This has been a thing for about a decade now. All of your aftermarket classic car parts have been made in China for decades. You can buy complete kits from China to build anything from a Toyota AE86 to a first generation Ford Thunderbird. Of course, it’s all chinkshit and the quality shows.
"Why can't we innovate like this over here?" Government regulation.
Nothing stopping GM from making an EV 58 vette convertible.
I think there is a market for retro-futuristic style vehicles. Also, for all the issues we have with China over IP theft, these vehicles have long passed the patent expiration for visual and ornamental design. I would think they couldn't put a Ford Mustang emblem or name on it but in every other way could look the same.
Patents, personal injury laws, wealth management infrastructure, and DEI/ESG control of businesses and the academy. IOW, Wall Street and Capitol Hill. China supports its native doers and engineers. America’s Rich and their spawn sit in their assets.
Check out revology. It's a bit pricey and not much demand would be my guess.
@KF
GM would have to buy the technology back from CHINA because they SOLD it back in the 1990’s! Just research Magnequench
They’re called Restomods here. You can also buy all new metal classics from Dynacorn.
They're building original WWII Jeeps in the Phillippines today.
A lot of WW2 era stuff is still made in the Philippines. Armscor/Rock Island Armory still makes GI model 1911 semi autos and .38 special M&P Revolvers.
Philippines is the only country in Asia where a diesel Ford Everest and a diesel Chevrolet Trailblazer (still made there out of the Isuzu D-Max) are top status symbols.
Sorry KF....we sold out or regulated everything to China 50 years ago, and there may be no coming back. We are an army of consumers in America....and produce very little except Hollyweird crap.
Because we gave them our jobs, money, and intellectual property; no surprise we are trending downward in comparison.
Whatever you do, don't buy a retro car from The Vault.
Our carefully maintained old vehicles are looking and running great: 1999 Toyota Tacoma, 2002 Toyota 4-Runner, and a 2011 Mercedes S500. Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot the 1950s era Massey Ferguson tractor fondly called the 'MF tractor' here on the farm.
China is the world's only remaining superpower. America went MAGA and will continue to deteriorate much like Russia is.
China =theft of intellectual property. No novel ideas since the dynasties. A genius crook is still a crook. .
Yeah, well, they are kicking our ass on smartphones. Making phones superior to Samsung, Apple, and Google.
Philippines is the native land of the Kingfisher bird
Wow.. so cool.. Maybe J D Pass could sell these at The Vault !
I agree 3:41. Things are much easier to "create" when you steal everything needed to produce it
