Looking forward to taking my tax dollars to Rankin or Madison County. Y'all can have the idiot Chokme put in with racial campaigning. Wonder what these idiots will do when the rest of the tax base moves away? Black sheriff is fine - but low bred perjurer/thief is not. Good luck suckers!

Very unfortunate. I don't blame Mac. He gave us his best and was by far the best option. Unfortunately, people vote based solely on race and not qualifications. The liberals in Hinds County, now have what they have wanted for so long.

WRITE IN MALCOLM MCMILLIN in General election and spell his name correctly or it wont count!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

A write-in candidate is a candidate in an election whose name does not appear on the ballot, but for whom voters may vote nonetheless by writing in the person's name. Some states and local jurisdictions allow a voter to affix a sticker with a write-in candidate's name on it to the ballot in lieu of actually writing in the candidate's name. Write-in candidacies are sometimes a result of a candidate being legally or procedurally ineligible to run under his or her own name or party. In some cases, write-in campaigns have been organized to support a candidate who is not personally involved in running; this may be a form of draft campaign.

Write-in candidates rarely win, and votes are often cast for ineligible people or fictional characters. Some jurisdictions require write-in candidates be registered as official candidates before the election.[1] This is standard in elections with a large pool of potential candidates, as there may be multiple candidates with the same name that could be written in.

Many states and municipalities allow for write-in votes in a partisan primary where no candidate is listed on the ballot to have the same functional effect as nominating petitions: for example, if there are no Reform Party members on the ballot for state general assembly and a candidate receives more than 200 write-in votes when the primary election is held (or the other number of signatures that were required for ballot access), the candidate will be placed on the ballot on that ballot line for the general election. In most places, this provision is in place for non-partisan elections as well.

Anonymous said...

Don't think we can write him in but I might be mistaken.

Anonymous said...

The machine allows for a write-in and that is exactly what I will do. I refuse to vote for a lying low-life SOB. I will write in McMillin. They might not count it - but who cares at this point? I will NOT cast my vote for a perjurer/thief. Period.

TL;DR

KaptKangaroo said...

I took Mac's "shinin'" (according to the folks who blew through here for a while) and his eventual decision to concede as a respectful "stand down".

Would love to see a great race as an Independent, not sure if it is possible with write in, but believe the facts of leadership would emerge under this scenario.

I imagine, a lot more would vote, and given it is under the watchful eyes of the election commission, hanky-panky is NOT an option.

Would be funny to see the party happenin' now is but a figment. Kinda' like an imaginary horse from Hobbit land, replete with el"V"es; Not el"F"s.

someone should contact McMillin on facebook and tell him he is going to be a write in candidate. I will not vote for TLewis under any circumstances. Hopefully Jim Hood will grow a pair and press charges on Lewis for perjury ... or maybe Smith will grow some. Probably too late for both of them or it would have already been done. I can not believe they stand back and watched this happen knowing this election was full of fraud. What a couple of dirtbags.

Never trust anyone if you wish to run for a political office. The chances get higher with each re election that
those that you least suspect will hurt you the most.

7:29, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

Anonymous said...

Crowley,

You are a piece of work. Think you'll get pimped out under the new regime? You are pathetic.

Anonymous said...

This illustrates precisely why elections for Sheriff should be non-partisan just like judicial races. For that matter, the elections for DA, County Attorney, Justice Court and Constable should also be non-partisan.

Anonymous said...

Dear Sheriff, We are sorry. Thank you for all you have done.

PetePerry said...

I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it - and the MS Code will back me up.

Anyone thinking you can have a write-in campaign is barking up a tree with no squirrels atop.

Write-in votes are not counted in MS unless the name on the ballot has died or is otherwise unable to continue as a candidate.

It does not matter if you spell the name correctly or not.

They will not be counted - they will be treated as undervotes.

For those that wish to not vote for Lewis, you can accomplish the same result by just skipping the race. Either way, your vote will be considered as an undervote.

MS law prevails here - don't worry about what you may think can happen because of other states. In MS, a write-in vote is not counted.

