A John Doe filed a lawsuit in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia yesterday against Jerry Sandusky, Penn State University, and Second Mile.
The plaintiff accuses Mr. Sandusky of sexually abusing him between 1992 and 1995 and that it occurred over 100 times. He asked for damages in excess of $50,000 and any other relief the court deems "appropriate. Here is a copy of the lawsuit:

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Hopefully this will spur on the other victims to come forward and fry this sicko.
Penn State, The Second Mile and Sandusky are about to be bent over and screwed.
Ironic, isn't it?
As usual, though, we'll see a whole lotta people jumping on the lawsuit bandwagon (with lawyers like Alred) who never were abused by Sandusky.
Sandusky, Penn State, Second Mile... Your new speaker-elect here in Mississippi is no better than anybody in Pennsylvania... Mr. Gunn is being ask a lot of question about his role in the pedophile mess in Clinton!
6:32, you're completely out of line on this one. Philip Gunn advised his clients to not talk to anyone without a subpoena, and plenty of attorneys give that same advice every day. To say that he's no better than anybody in Pennsylvania simply means that you either don't know what happened in Pennsylvania or you don't know what happened in Clinton. Morrison Heights followed the law then and is still following the law today. How hard is it to get a subpoena? Follow the process, and then if they don't cooperate you might have a reason to question Gunn's advice. At this point he's just being a good lawyer. Bill Billingsley
Bill, you are right.
But, good lawyers don't have to represent everyone who walks through their door. And,good politicians would run from this sort of unnecessary controversy.
Was Gunn court appointed? Is his practice criminal defense?
I see Phillip Gunns' practice is "insurance defense, civil litigation, with cases ranging from premises liability and wrongful death to divorce and automobile accidents "( torts??? )." his clients include home builders, trucking lines, construction firms and a variety of manufacturers.
So, it reads like Mr. Gunn is a generalist and doesn't really specialize in one area of the law.
So, the Clinton case is a civil suit?
You might have more luck getting a bite on your hook if you fished over at the little bitty Cottonberger pond.
Is Gunn representing Morrison Heights and not Langworthy? So how is Morrison Heights different from Penn State that hired Sandusky? Why wouldn't the church ( like Penn State) want to fully cooperate if they were unaware of Langworthy's " inappropriate contact with young men" in Texas and Mississippi? If they were aware and wanted to give Langworthy another chance, believing he'd " changed", then why not admit their " mistake" , take responsibility and atone? Isn't being Christian first with a church?
This seems JUST like Penn State to me ...more concern about liability than principles in institutions that are suppose to be all about principles and teaching young people how to lead upstanding lives? Like Penn State, this smacks of more concern about the wallet than protecting children.
Politically, Gunn should have handed this off to some associate in the firm assuming the church is his client .If it's HIS church , representation is still a bad idea. It's worse still if he was on the hiring committee. As an uninformed member of the congregation, he should be angry that the young people of his church were placed at risk by a failure to do due diligence or else content for a full investigation if due diligence didn't reveal the risk.
This smells of a Penn State like cover-up, Bill, sorry but I did start reading and it just does.
