Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
Shortly after 7:00am this morning, a Deputy with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department who is assigned as the School Resource Officer at McLaurin Schools was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic.
The Deputy has since been released from an area hospital and is recovering at home.
Thank you to everyone who prayed and thought of him and his family this morning.
The MS Hwy Patrol is investigating the incident.

Another texting accident?
Seems obvious to me that was deliberate.
Hope he is ok. I live in this area, and the speeding on Star Road is out of control. I am constantly passed while driving the speed limit. Even Highway Patrol Officers pass me routinely. They have meetings on Monday or Tuesdays, at The law enforcement academy, and will pass you with complete disregard for the law and public safety. It’s happened to me many times.Need an unmarked vehicle officer on Star Road for a couple of weeks. You would be shocked at the number of tickets written, including the number of Highway Patrol officers who would be ticketed if enforcement doesn’t give them a pass on their speeding.