And it is too late to run as an Independent. The qualifying deadline for that was the same as for party nominees.

Anyone who wants to bet differently on either a write-in vote or an Independent campaign, contact me. I'll take the bet and you can name the wager.

Pete Perry

Anonymous said...

I do wonder why Pete Perry is wasting his time telling us about write-in votes? I would certainly rather write in McMillin than vote for a perjurer.

Anonymous said...

Pete - do you have the MS code number so we can look it up? Thx.

Curt Crowley said...

"Think you'll get pimped out under the new regime?"

What does this mean? I don't speak white-guy-trying-to-talk-like-he-thinks-black-people-talk. Can you put it in plain English?

Sad day, indeed. Thank you Sheriff for the integrity you brought to this office for so many years.

20 years of rising crime, barely an effort of a campaign this year, and now bows out of this before a punch could be thrown. Thank you for your service, Malcolm. Now go home.

Avery Wiseman said...

§ 23-15-365. Write-in candidates

"There shall be left on each ballot one (1) blank space under the title of each office to be voted for, and in the event of the death, resignation, withdrawal or removal of any candidate whose name shall have been printed on the official ballot, the name of the candidate duly substituted in the place of such candidate may be written in such blank space by the voter."

Pretty clear language there. But maybe there's a chance, depending on who has qualified to run in the general election. If one of the area's perennial candidates has qualified for November and can be convinced to withdraw after the official ballots are printed, that would be a triggering event for a write-in campaign.

So, are there any third-party candidates running for sheriff? I'd love to stick around and finish this solution for y'all but you will have to figure that one out on your own -- me and my Rankin County neighbors are heading to a meeting with Dick Hall to see about installing drawbridges on Highways 80 and 25 at the Pearl River.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous @ 7:09 a.m.: You are absolutely right. Sheriff McMillin goes home to Clinton. From the way he acted throughout this election it was almost like his ego got the better of him. I saw one of his television interviews with a young reporter and he was rude when there was no need. Elective office is WON not just freely given, no matter what your record is. Maybe he really was ready to quit and just didn't know how.

One thing I have found interesting and I wonder if anyone else has noticed, our Hinds County Circuit Clerk has said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. In that regard, it is now quite clear that this is her last four-year term.

Curt Crowley said...

8:22: "me and my Rankin County neighbors are heading to a meeting with Dick Hall to see about installing drawbridges on Highways 80 and 25 at the Pearl River."

Sounds like a great idea to keep the meth out of Hinds County.

Anonymous said...

Mac had 20 years to groom a decent black successor then hand the reins off. He failed / refused to do that and now Chokwe has chosen his successor. Ultimately Mac put his own ego ahead of the good of the county, and now we're all going to pay the price. When Mac was first elected he was the liberal Belhaven dreamboat -- pretty much the only Democrat in office who didn't look like a sissy. Mac screwed us big time.

Anonymous said...

9:01: What would you have Ms. Dunn to say? That made absolutely no sense. I am sure she and Mac have spoken, but to make a public statement? Why? And from all this you have deduced that she will not run again? How did you come up with that?

Anonymous said...

Mac was elected to groom a decent black successor?

Don't think so.

Anonymous said...

11:44: Ms. Dunn might have said "Thank You" for getting re-elected. As for running again, she's 74. As with a lot of politicians who end up making a "home" in a particular public office, at a point it's time to move on. If they won't, then the electorate will do it for them.

Hinds County is going to be fine despite the racist comments and those cheering for its fall. Make sure not to cross the draw bridge if you need emergency trauma care. I am sure you can find in Rankin County.

Avery Wiseman said...

@6:04, if we stay out of Hinds County then we won't need emergency trauma care, will we?

Anonymous said...

Let's look at facts Avery. Downtown Jackson has one of the lowest crime rates in all of metro. Stay in Rankin County and enjoy it's fine restaurants and cultural amenities. The Heart of Pearl museum of art is award winning.

Curt Crowley said...

326: "We can pool all of our money together and put up a concrete wall around hinds county!"

Helluva idea. A concrete wall would ensure that the next little Dedmon can kill somebody in his own neighborhood instead of ours.