Fair enough - everyone's entitled to his opinion. Since you seem intent on turning the thread into an attack on Philip Gunn and away from the Penn State story, I feel like I need to make a couple of disclosures. Philip Gunn is a friend of mine and I supported him in his effort to become Speaker, so I'm biased toward his side of this issue. However, I have no inside information - I only know what I read in the media. That said, I'll comment on your post. First, it's common practice for attorneys to provide pro bono or reduced rate legal services to the churches they attend, so this might not have been something that Gunn could hand off to someone else in the firm. Second, what specifically was covered up at Morrison Heights? That a long time employee had admitted a sexual indiscretion with a minor some 20 years before? I'll give you that. That information was discovered after the church appropriately conducted an internal investigation after getting a call from a victim in Texas. Apparently the church decided that Langworthy was not a danger to anyone and allowed him to continue his employment. I say apparently because that's internal personnel information that is rarely disclosed outside of the entity, whether that entity is a church or a chicken plant. If the reporting laws were followed, which we have no reason to believe they weren't, then there was no illegal activity at Morrison Heights to cover up. Again, it's common when representing someone who could end up on the wrong end of a lawsuit to advise them not to speak without a subpoena, so that can't be considered a cover up either. The authorities can issue a subpoena and I believe the church executives will answer any questions law enforcement may have. Insistence on a subpoena simply protects the board of elders from a fishing expedition by politically motivated law enforcement. BB
The main difference between Morrison Heights and Penn State is that there isn't a shred of evidence that points to any level of abuse at Morrison Heights. IF there is a legal requirement in Mississippi to report child sexual abuse regardless of the jurisdiction and IF Morrison Heights broke that law by not reporting Langworthy after his admission of guilt, then I'll join you in calling for their heads. However, if there is no requirement for reporting 20 year old out of state crimes, or if MH properly but quietly reported Langworthy to the authorities, then it's exactly the opposite of the Penn State situation. BB
Finally, the fact that Philip Gunn took this on knowing that he might suffer political fallout shows me that he's a man of integrity who isn't afraid to take up the battle for something he believes. The public is not privy to the internal discussions at Morrison Heights because that's the law, so it's unlikely that we'll ever know what role Gunn played in all this. I still believe as I always have - Philip Gunn is a fine man, a good Christian and will be an excellent Speaker of the House. BB
I got an email from someone I don't know addressed something like "Voters in Ward 56" yesterday, full of ad hominem attacks on this guy over this issue. There seems to be some sort of vendetta against him. I live in Madison and have never heard of him before this last election when it became likely he would be the next speaker, so I can only surmise they ar e blanketing the state with emails slandering this guy.
I commend Gunn as an attorney to represent his client to the best of his ability and honor the legal protections afforded every citizen. This is his obligation as an attorney.
If the client is guilty of a crime. Follow the process and let the hands of justice take hold.
Anyone criticizing his actions ought to consider handing over their presumption of innocence and volunteer for prison.
Bill.... this is 6:32. 'Completely out of line' that’s some strong terms. Seems to me you might have some skin in this game. You, like so many Joe P. supporters might being wearing blinders. This, in my estimation goes way past lawyer client mumbo-jumbo. Mr. Gunn is a ELDER at MH in this situation first. If there is any doubt in a situation of this sort… err on the side of protecting children is using just ‘good ole horse sense‘. He is also is going to lead LAWMAKERS in this state. So, with that said and conveniently left out in your response to my posting... It might be that you sir are out of line!
Has he been accused of any crimes here in Mississippi?
11:26 You are an idiot.
I am assuming that 'he' is Mr. Gunn. Just like the Penn State mess, this goes beyond the LAW! It's just the plan old fact of doing the right thing. As far as laws broken, I hope that is looked in to. Being and elder and church leader first would have been a good reason for Mr. Gunn to stay out of this in his capacity as a lawyer…
The idiot posting about Gunn is obviously a political operative who subscribes to that trash over at cottongin. The obvious threadjack and attempt to slander is over the top.
Take it back to the cottonmill, you all can wallow in innuendo and accusations where there is no story.
Sorry Cecil but Gunn WILL be Speaker of the MS House.
May be a strong comment, but I stand by it. Don't know what you mean by skin in the game, but I'm certainly no supporter of Joe Paterno. I didn't like him that much before the Sandusky mess.
However, since you persist in trying to make everyone believe the two cases are the same, I'll try again. There is absolutely no hint of abuse at Morrison Heights, while it's alleged that the abuse at Penn State took place in the facility. Unless it comes out that Langworthy wasn't reported to the authorities, the only thing that's remotely similar to the Penn State situation is that he was allowed to continue in his employment. While I don't agree with that, I respect the right for the church to make that decision. Further, I haven't seen any reports of enraged parents or any other disagreement with the members of the church. Do you find that curious? I didn't see any outcry from the members even after he addressed the congregation and admitted the wrongdoing in Texas. They know the situation better than we do, so if they're okay shouldn't we be as well? This is a politically motivated attack, and to compare Philip Gunn to Joe Paterno is, again, completely out of line. Gunn's role as an elder makes him one of several who are entrusted to guide the church. No one knows what happened during the investigative process because that's confidential information, but this never was Gunn's decision alone. It may be your opinion that he's somehow unfit to be a leader of lawmakers but I don't agree. Do I wish that Langworthy had been immediately canned and everything brought to light? Yes. Do I wish that Philip Gunn had stayed as far away from this as he could have? Yes. However, I support Gunn and the church having the right to make their decisions, and unless someone at MH broke the law the attack on Philip Gunn should stop. BB
11:52 You seem to have a reading comprehension problem. The "he" being referred to is not Mr Gunn but rather the guy who admitted committing some crime(s) in TEXAS 20 years ago. The made (I think by KF) was that there is no accusation he committed any similar crime in MISSISSIPPI in the last 20 years or so.
