Hmmmmmmm........

What was Harvey up to in this letter?

Incidentally, Downtown Jackson Partners was reauthorized by the property owners downtown this week. Lacey McLaughlin penned a nice, in-depth story about DJP in the Jackson Free Press. Yeah, I know. Long story but has some good information. The letter was obtained through a public records request.

It is fairly obvious. He doesn't appreciate the attempts by the tail to wag the dog.

I don't see this as anything other than an attempt to make the document more accurate. It is pretty common practice to submit such a document for editorial comments and frankly, I think any mayor would be remiss not to comment if he thought more specificity was needed.

I'm at a loss to understand why this is posted unless it's to agree with Harvey on the oversights of detail...all of which are reasonable and legitimate on the face.

Some criticisms are simply constructive.

Pieter, when writing the letter for Harv, violated pecking order protocol and chain of command rules when he placed his own name first on distribution.

I wonder how much more could be accomplished if the Great Deliberator would actually focus on solving problems, instead of bullshit like this.

It looks like King Harvey got his massive ego bruised because someone didn't kiss his ass hard enough. He gives himself away when he says the supplemental programs should be "coordinated with the City of Jackson."

In other words, King Harvey wants to be in control of the District's activities. If not outright control, he wants corporate lips to be chapped on his haughty ass before the District does anything.

I wonder if it's ever dawned on King Harvey that maybe there's a reason they don't want him involved in the District's activities. Said reason being that they don't want it fucked up.

King Harvey is a career government worker (when he wasn't employed by grant-funded non-profits that he founded). His endless deliberation, constant urban-planning-theory-tweaking and bureaucratic inertia can only interfere with the District's goals. Couple that with his insufferable arrogance, and it's no wonder the District doesn't bother to consult with His Majesty in coordinating activities.

Only a fool would let King Harvey Johnson have ANY amount of control or input.

I would agree with that. It seems though that King Harvey is confused about who is the tail and who is the dog.

Right or wrong, Harvey is the Mayor.

"Additionally, a statement of measurable objectives would aid in the value of the effectiveness of the district".

How about the same for your inept administration, Mr. Mayor.

Kingfish said...

Why does Harvey need to know their expenses? Who gets paid what? Since when is THAT any of his business? Especially when he can pull it off their 990? I understand coordinating with law enforcement but what I took this to be was Harvey the control freak trying to stick his nose into the one thing downtown that works.

If I am reading the DJP blog correctly, DJP received over 88% approval, and 1%"no" votes. Am I missing something?

Is that "measurable"?

Anonymous said...

Harvey doesn't like the fact that it's a bunch of white boys over there at DJP. Now, if he could just get some of his homeys over there, we wouldn't here any questions about what's going on.

Am I missing something?

Yes you are. Riverwalk and the Arena are light years away from being teed up and ready to go.

8:06 don't expect Woody Simmons to do any real reporting. He's little more than an unpaid adjunct to the DJP public relations effort.

9:51=8:06. Yawn.

I understand that many of you do not like the current mayor.

Would you find this letter objectionable if the mayor was someone you liked? Would you then think that co-ordinating and keeping the mayor " in the loop" on projects in his city was important? Would you think a mayor you liked was reminding everyone that full disclosure on how money is spent for downtown projects can increase public confidence in a city where criticism and diviseness is constant?
It expect it's that some of you do not think city government and developers should work together. I , on the other hand, observe that a coordinated effort is more productive for both.
I expect our Mayor is not flawless. But, I also see how busy downtown is again on Friday night. I see lines at The Parlor Market, Mayflower and King Edward . I see young people going out to their haunts as my dinner companions and I are leaving our restaurant of choice. I see construction workers on evening shift and buildings renovated and lights in the living spaces downtown. Something good is happening. And, I also suspect getting to this point didn't happen overnight and without attention to detail. I remember people saying that what I am seeing was " impossible".
I don't have memory loss either about how downtown Jackson was declining long before Harvey. I remember why some areas flooded that shouldn't have in '79. I seem to remember shootings and violence that made national news even longer ago which didn't suggest " good government" to anyone.
In the South where there was effective government leadership in , violence was avoided.

Jackson doesn't have a Mayor. It has a pompous, arrogant, self annointed, divisive King.

And you know what King Harvey had to do with all that? Not a damn thing. These things are happening *despite* King Harvey's leadership, not because of it. Harvey's too busy trying to get his "respect" and make sure people acknowledge his authoritah to get any real work done.

The credit for those positive things should be given to the men who made them happen (and the taxpayers for financing some of them).

Please do not come on here and imply that the things you see happening downtown are because of King Harvey. If I wanted to hear about King Harvey taking credit for other people's work, I'd hop on the Pride Ride any given Saturday and get it straight from his majesty.

Just read the Ledger article on Bluntson asking for public records regarding salaries to city staff and HJ getting all haughty and refusing to give them.

Then I read his letter to DJP above, asking for DJP's records on salaries, which other than 990's are not generally public.

WTF?

Kingfish said...

Well, here is what is going on there. Bluntson has a relative working in the clerk's office and has been trying to get her promoted to the head job and Harvey won't play ball on it.

Don't believe that KF. Sorry. What I think is Harvey is being his typical A/H pompous ass self.

Period.

Why WON'T he release PUBLIC records?

Could it be that he has grown to 18the number of staff people on his dole, in his office?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
