The people who perform FGMs are usually old women from villages who have seen the procedure done before, not doctors, and it's never conducted under what we would call sanitary conditions, which increases the danger of the procedure.

This is not a Muslim practice, BTW, it's a third world practice. Look at Uganda, which is 86% Christian, where FGM is widely administered (they just officially banned it two weeks ago).

Although I will acknowledge there is a debate on the practice within the Muslim world and that a conference in Egypt deplored FGM.

However, I consider these people in England that do this animals. We aren't talking about someone living in a third world poverty stricken African village who is ignorant and illiterate.

Yeah, you should also probably acknowledge that Egypt has banned FGM, thanks largely to the efforts of Muslim women's heath advocates in that country. I guess the ones you don't write off as feminists you can write off as Muslims, and vice versa, but at least they're actually doing something about the problem.

There are and frankly, I was pretty mad when I wrote that last sentence and shot off at the mouth. I get angry every time I read that story. There have been feminists groups that have pushed for a stop to this barbaric practice but lets just say it hasn't gotten the favor of the left like the fight against apartheid did.

So what, exactly, are you doing about it?

I understand why one would get angry. I've been angry about it ever since I heard about the practice decades ago, when I was one of those useless young bitchy feminists. Most women in any rights movement know about this and hate, hate, hate it and do so loudly. So don't lay this one the girls, please. It doesn't even make sense why you would string it together like that.
