Measles hit Spartanburg, South Carolina, hard. Reuters reported last month nearly 1,000 individuals got infected in Spartanburg County since October. The outbreak hit in places like the Global Academy of South Carolina where 21% of students had not been vaccinated, then spread to the unvaccinated at places like Costco, Publix, Goodwill, Burger King, the library, a museum, and the post office, reported the New York Times.
“This is not normal,” state epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell said. “This is unprecedented.”
“School immunization rates statewide have dropped by nearly three percentage points since prior to the pandemic in 2020,” Reuters reported, as leaders and parents pushed back against vaccine mandates and demanded more ‘medical freedom.’ The vaccination rate among kindergarteners last year dropped to 89%, below the 95% rate shown to spark herd immunity. Nationwide, the average fell for the fourth consecutive year to 92.5%. (So far Mississippi’s rate remains good at 97.5%.)
In 2025, 2,281 measles outbreaks hit 45 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the share of children exempted from vaccination rose to an all-time high.
Frighteningly, through just two months of 2026, the CDC has reported 1,136 cases in 28 states.
The declining trend of childhood vaccinations has caught the attention of those fighting a more heinous disease.
“After decades of American children routinely receiving polio vaccines, the virus that had doomed many to paralysis (look up “iron lungs”) was nearly eliminated,” reported CBS Sunday Morning. “But vaccine avoidance today may allow the crippling disease to return.”
“The virus still circulates in certain parts of the world. If that virus comes to the United States and we have a significant percentage of the population unvaccinated, polio is going to come back,” said David Oshinsky, author of Polio: An American Story. “It’s only a plane ride away.”
This fear was spurred in part when Dr. Kirk Milhoan, head of the CDC’s advisory committee for immunization practices, controversially suggested it might be time for the polio vaccine to become optional.
Rotary Clubs have been global leaders in the fight to eradicate polio, helping immunize over 2.5 billion children worldwide since 1988. So, it was no surprise for the North Jackson Rotary Club to focus on the issue last week.
“The fight against polio has been a core concern of Rotary,” said club administrator Don Roberts after playing the CBS documentary. Noting that many in attendance might not recall the horror of polio, he said much of the club’s Paul Harris Fellow donations to the Rotary Foundation over the years have been dedicated to the fight.
Could polio return? Well, the measles was declared eliminated in the U.S in 2000.

here is an interesting little tidbit. So they are blaming unvaccinated for this. However, the numbers appear to also include vaccinated people getting measles. So is this another Covid vaxx situation where the unvaccinated are being blamed for the vaxx not actually working? yes i know “but muh herd immunity is destroyed” so again, the vaxx doesnt really work?
Politics is the only " job" which doesn't require any proof of competence in either reading comprehension or math. If they are a high school or college graduate, we don't know whether they scraped by or if their school just let them "skate" through or if their school didn't give a lot of " extra credits".
If we elect braggarts who are all offer no proof of their claims, that's on us.
Wasn't it the Spaniards that introduced European diseases to the Central Americas & wiped out whole civilizations. And don't forget what took out the Martians when they landed on earth in War of the Worlds...
I have seen some anti-vaxxers posting on FB there were little to no polio deaths. All those deaths were another cause that was mislabeled.
Popularity contests
We would be an advanced space faring civilization if not for politicians.

Who you gonna call?
Who you gonna trust?
You worry too much
And yo head gonna bust!
Vaccines work. They aren't perfect, but what is? Vaccines save lives; antivaxxers cause people to die unnecessarily. If you were my age you'd remember thousands of kids in iron lungs, slowly dying from polio, until Saulk and Sabin saved lives with miraculous vaccines.
Here is the latest breakdown of measles cases in SC by vax status: 923 unvaccinated, 19 partially vaccinated with one of the recommended two-dose MMR sequence, 26 vaccinated with the two-dose MMR sequence, and 22 unknown. Even if you consider partial and unknown as vaccinated, that is still less than 7% of the total cases.
I doubt you remember 'thousands' as a very young child. Nor hundreds or even tens. Using @12:44's stats, "antivaxxers" are, by a very large margin, only causing other "antivaxxers" to die unnecessarily, not people in general. In fact, if "antivaxxers" are killing each other off, you should be pleased.
@12:44 You are talking about a time when vaccines weren’t a corrupt, government-mandated industry. You are talking about a time when vaccines were a massive social effort to save life’s and eliminate a threat. Today it is about pure profit and propaganda. And what is being sold is dangerous and clearly ineffective, if a vaxxed person can still get the disease that the vaxx is supposed to prevent.
I know several people who had polio as children before there was a vaccine. Most of them are disabled as a result. My younger sister was born in 1965 after our mother had Rubella when she was three months pregnant, and my sister was born profoundly deaf and has sequelae of in-utero Rubella exposure to this day. That was before there was Rubella vaccine. A neighborhood classmate of my brother was also a Rubella baby, born with a deformed heart as a result, and died in his early teens because there was nothing cardiologists could for him.
I guess it's going to take another epidemic of stillborn and deformed fetuses born to unvaccinated mothers who contract Rubella during pregnancy, and another epidemic of polio victims before our country once again realizes that vaccines save lives and quality of life.
Contracting polio doesn’t equal paralysis. Fun fact: the vast, vast majority of polio cases are asymptomatic. Of the symptomatic cases, the vast, vast majority are flu like symptoms. Very few cases lead to paralysis and of those cases, the vast, vast majority aren’t permanently paralyzed. Inform yourself instead of falling for fear based programming.
1:57, it’s time you stopped getting your news from some YouTuber recording in his parents’ basement. Covid vaccine did not prevent people from getting Covid, but it greatly reduced Covid mortality. I was no fan of Fauci’s bullshit clown show, but I knew I would be much better off vaccinated than not. Vaccines have saved hundreds of millions of lives, sport.
The childhood vaccines given to 165 million Americans aged 40 and under have cause an epidemic larger than is comprehensible. The autism, other isms, serious allergies, organ failure, SIDS, muteness and too many others have been attributed to these vaccines. The damage to people is not realized as no official can announce it, the populace would be livid as the dangers were known all along and hidden. Now we can see how society functions for the next 40 years as these people move through the system.
4:04, polio was a deadly, feared disease in the U.S. prior to the polio vaccine, with a mortality rate of about 5% plus many more paralysis cases, both temporary and permanent. It’s nothing to be taken as lightly as you think it is. Please use your critical thinking skills and don’t take a side on a scientific issue based on your ideology. Get your information on topics such as this from WHO or CDC, not Alex Jones.
@5:34 Alex, Tucker, Nick, Art, and Joe Rogan, are always right.
Delusional idiots have been given power and we are unwillingly included as participants in their delusions.
There always has been a market for goat gland penis treatments, radium water and all sorts of other unscientific woo crap to be sold to these fools.
Some of these fools believe in chemtrails, others believe the earth is flat. Oh, the moon landings were fake and covid didn't kill anyone.
Most of them are uneducated but think their world only works when they do their own 'research.'
Also on their agenda, more lies like: the germ theory is actually a lie, increased sanitation and hand washing kills, raw milk is safe.
Meanwhile, the depressed rational among us just get to eat the shit they spread. For example, on their proudly unwashed hands..
Effectiveness or not, the experimentation was inexcusable.
