Rankin-Madison District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney John K. “Bubba” Bramlett announced that Mark Duett was sentenced following his March conviction on three counts of Sexual Battery and two counts of Gratification of Lust involving a child in Rankin County Circuit Court in Brandon, Mississippi. The Court sentenced Duett to life imprisonment on each of the three Sexual Battery counts, with those sentences to run concurrently. The Court also sentenced Duett to fifteen (15) years on each of the two Gratification of Lust counts, with those sentences to run concurrently to each other and consecutively to the life sentences. On March 14, 2025, Brandon Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting abuse of a young child. Officers conducted multiple interviews. Through the course of the investigation, the child was taken to the Children’s Advocacy Center, where the child disclosed that the abuse occurred over a three-month period. The child reported multiple incidents of sexual contact that took place when the defendant was alone with the child.A search warrant was obtained by the Brandon Police Department and subsequently executed at the defendant’s residence. While searching the defendant’s residence, law enforcement collected electronic devices and other items containing evidence related to the case that helped prove Duett’s guilt. The Defendant was indicted by the Rankin County Grand Jury on September 3, 2025. The trial commenced on March 23, 2026. At trial, the State presented testimony from law enforcement officers, an investigator, a sexual assault nurse, and other witnesses, as well as evidence obtained during the course of the investigation. The jury received the case on March 25, 2026, and found the defendant guilty on all counts of the indictment. District Attorney John K. Bramlett stated, “You cannot put into words the damage done to a child in a case like this, but today’s sentence makes one thing clear: if you hurt a child in Rankin County, you can expect to spend the rest of your life paying for it.” The District Attorney’s Office thanks the Brandon Police Department, the Children’s Advocacy Center, and the Center for Violence Prevention for their commitment to protecting children and pursuing justice in this case. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kathryn Newman and Amanda Fritz.