Ok, ok...bottom line is this. The City of Jackson and Hinds County are run by a pathetic bunch of idiots, 90% of which are blatant racists themselves! The City Council is a freakin' joke, mostly because of the illiterate, yet irreplaceable, Kenneth Stokes. Now there is your real piece of work. Jackson will continue to lose its citizens and tax revenue...it's unstoppable at this point. Learn to live with it, because it is simply inevitable.

My personal opinion of Malcolm...he has done what one man can do, given the resources he had available to him. Tyrone Lewis? Just another freakin' joke! A racist joke at that...

Jackson doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of any type of recovery...it is what it is folks.

Curt Crowley said...

"How many murders has Jackson had just in the year 2011 Crowley? How many has rankin and Madison had??"

You mean murders that weren't committed by little monsters from Rankin County? And how do I count that anyway? When a thug from Trucknuts County comes over here and murders someone for shits and giggles, do I count that as a Jackson murder, or a Rankin murder?

Why is it that you rednecks can't sit your asses over there and be content with where you live? Why is it necessary for you to continually bash Jackson?

Hey, we get it. You don't want to live here. Thanks for sharing, but we really don't give a fuck. If you don't like it over here, then stay the fuck out. Simple.

Avery Wiseman said...

Yes, Curt, the number of "murders that weren't committed by little monsters from Rankin County" will be fine. Subtract an entire 1 from your total if that makes you feel better. Now, what's that number, learned counsellor? (And please don't forget to say "fuck" a lot in your reply -- profanity often proves convincing when facts fail you.)

You're probably from Rankin County, so you have a poor grasp of the limits of government power under the Constitution of the United States (ya'll still debating prohibition over there?).

The man has the right to use the words he used. Have you thought about what will happen if you really did fax and email that trying to get this man in trouble? It will not be very hard to figure out who you are. You will be bankrupt by the time Crowley finishes suing you. Stepping all over other people's rights has consequences. @6:16, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Anonymous said...

NIKNAR??? Now which cheerleader of all and only things downtown Jackson has worn that phrase out even to his family and friends??? NIKNAR?? Hmmmmmmmm.

Anonymous said...

@6:16, I suppose that things have come full circle. When I was a youngster living in Rankin County people from Jackson looked down their noses and were critical of Rankin County because that was where the illegal (at that time even for those in Hinds County) liquor was sold. When I would, as an impetuous youngster, point out that Big Red Hydrick would go out of business if not for the trade he got from Jackson I got no rational response. Now those who judge themselves to be morally superior criticize Rankin County because they don't sell liquor there. Which was is it?

I have lived in Rankin, Madison, and Hinds County. None are perfect. I chose not to live in Hinds for a number of reasons which are personal to me. And I do not criticize any one for where they choose to live. With that said, there are some very obvious problems in Hinds County. Somehow I don't think that Crowley throwing stones or legalizing liquor in Rankin County will do anything to solve them.

Anonymous said...

6:16..Since your are so culturally, morally and intellectually superior to those of us that choose to reside on the northshore of the resevoir(a place I happen to think is a great place to rear my three children), why don't you cite your educational(or any other kind, if you have them) credentials. There are rednecks in every county. Hinds is certainly no exception. Meth labs proliferate there as well. Crack houses, anyone? I am a former drug prosecutor and believe me, more happens in your Nirvana of Jackson than in the outlying areas.

Just want to shed light on the numbers that are being compared here. Please keep in mind Jackson carries about four times the population of either Madison or Rankin. So comparing crime rates is not apples to apples. There should only be a fourth of the crime, but then you throw in the demographics and Jackson is screwed. And yes considering the demographics of our jail population blacks commit majority of crimes.

Does anyone know where I can find crime stats for Pearl? I would like to see the numbers and compare them to Jackson.

Pearl is not listed in the fbi Uniform Crime Reports like Jackson is. The fbi does not include little towns like Pearl in its reports. It looks like the town of pearl does not publish its crime reports either.

It would be nice to be able to compare Pearl and the other bedroom communities' crime numbers with Jackson.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
