. You may remember the "Scooter burglar". WJTV reported in MARCH:

Arrest on nine charges in March and breaking into houses in August?

Anonymous said...

Well, IF (and a big one) law enforcement types are on top of things, his bond should be revoked on the March charges, and he should stay locked up indefinitely.

KF, I don't understand. 6 counts of burglary and not in jail? Any way to find where the system failed? Police arrest, then what is happening?

Hinds County Justice System ... a World of Incompetence!

Anonymous said...

does the fact that homicide detectives were called in imply that
attempted murder might be a charge?

Anonymous said...

We deserve some answers on why this lunatic was and is still roaming the streets!

Anonymous said...

What is the address/location of the "Grove Apartments?"

Anonymous said...

Don't we have a home invasion charge now? And one against the elderly? Or did I dream that.

Anonymous said...

There is no 'attempted murder' charge in Mississippi.

I will say that there is a noticeable uptick in arrests since Chief Horton was appointed. JPD appears to have upped their game. Unfortunately, they can arrest all day and if the courts let the perps all walk the same scumbags will continue to prey on everyone else. 12:12 if you want answers talk to the judge.

The only good thing about this story is that it seems to me that the JPD is doing a much better job of catching the bad guys than they did under Chief Coleman, whom the rank and file officers despised because of how she treated them. The officers I know like and respect the new Chief, who appears to be doing a very good job.

I was a big Jonathan Lee supporter and worked hard against Mr. Lumumba. When he got elected, I feared the worst, as did many Jacksonians, white and black. Thankfully, at least so far, the new Mayor is running the City well. I for one am glad I was wrong about him.

yes, there is a charge of attempted murder in Mississippi. it was seldom used because the penalty was only 10 years. its now been revised.

at JPD, detectives are assigned to various divisions. "Robbery and Homicide" is one such division. so they are both robbery detectives and homicide detectives.

the municipal court judges, mostly imcompetent, set the release conditions on most crimes. they rarely bother to look at priors or Section 29 which allows bond to be denied in certain cases.

The Grove is off North State Street. The suspect they are looking for now lives on Melrose behind Colonial Mart.

Is there a way to find out who the judge was that let him out in March? I

This is the kind of stuff Safe City used to be good at tracking. Hate they're gone.

Kudos to the legislature for recently crafting and passing a bill that became law to inact an 'attempted murder statute'. Too long in coming.

Yeah, HB 28. Bill Denny's bill that he's worked on passing for years. But don't tell Dorsey, Cecil and the Eichelmouth.

You want Hinds Co judges to deny bail more often?

Hinds Co has the highest jail population in the State.

Pay for more guards and more food and more medical care in the budget and judges/the prosecutor's office, won't have to take budget into consideration!

Oh...forgot...no taxes for anything.

Are you really that stupid 2:27 pm or are you just funning? There is more than enough $$$$ to keep these bottom feeders off the street. and your knee jerk comment about hinds county having the "highest jail population" is only because most of the crimes are being committed in Hinds County..DUH! Hey, I got it...maybe this thug can comes stays with you and you can help us poor tax payers out a little!

2:27 pm you are a naïve idiot. When will you finally put the bastards in jail, after they murder somebody. It's people like you, who have a lame excuse for everything that perpetuates crime. We aren't talking about petty offenses, we're talking serious felonies with shots fired, etc. Maybe if your lame ass was lighted up, you'd sing a different song.

As a law enforcement officer I have seen many people arrested and let go by the judges. They don't care about public safety especially in election year. Also if someone is out on bond for a FELONY CHARGE and gets arrested for another FELONY they are supposed to be kept in jail with no bond. But like I said judges are elected(well except for municipal judges). Municipal judges have to keep the Mayor and Board of Aldermen happy too.

Just something to ponder, bear with me here....Several years ago my vehicle was burglarized on a random weekday morning on North State Street. The perpetrator was arrested several days later by Flowood PD on a misdemeanor drug charge in the parking lot of a Rankin county business where my stolen items were discovered in the vehicle. After investigative cooperation between Flowood PD, JPD, private security, and other area law enforcement, in addition to the Hinds co. offense, he was also charged with auto burglary and grand larceny in none other than Madison County. His mugshot looked very similar to Mr. Smith above other than a 3 years difference in age. His residence of record was in Rankin County, granted I have no idea where he truly lived. He was given 5 years in the MDOC. I'm not a criminal justice type so I don't know if that fits the crime or not. My point is I'm not certain these criminals think along the lines of county's and judge's conviction rates as their primary consideration, but I could be wrong. I think they're simply willing to take low hanging fruit from whoever offers it and when it is least expected.
I'll agree that statistically your location of residence in the Metro area affects your risk, but fact of the matter is nobody is 100% protected and whether we like it or not we're sorta all in this together. Stay safe my friends.

Anonymous said...

Somebody do math, please.
Does politics sometimes enter into the equation? Sure.
But, do any of you know what it costs per day? Or how many guards per prisoner?

Anonymous said...

... but fact of the matter is nobody is 100% protected and whether we like it or not we're sorta all in this together. ...

Yada, yada, yada.

wonder where vincent smith could be hiding. domestic violence, drugs, burglary, armed robbery.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
