President Trump has instigated any number of audacious and “threatening” moves to make America great again. His latest is acquiring Greenland as one of his properties and renaming it “the land of many greens,” on which he has already planned 52 golf courses.
Please! THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!
Nevertheless, I bet the first paragraph goes viral among woke folks who have welcomed fellow socialists and communists to participate in the mid-term elections. They are so naïve.s
Like any good conspiracy theory, the Greenland spoof is based on some truth. You may have missed the New York Times report, “U.S. and Denmark Reach Security Deal on Greenland, Trump Says.”
During his first week in office this time around President Trump mentioned the strategic position of Greenland a number of times drawing the ire and ridicule of the wholesale left in America and the world who literally feared he might actually buy the island and name it for himself. Actually, in 1951 Denmark and the U.S. signed the Greenland defense agreement, and America built Thule Air Base to monitor airspace between the U.S. and Russia for intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
The 1951 agreement was woefully inadequate for 2026 as a long-term agreement to protect us from Russian and Chinese attacks. Thus, Trump announced a deal he had reached with Denmark and Greenland that gives the United States “permanent control over security, and all other needs” in Greenland.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a comment on social media saying, “this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer.”
Rubio continued, “Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area. This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland.”
Of course, the NYT declared, “the agreement fell well short of Mr. Trump’s longstanding demand of total control over Greenland.” Critical readers of news marveled the Times even bothered to cover the event. In truth the deal stands even if Greenland ever becomes independent, and the U.S. has veto power over Russian or China involvement in Greenland.
As a bonus, the new agreement supersedes the old 1951 agreement which was a NATO-era agreement between Denmark and the U.S. That was a barrier to the U.S. ever leaving NATO. So, why would we want to leave NATO? Maybe because NATO nations refused to allow American planes to use their air bases during the war with Iran. We have protected NATO nations for all these years, and now they won’t let us land on their bases?
Secretary Rubio raised this very issue on Sean Hannity’s show last March saying, “If now we’ve reached a point where the NATO alliance means that we can’t use those bases, that in fact, that we can no longer use those bases to defend America’s interests, then NATO is a one-way street.
This isn’t saying the U.S. is on the verge of leaving NATO at all. We are still very much members held in high esteem. NATO nations on the other hand appear to be playing fast and loose with traditional expectations of cooperation among member states. President Trump made a deal with Greenland and consolidated much stronger relations with NATO nations. Now we know.

None of this will help him Donald . The investigations of Trump and his ever shrinking administration are about to begin. Those socialist farmers and ranchers are all voting for change and accountability in November .
Trump has directly threatened to abandon NATO. This "new" agreement is Truman 1951 redux, except this one prevents the US from leaving NATO.
D.L., Exact a fact! Add all the deals of all sorts in just 20 months, and America has been blessed for electing the Trumpster.
Daniel always conveniently overlooks the gigantic disconnect between the lies and garbage that come out of Trump's mouth and what Trump actually accomplishes.
At the summit Trump learned that Xi was an expert on. “ marble” white marble is his favorite! By gosh who would have guessed ?
Is there a limit on same person posts all in a row?
The TDS types are easily triggered by anything. If they did even the slightest research they would know we purchased lands before and even from Denmark.(Epstein Island was part of it). But in a world of sensationalist media one cannot expect people to know whats going on.
DL: We must protect ourselves from Russia and China.
Also DL: We must not aid Ukraine and where is my red carpet...Xi is here this weekend visiting.
I'll smoke whatever he's having.
1:23pm, 2:34pm Troglodyte cousin of Al Greene (the perpetual, literal cane raiser who tirelessly demands impeachment of Trump) could join Al to go Sasquatching in Greenland.
Yet another vapordeal that Trump and his acolytes claim is a HUGE WIN! Basically, it's the same ol' 1951 deal with a couple of alterations reflecting 2026 realities. The major thing it does is help the Greenlanders who want to stay tied to Denmark and continue riding that gravy train of capital influx. But the "independent Greenland" bunch aren't much of a force anyway. The "threat" of Greenland declaring independence, tossing out the old agreements along with the US and Denmark and the money influx, and allowing the Russians and Chinese to come in and take over in the next 20-30 years was essentially non-existent, and for the near-term under 10 years, actually non-existent. It is at least arguable if an agreement signed today would truly bind a future independent Greenland, along with Russia or China, and that's assuming that all would respect international law and rulings on the subject.
The actual document, which is titled on its face as being to "amend" and supplement," is readily available for anyone to read and it is only 10 pages. Several (non AI) summaries and rundowns - it's a bit early for full papers - have been put out by various generally-politically-neutral think tanks and the few I've seen agree that it is no major practical change from the US or Danish perspectives, with a few crumbs tossed in to feed Trump's ego.
