Former Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba asked U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan, III to dismiss his indictment in a motion filed under seal in U.S. District Court February 27.
The docket states:

A federal grand jury indicted Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, Mayor Lumumba, and City Councilman Aaron Banks on public corruption charges in 2024. Former Councilwoman Angelique Lee and insurance mogul Marve Smith pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit bribery in 2024 as well.
Lumumba stands accused of bribery, wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.
Owens filed a motion to dismiss with a supporting memorandum and 47 exhibits January 26 in U.S. District Court. The Justice Department almost immediately asked Judge Jordan, to seal the filing the same day, claiming it violated a protective order.
The Court granted the request and sealed the filings the next day but not before most of the local media downloaded the motion and the supporting exhibits.

They are living off their palm grease and other grifting income.

No. Falling victim to a sting operation that targets you isn’t entrapment. There was more entrapment than this in the judicial bribery scandal 20 years ago and none of them even seriously argued it.

Wonder has anyone informed Harvard that their John F Kennedy New Frontier award recipient's derriere is going to be experiencing a new frontier in the not-too-distant future.
I cannot imagine him getting off, but with his peers you never can tell. With the bribes, etc. there is bound to be some laws that were broken for which he hasn’t been charged. Maybe tax evasion can be applied or illegal use of campaign contributions, whatever puts him in prison for many years.