No one accused Mr Gunn of any crime in any state at any time AFAIK.
Since there seems to be some obsession on someone's part, and the Speaker vote hasn't taken place yet, anyone care to speculate who is behind this example of the "politics of personal destruction"? Who would benefit if he dropped out of the Speaker's race?
On a lighter note:
The Peacocks have received a pardon! Peacocks all the way around!
Way to go Mary!
12:00.... I think the guy that did crimes in Texas has in fact been charged with several counts of sexual abuse right here in MISSISSIPPI....... And I could give a shit about politics! 11:43 your are first class!....
It is obvious that there are a lot of uninformed folks on this blog…. Get your shit together before you start talking crap when you don’t know the facts!……..
It is obvious that there are a lot of uninformed folks on this blog….
YAWN. ZZZZZZzzzzzzz.
So, facts apparently mean nothing to some of you people... "defending a man you believe in"..... give me a break, the scumbag admitted to sexual abuse from MH's pulpit! If it were your child being molested all hell would break loose... right? Get your head out of your butt!
"I think the guy that did crimes in Texas has in fact been charged with several counts of sexual abuse right here in MISSISSIPPI."
So I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem giving us a reference to a newspaper article documenting that, right? We're waiting.........
"the scumbag admitted to sexual abuse from MH's pulpit!"
So now he's having sex in the pulpit?
Reminds me of the woman who asked her priest "Father, is it a sin if my husband and I have sex before Mass on Sunday morning?"
He replied "Only if you block the aisle"
Get your head out of your butt!
Your (lack of) intelligence is on full display now.
here ya go 2:20
http://www.wapt.com/news/29107210/detail.html
Bill, I don't know Gunn or give a rat's behind about his party affliation. I will judge his performance as Speaker on his effectiveness on behalf of the people of MS.
ALL of the rationalizations you gave are likely the same ones the Catholic Church and Penn State hierarchy used.
THIS story is NOT about just Sandusky and Penn State but how yet again, institutions were more interested in self-preservation and their reputation or potential liability than in protecting children from a predator.
In the process, they increased their liability where IF they had immediately reacted, no further liability would have ensued.
That the abuse didn't take place ( that we know of) on church grounds is irrelevant and I think you know that. That a pedophile or suspected pedophile is free to continue to abuse children ANYWHERE and remains in a position to do just that is relevant. Those children abused away from the campus were just as victimized.
Nor is this about AN incident 20 years ago in Texas but about abuse occuring IN MISSISSPPI .
IF Gunn is an Elder, both he and his church need more objective representation and as a lawyer, he should know that.
I admire your loyalty as a friend, but perhaps, Gunn needs more objectiveness from his friends before he worsens turns willingness to forgive a man's past ( if he was part of that decision) into a cover-up and obstruction of justice ( legally OR morally).
I think some of you may have gotten the wrong idea about me. I holeheartedly agree that Morrison Heights should have immediately canned Langworthy and turned this over to the authorities, and if they had it to do over I bet that's just what they'd do. I wholeheartedly agree that Gunn was too close to the matter to represent them, and he probably should have resigned his position on the board of elders as soon as he was elected to the House. I am not in any way for covering up crimes like Langworthy admits to committing, and if he's guilty of what he's been charged with in Mississippi - even though the charges are from over 20 years ago - I hope he's punished to the full extent of the law.
My defense of Philip Gunn is simply because I believe he's being singled out due to his stature as a local Republican political leader. Let me put it another way - can anyone find any mention in the media or blogospshere of any other Morrison Heights elder? They were all involved in the decision to retain Langworthy, but Gunn is the one being held accountable. Not fair in any sense of the word, and I think the focus needs to be on the entire group, not just Philip Gunn. BB
I’m sorry Bill, your argument is not valid. There are many articles and blog discussions on the pastor of MH and others that had direct involvement in this matter. You are not informed. Mr. Gunn is a elder at MH and that is where he should have left it. He has called and e-mailed sexual abuse advocates in this matter that have direct information about Lansworhty and his criminal activity. Gunn called them in his capacity as an attorney. He made some bad mistakes in doing this that are going rise up and bite him right on his political ass. This are FACTS!…. Check it out. Now, Gunn is going to be the Speaker of the House here in Mississippi, they make laws that effect you me and others... If you have problems understanding that… I will repeat an earlier comment I made about you, ‘you might be wearing blinders’. I could give crap about politics when it comes to this matter.
