The University of Mississippi Medical Center issued the following press release.
Beginning Feb. 17, the University of Mississippi Medical Center Division of Cardiology will offer its Healthy Heart Screenings at Colony Park North in Ridgeland.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Mississippi, accounting for nearly one-third of all deaths in the state and more than 8,000 deaths each year. Mississippi consistently reports one of the highest heart-disease mortality rates in the nation.
UMMC physicians say early detection is critical because cardiovascular disease often develops silently. Screening allows providers to identify risk factors and begin preventive care before symptoms occur.
Risk factors for cardiovascular disease include being over age 40, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, excess weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease.
For a self-pay cost of $100, patients receive a comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation including a CT calcium score, electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs assessment, lipid panel and HbA1c testing.
Healthy Heart Screenings will be offered Tuesdays and Fridays. A referral is not required, though providers may place an order if preferred.
Patients can schedule an appointment by calling 601-815-4321. More information is available online here.

Best $100 I ever spent (although I did it at St. D when they were running a special. If you have heart disease in your gene pool, GET THE CALCIUM SCORE.
KF, why do you always call it UMC when it's clearly UMMC?
Did same years ago at Baptist for $100. Probably saved my life.
it is still $100 at St.D. Not a special. Just the everyday price.
