Bar Suspends Abby Robinson

The Mississippi Bar suspended controversial attorney Abby Robinson from the practice of law for two years on December 30 after receiving multiple complaints from judges and lawyers alike.

The Bar filed a complaint against Ms. Robinson in July 2025. As part of discovery, the Bar submitted a request for interrogatories and documents.  Although her response was due on September 19, Ms. Robinson merely filed a response that was notice of an intent to sue and a motion to dismiss immediately.  In other words, the lawyer did not comply with the Bar's requests.  The Bar again sent her a request for the discovery responses.  Ms. Robinson again failed to respond to the Bar's demands.

A Bar Complaint Tribunal entered a default judgment against Abby Robinson after she ignored the Bar.  The Tribunal made several findings in the case:

* U.S. District Judge Gargiulo held a telephonic discovery hearing in July 2020.  Ms. Robinson informed the Court she was recording the hearing.  When the conference was not going her way, the attorney "threatened to end the conference."

Ms. Robinson filed a motion for Judge Gargiulo to recuse himself, alleging he was "unprofessional" during the teleconference and "improperly influenced."  She provided no evidence the judge was improperly influenced.  The motion accused the Court of embarrassing Ms. Robinson.  The motion was not short on histrionics:

Plaintiff’s counsel saw no need in allowing the court to literally imply that Plaintiff’s counsel was incompetent to handle Plaintiff’s case. At one point Plaintiff’s counsel said to the judge, “Your honor, short of holding a gun to my Plaintiffs head, what else can I do to make them obey your order.” Immediately the ridicule heighten, the judge says, “no gun,” Plaintiff’s counsel said that was metaphor your honor.

The Court rejected the motion.

* Ms. Robinson represented the infamous William "Polo" Edwards, a convicted killer, and sued  Jackson Pastor Danny Hollins  after the Pastor filed criminal charges against Mr. Edwards.  Earlier post.  The order states:

Ms. Robinson telephoned the pastor and stated that she would destroy, annihilate, and embarrass the pastor and the church at which he served.

Ms. Robinson stated during her telephone call with the pastor that she would file a lawsuit against him if he did not drop the criminal charges against Mr. Edwards.

The attorney subsequently filed two lawsuits against Pastor Hollins in January 2020.  Although the lawsuits were dismissed, they generated an investigation by the Bar.  Ms. Robinson did not appear at an investigatory hearing.

*  The Tribunal cited Ms. Robinson's misconduct in Shope v. Newsouth Nuerospine et al.  Daniel Shope sued the defendants for medical malpractice in Rankin County even though the statute of limitations tolled. Ms. Robinson represented the plaintiff.  Ms. Robinson

threatened the doctor, through statements made to his attorney, with financial and reputational ruin unless he settled her client's claim.

The lawsuit was dismissed because the lawyer did not provide the defendants with the required notice of intent to sue. Ms. Robinson filed a second lawsuit in November 2028 in Rankin County Court.  The Court dismissed the lawsuit since since the statute of limitations had run. Shope appealed to Circuit Court but Judge Dewey Arthur said Ms. Robinson did not pay the required fees within the deadline of thirty days and dismissed the appeal. However, Judge Kent McDaniel was not through with the case.

Judge McDaniel found damages for "initiating and conducting litigation with no hope of success."  The Court entered a judgment of $150,000 against the attorney filing and conducting litigation "with no hope of success."  Ms. Robinson was deemed to have filed phony pleadings and affidavits.

Undeterred, Ms. Robinson appealed to the Mississippi Supreme Court, arguing Judge McDaniel was engaged in a conspiracy against her.

JJ reported in November 2020 Ms. Robinson filed a complaint against Judge McDaniel with the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance.   Judge McDaniel reported Ms. Robinson to the Bar in 2020. (Readers should read the earlier post.)

* A client loaned Ms Robinson $27,000 during her representation of his interests.  The loan terms were not made in writing nor did Ms. Robinson counsel her client to get another lawyer.  She only repaid $20,700.