Others have attacked me with name calling and made fun of my presentation of opinions here on JJ. That is fine! I do admit that I do not have the best education. There are reasons for this that are not totally my fault. I have been dragged down the road on this very subject (sexual abuse of children )with my whole life exposed. So a few ignorant assholes attacking me on this blog is not even a pimple on my ass. I am an advocate for children who have been sexually assaulted and damn proud of it! Politicians don’t mean shit to me if they are on the wrong side of this issue! You see, one of the children that I am fighting for was a twelve year altar boy sexually attacked by a priest 44 years ago…. I am and will continue to fight about these type things till the day I die. If that messes with your thoughts about someone you think highly of … SO BE IT. Another word of advise…. You describing people as a good Christian is a very slippery slope!
2:23.... I said he admitted his crimes FROM the pulpit... you freak!
12:40PM I repeat. You are an idiot.
ok mr.7:54...and other freaks... let's get off this blog and deal with this like men. I am going to give you and anybody else that makes lite of children being sexually abused a e-mail address to contact me on... It is real... so bring it on scumbags!

12:40 pm,some would think me overly educated . While you may lack formal education, you clearly have educated yourself quite well and write better than many PhDs.
There's a reason publishing houses have editors. Those who read a blog with a mind to edit are wound too tight. So, ignore them. Those who name call are immature and intellectually bereft and are not worthy of your consideration.
Your passion for this issue is appreciated and your points well taken by those who are informed about child abuse.
Bill , I appreciate your latest comments but am still at a loss to understand why you continue to assume, particularly on a conservative site in a conservative State that Republicans are " singled out".
Frankly, I was totally unaware of the church incident or even, I'm embarrassed to admit, who Phillip Gunn is or his position until 6:32 brought it up, yet you reacted to MY post. I have observed an " us/them" mentality in those involved in party politics but I think the proper attitude should be on the level of sports rivalry and not so personal.
Mississippi is not and is not likely in my lifetime to ever be a " liberal" state and the conflict between parties in this State , as far as I'm concerned , tends to be about power and control and personalities rather than real issue differences. So, I just don't care about anything other than ridding ourselves of those in both parties who are embarrassments to our State.
And, again, I appreciate your loyalty, but blind loyalty doesn't serve the GOP or your friend well . And, what I see is how cover ups always begin...disbelief,desire to protect friends and institutions, making rationalizations ...when what is needed is a dispassionate, objective approach to problem solving. Most of the time, " I'm sorry. I made a mistake or my trust was misplaced or I made a bad decision that I didn't recognize as such in the moment. Please accept my apology and what can I do to make amends" keeps things from getting out of control.
Good people make bad mistakes, Bill. The way I tell the difference is observing how the INDIVIDUAL deals with his or her mistakes and not the words but the actions taken. So far, your friend isn't handling this well IMHO.
Thanks Mr. 8:23 for your kind words..
I am going to tell all of you a story of a survivor like me who was speaking to his father about being abused by his little league coach...
After 40 years he says about his father and their discussion....After all these years my father displays the same callousness, making light of the emotional devastation suffered by me when I was his young son.
Finally he (the survivor) can be still no longer, and explodes with rage: ‘DO YOU HAVE ANY ****** IDEA WHAT HAPPENS TO A LITTLE BOY’S SOUL WHEN YOU SHOVE A **** UP HIS ***? DO YOU?’”
Righteous anger such as that expressed by survivors is often absent in sterile, academic debates about whether sexual abuse is harmful to children. ... IT NEEDS TO BE HEARD!
I'll use something I found in your BOOK CHRISTAINS....It is an echo in the warning of Jesus: (YO MAN, JC)! “But whosoever shall offend one of these little ones who believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6)
Now.... you assholes out there.... People like Langswothy are SERIAL SOUL killers! And people who protect him and believe his sick ass stories can use the same millstone after he (Langswothy) get done using it!
