Justice was served upon the owner of infamous Grand Chateau Apartments on West Capitol Street in Jackson. Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeffrey Reynolds wasn't playing around as he sentenced owner Ramesh Ramchandran to 630 days in jail if he does not demolish or rehabilitate the apartments within 120 days.

Ramesh Ramchandran purchase Grand Chateau Apartments through his Atlanta company, Kayram Atlanta, LLC in 2021 for reasons only known to him. The complex fell into an extreme state of disrepair. Jackson Code Enforcement officers cited Grand Chateau no less than seven times in February 2024, May 2026, April 2026, and August 2026 for unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
The owner claimed he evicted the tenants before June 2025. However, media reported this summer that residents were cooking over open flames and bootlegging electricity from Entergy. The pictures posted below show the poor condition of the property.
Code Enforcement Officer Robert Brunson testified at the defendant's September 10 trial the property is across the street from an elementary school. Residents complained the ownership did not perform basic maintenance. The opinion states:
Broken windows and locks remained broken. Wild animals roamed with no animal control. No trash service was provided. Water had been cut off from the building. Officer Brunson also testified that Entergy reported tampering with the electrical lines. The record includes photographs of a downed utility pole and disconnected electrical service equipment on the Property, consistent with this testimony.
Code Enforcement recommended demolishing the apartments in the August 2026 citation. The May 2026 citation directed the owner clean up the property and remove all trash and debris. Ramchandran ignored the order.
Ramchandran claimed the building went "unmanaged due to gun violence." The defendant alleged he evicted all tenants by June 2025 but did not renovate the property as planned because of "gun violence." In an indirect admission he did not supervise the property, Ramchandran said he was "shocked" to learn squatters were living in the apartments a year later.
The defendant argued he needed help from the city in making the apartments habitable so he could rent them to Jackson State University students. Ramchandran said he hired a security company but did not hire a replacement when the security company "did not work out."
Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeff Reynolds said the property "is a dangerous menace" and noted the defendant took no action to fix any of the problems cited by Code Enforcement.
Judge Reynolds found Ramchandran guilty of all seven citations. Each citation carried a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail. The Court sentenced the defendant to serve the maximum 90 days in jail for each citation consecutively (for a grand total of 630 days). The judge also fined Ramchandran $250 for each citation.
The Court offered some possible relief to the defendant. The sentence will be suspended if Ramchandran applies for a permit to renovate or demolish the property within 30 days and brings the apartments up to code within 120 days if no demolition occurs.
If the defendant gets any ideas about appealing his sentence, Judge Reynolds set his cost bond at $2,500 and appearance bond at $1.25 million.

Just playing devil's advocate here; How is the owner supposed to remove the squatters without law enforcement assistance? Is the court really suggesting property owners handle these things on their own? Will the court assume liability in the inevitable lawsuit?

Do these landlords get cash, for allowing trafficking of humans and drugs?

A cartel, for Kingfish's education, is a group of people who conspire to set prices, establish monopolies and otherwise corner the market(s) on certain goods and services. The goods and services in our present reality equals: Lodging, Convenience Stores, Gasoline and Diesel sales, small eating establishments such as Subway and the dumps that exist when these businesses fail.
It's a no-win situation. The owner is in the wrong. He must maintain his property. He needs to renovate these apartments and maintain them properly. The issue is that his tenants will tear stuff up quicker than he can fix it. They will not take care of their units. So I have no idea why anyone would want to own this property.

It's strange how rural Mississippi stores, run, for generations, by old-stock Mississippians, are being mysteriously reported for all sorts of minute infractions. Then, they shut down. One assumes the regulators are in somebody's pocket.
If you're driving from Greenville to Jackson, via Vicksburg, you'd better gas-up in Greenville, because I recently learned (the hard way) that all those little places where you used-to-could buy gas, are GONE - mysteriously closed. And that's a LONG drive.
One single wretched station remained, before you ascend the hill, on the stupid highway skirting Vicksburg (which saves zero time, now that it's been cluttered-up by endless redlights: adding one more reason to get to Jackson, via Greenwood)- staffed by a surly foreigner. He was scary-enough. But surrounding him, were walls of ugly poisons to be chewed or smoked.
Used to be, that little area had a gas station where they cooked Mamaw Food ( too "Southern" for us, but still...), and next-door, there was a man who crafted solid-cypress porch swings and chairs. Those, we DID buy, for buildings we were gentrifying. Subsequent owners and their tenants, still cherish them. How did all that quaint-&-wholesome get replaced by the tobacco/kratom/jumbo butane lighter/lottery ticket MINI-HELL?

12:05 PM a former Jackson landlord said she got out because she would evict tenants only to have them move right back in as soon as the Hinds County Constable left, AND, the Jackson Police Department IS NOT coming to help you with the now squatters.

There's about 1.5 acres available, just truck all the crap at his slumlord special straight to his yard!
Also noted Georgoia Secratary of state shows about 17 LLCs at that address, what are the chances that the Grand Chateau Apartments are his only shit show?