Ms. Robinson continued to blow off the Bar.  The Tribunal stated:

The record presented to the Tribunal and the presentations of the parties confirm that, over an unfortunately extended period of several years, Ms. Robinson has engaged· not only in numerous violations of the Mississippi Rules of Professional Conduct but has also demonstrated a complete disregard of Bar disciplmary procedure. She has completely failed to respond to discovery requests, provided improper responses that included threats to sue various Bar employees, demanded hearings through email without filing proper· motions, and exhibited a pattern of non cooperation with the disciplinary process. Despite her improper conduct and threats, the record reflects that the Bar has exhibited restraint in pursuing disciplinary action against her. The Tribunal finds the Bar would certainly have been justified in moving more quickly to seek her suspension.

Such actions carry a price and the Complaint Tribunal ensured Ms. Robinson will indeed pay a heavy price, suspending her for two years.  Ms. Robinson must notify her clients and Hinds County courts of her suspension.  The suspended attorney must submit an affidavit to the Mississippi Supreme Court that she notified all clients of said suspension and returned their files within 30 days of the order.

DeSoto County Senior Circuit Judge Celeste Wilson presided over the tribunal.  Attorneys Robert Quimby (Mitchell, McNutt, & Sams) and Charles Winfield served on the tribunal.

Ms. Robinson sued the Bar and its lawyers in federal court on December 2 as she accused the defendants of "domestic terrorism."  Earlier post.

Great recap, Kingfish. i remember this from Polo's trial. Her license should have been revoked, not suspended.

And accusing Judge Garigulo as "unprofessional"....what a fool.

She be entitled.

racial animus is strong in this one-

Excellent history on this situation. This was a long time coming. Fortunately, it seems the Bar is being more proactive in addressing problem attorneys in the last year or so.

Law schools and the Bar Admissions process simply determine whether an individual has learned the letter of the law and legal procedure. Like any profession, it is possible that a person who is otherwise mentally unhinged can become a lawyer. Most often we find them becoming politicians, that's natural.

Wow. Judge McDaniel basically asked the Bar to investigate whether she even graduated from law school, since she appears incapable of doing so.

I’ve known Kent since 1993. It takes a great deal to get him riled up. He’s a prince of a man and a superb jurist. This lady needs to be required to report her actions while suspended

Is this the same lady that ran for supreme court last year

Anonymous said...

Wow. What law school is credited with giving her a skin?

The Board of Bar Admissions has a Character and Fitness Committee that is supposed to have a thorough background investigation completed. The Committee is very strict in who it passes on character and fitness. My guess is that she lied on her application to the Board of Bar Admissions.

Yes

I'm sure that someone with her qualifications would have no trouble finding a top-flight job in either the food service or housekeeping industries.

What a shame that this clown has practiced more law than our state's Attorney General.

Jane said...

All of her filings are complete nonsense. This is long past due.

Jane said...

She can't write a single sentence that makes any sense. It's appalling. How does someone like this graduate from any school? Start with elementary.

Jane said...

I don't think she automatically gets readmitted but I could be wrong. She needs to learn English first.

Based on previous actions by this "attorney," this suspension is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overdue!

Anonymous said...

She is using the wrong AI app.

It appears she graduated from Southern University Law School. She also claims to own a construction company, so she can pound nails for a few years.

Yet more proof that a ham sandwich can get a law degree and all attorneys are over paid

Is anyone else still wondering if there is some reason to use the name "New England" on a business located in Mississippi?

Anonymous said...

New England Contractors probably works better in Mississippi than Yankee Contractors.

Anonymous said...

Dude, when Jane says your filings are nonsense …

She’ll just become a professor at JSU teaching law. That’s usually how they do it? Should we be waiting for a lawsuit in 2028🧐

Anonymous said...

@8:51

JSU doesn't have a law school

Anonymous said...

I thought JSU was getting some new degree where you could undergrad and a JD at an accelerated pace.

I'll return to commenting anonymously.

As sad as this truly is, it's very entertaining, too. Any update on Bridget Todd?

Kingfish said...

No but the current bar counsel who has been in office for only a year seems to be more aggressive than predecessors.

The murderer was online from his jail cell talking about how Abby was helping him with his appeal and how she assisted him with legal counsel for his murder trial. When I saw she aligned herself with the likes of that murderer I knew she was no good. So good riddance to Abby

As an attorney who has dealt with her, I can certify: she is absolutely nuts.

They still teach law classes. Business Law, some criminal justice classes. They will just pay her as an adjunct professor.

Everybody tied to Polo has gone down. Come on Pastor Pickett 👀

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