PLEASE WRITE ME!!!! You badly informed fucks….!!!!!
Mr. fish don’t take this comment off your blog……. it needs to be heard!
9:52pm victims of child abuse do need to be heard.
Please understand that denial is a very human reaction. Us humans don't want to believe that our judgement in another can be so flawed. That is terrifying as it makes us vulnerable. We want to believe all abusers ( and criminals in general) are recognizable so we can protect ourselves and our loved ones. We don't like to admit failure and feel helpless in the face of such a horror as child abuse.
And, pedophiles, in particular, work at seeming trustworthy and charming. They seldom look or sound strange. So THEY rather than the victim tend to get the benefit of the doubt.
But, you will not help enlighten by anger and putting people on the defensive, but by explaining to them what it means to be hurt. And, you almost succeed until you use profanity.
Bill, is not a bad man. He's a man who wants to believe that someone he trusted and supported and helped advance isn't so lacking in judgment and character, and wouldn't be so blind and naive as to allow someone with a history of child abuse be around children.
He knows, we all know that pedophiles don't change ...until we make the horrible discovery that someone who seems so nice is a pedophile. THEN we want, like the church people and the people at Penn State, to believe that the person we know is the exception and can change or was misunderstood. That there's any explanation other than that we have befriended a monster.
Until all the bloggers face that who have not, pedophiles will continue to succeed until they accumulate too many victims to be ignored...like Sandusky, like Langsworthy.
90% of all child molesters are either family members or trusted friends or authority figures. Only 10% are strangers. The 10% who are strangers tend to get the most publicity and they are the ones who have disturbed histories like animal abuse as children or strange psychological ideations.
Bill and Gunn need to step back from crisis management and think about the Langworthy situation from the victims point of view and not friendship, political impact, or financial liability but that stopping the pedophile is the first priority and changing the responses of institutions be it a church or university, is key to protecting children.
KF understands this too as he has championed protection of animals and abused women and understands that abusing a child is even worse.
This is an important discussion and needs to be that...a discussion and not an argument.
Some people need to calm down. Bill has not impugned anyone nor has he been engaging in "crisis management." Bill is an honorable and moral man and is asking some pertinent and relevant questions.
Comparing Gunn to Paterno is ridiculous. I didn't start reading about this stuff til this morning BUT from it seems to me nothing occurred at Morrison Heights. And IF that is the case, where is the church or Gunn's duty to report?
Now, they could have called Prestonwood but lets be real here. Prestonwood is the one that did not report it. So if Morrison had called the former employer and done an investigation, what do they find? Nothing. No police reports and an employer that probably follows standard practice and just says, yes he worked here from ____ to____ and made _____ per year. That is about the only information most employers will give in today's legal climate.
Now having said that, I just watched the WJTV story. Yeah, its troubling. Was he acting as an attorney for the church? Keep in mind, nothing happened at the church from what I have read so far. There is one thing I will say about this story from experience: Its Ross Adams. He is a very sloppy reporter, likes to sensationalize, and consistently gets facts wrong. Not trying to trash the reporter, we've just caught him doing this stuff on other stories on this website. I wouldn't be as suspicious if it was Meg Pace, Marsha Thompson, or Howard Ballou.
Any of the people quoted in the WJTV story are more than welcome to contact me and provide me with the same emails.
The conversation about this on this thread has been a good one and informative. I hope it stays that way as I am just now starting to read about it.
By the way, whatever happened to the Travelstead prosecution? Serious question as it just crossed my mind.
12:40 pm,some would think me overly educated .
But far more will not make the mistake.
Where we all these upstanding seekers of justice when AG Jim Hood let Robbie Bell walk?
Therapy is a solution to anger. And I will stand right beside bill any day; although he doesn't need the likes of me to vouch for his credentials. He has spoken with compassion and with conviction throughout this discussion. I've followed this story here and at other sources. On its face the issue of the priest is one that should be dealt with in the proper venue. The guilt by association and corresponding political spin is evident in this thread and especially in other venues.
KF, you are arguing that " nothing occurred on the premises" removes responsibility.
Where the abuse occurred and even evidence of abuse is irrelevant to reporting. One is to report SUSPECTED abuse. It's up to Children's Protective Services AND Law Enforcement to investigate. REPORTING can be done anonymously as well via Child Abuse Hotlines.
MS's child abuse mandatory reporting law is not nearly as week as Penn, and even in Penn, those in the administration to whom the abuse is alledged have legal responsibilities.
IF Paterno had been informed that the act witnessed had occurred at the camp instead of in the showers, he would still be duty bound to report it to his superiors as the perpetrator was an employee and that's true as well for a former employee with access to the premises.
You may as well argue that Penn State has no responsibility because none of THEIR students or faculty were molested.
It is KNOWLEDGE that molestation is alledged to have occurred that is the trigger for reporting, NOT who or where. And, that the alledged perp is or was an employee adds to the responsibility. For example, teachers have to report suspected child abuse that may be occurring in the child's home. Doctor's have to report suspicions of child abuse that didn't occur in their office or the hospital. Those who are part of the systems that care for and educate young people have a duty to report allegations of child abuse PERIOD
I , too, think Bill an honorable man ( and believe I've said or implied so in every post ), but ALL of you who are spinning this as a political attack are missing that when any church member or Elder became aware of the allegations, they had a DUTY to report it to Children's Protective Services and could easy do so through the hotline. AND, they could report anonymously.
The PRIORITY is to get the allegations investigated, not to cover political fanny or protect the church from liability, but to protect the CHILD.
Bill reacted as a supporter and friend and to my surprise, so are you, KF.
10:22 is right...it's like Robbie Bell and all the other situations where " friends" want to believe the best and mitigate the consequences for their friend.
And, 10:18am, I'm so glad as I don't wish to make others feel inadequate. I suspect you have problems with reading comprehension if you can't see I was trying to reassure 9:52 pm that he need not be concerned how those with more formal education felt about his posts.
I would urge everyone to read a post all the way through and to consider that sentences have contextual meaning.
Fish.... I'm surprised first of all that you just started reading about this story... Second, if you just started reading about this then how can you draw such a quick conclusion that Gunn being compared to Joe P. is ridiculous? That is a pretty fast draw..
I don't know Bill but I have tried, as he has, to be civil with my direct discussion with him. The anger that I have displayed is aimed at the bozo's that are nit-picking just to provoke me and others. This is a serious subject and one not to be toyed with... Go pick on someone talking sports or something of a lighter subject.
If you want to call me militant… I will gladly take that depiction. I will fight in court. I will fight in the street. I will fight anywhere necessary … when it comes to this subject. This is a cancer that affects more people than you can imagine. I have a right to be angry and don’t make any bones about it… If someone made fun of this to my face and didn’t stop quickly, I would try my best to whip their ass or have mine whipped! Some people only react to force as is so evident in the world today. I know victims that have taken their own lives over this!
Gunn, BB and anyone else listening should remember this one thought --- loyalty’s biggest enemy is deceit!
I hate to say this but…. I will guarantee you this.. there are CONTEMPORARY VICTIMS of this Langsworthy monster. You can take that to the bank…. Just hold on….
One other thing that I know for a fact: the leadership of MH have said that they were trying to save or had saved this Langsworthy fool! Saved… as in born again. When they did this… they were in fact willing to let children become collateral damage. That folks …. is pathetic! And they should suffer for these consequences…. Oh... as I said before... I don't give a shit about politics... Mr. 8:28 sorry for the profanity... but it is necessary for some of the jerks that are logged on here....
This is in a baptist publication....
http://www.abpnews.com/content/view/6972/53/
I’ll tell you what….. I will try and get a lady on here with us that knows first hand about Gunn, Langworthy and others. She is conservative, republican and a devout Baptist…. Isn’t that ironic?
Church leader questioned about handling of sexual abuse allegation
Philip Gunn worked on behalf of Langworthy to keep quiet those who knew of his confessed acts of child sexual abuse. He did this while at the same time acting as an elder of Morrison Heights conducting an internal investigation into the risks that Langworthy placed as a minister at the church surrounded with kids of all ages. This is the job of law enforcement. What Gunn and Morrison Heights leadership conducted was a cover up.
I refused to be quiet and kept working to expose Langworthy. As a result, these brave survivors came forward to the police. They are heroes.
Some of the young boys John preyed upon, as recently as the last few years in Clinton, he has taken on personal weekend trips out of town, to hotel rooms, not just on official school or church trips. This was reported to me by a concerned parent in Clinton. We are urging every person who saw, suspected or suffered child sex crimes by Langworthy to please call law enforcement immediately.
Philip Gunn, Greg Belser and the other 5 elders heard directly from past victims about what this monster did to them. And yet, Gunn, Belser and the elders were content to keep this information to themselves to keep Langworthy on staff, withholding the truth from their congregation about the man actively surrounding himself with kids at every turn...a facade of goodness...a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Penn State: A Christian Response
Thank you Amy Smith for providing the first real evidence as to why this is a current problem. If this new statement is true then I questions Gunn's judgement and fitness to be Speaker.
All right, I just zapped one comment because of language and didn't approve one for the same reason. One I didn't approve, most of it was all right so resubmit with some edits.
If Amy Smith posts those articles in a few more places she'll qualify as a bonafide spammer if she isn't one already.
You can read the timeline of events related to my efforts to warn Clinton public schools and Morrison Heights Baptist Church here.
John Langworthy confessed CRIMINAL behavior to the men at Morrison Heights Baptist as well as to Dr. Phil Burchfield of Clinton public schools. Past or present, it is simply unconscionable and frankly, dangerously naive, to take a confessed child molester's word for it that he simply just stopped committing child sex crimes. This is exactly what they did and let him continue on about his business, teaching kids at Clinton High School for the entire school year and working with kids of all ages at the church. In April, he was allowed to take the Arrows Singers to New Orleans for the weekend. Just to be safe they said that there were people supervising his actions. Why was that necessary if they did not consider him a risk to kids anymore? And if there was any risk at all, why take a chance?
If someone confessed that they had murdered someone 22 years ago, but assures you that his criminal behavior is all in the past. Would you report him to the police? If you have any ounce of morality you would. This situation is no different. They covered for and enabled a confessed criminal that had never been reported for his crimes. Abhorrent in every sense of the word.
Tyler Perry's Open Letter to Penn State 11-year-old
to 1:35- hardly even remotely honest but "Bonafide spammer" of truth. ok. I will wear that badge proudly to protect kids...whatever it takes to expose predators.
I've checked, she's spamming comments across the internet trying to get this story at the top to trend with the Penn State situation.
where?
Try Google. It works.
search: amy smith clergy abuse, note posts in last 5 days, she already has 4 links on this page and a link to the Penn State story
It is called backlinking; KF has clout and she is leveraging this.
Kangaroo, Amy never heard of this blog until she was asked to comment! So what's this about spamming? She worked on this for a year or more, trying to get these people including Gunn to do the right thing. And I might add way- way under the radar screen out of site. She did this for the protection of children. That is her only agenda here! All Gunn had to do was listen and err on the side of protecting children! He chose to protect Langworthy and MH.
Mr. Gunn has made a big mistake by going in the direction that he did! I don't want anybody that would do this leading the House here in Mississippi! Is that so hard to see or is party politics more important? Gunn being a republican has nothing to do with Amy and her tireless efforts to protect children... Gunn's loyalty to Langworthy and MH was JUST WRONG.. If others are using this to get Gunn out as speaker… you need to question him… He opened this can of worms!
Yadda yadda yadda.
2:39's Yadda yadda yadda comment is an insult.... Mr. fish this is what needs to be zapped right off here!
Zzzzzzzzzzz
Smith is mooching off JJ with spam not unlike Y'allPolitics mooches and/or the Magnolia Report has sham blogs set up to backlink to the primary property.
As for Kingfish? He wins the day with good ol' content. Smith goes where there is an actual audience to abuse.
Amy Smith - here's a news flash: there is no statute of limitations on murder.
Well..... see you pieces of $&*+ in hell! I'm out of here.... You and your cronies have showed your true colors... If you are supporting this Gunn fella then I for damn sure will do everything possible to expose him......... Fish, I thought you could handle the truth, you and Kangaroo can go straight to HELL!... take your shit blog with you....blocking me is not necessary..........
Don't let the door hit ya on the way out. I didn't approve your comment because you were issuing physical threats and challenges to other commentors.
What he said.
There now no statutes of limitations on child sexual abuse of this nature in MS and many other states. And on these crimes that these men at Morrison Heights heard about from victims and Langworthy, criminal charges were still allowed under the law. Newsflash: he was indicted on 8 counts of child sexual abuse for 5 victims...some of which these men heard directly about.
I thought you were leaving.
Different anonymous.
Well..... see you pieces of $&*+ in hell! I'm out of here....
